A cob is a crusty cob / roll where I'm from, it's rather funny when I have to run through a load of different things until I hit the one my OH knows it as.

The history thing between English / Scottish isn't strictly speaking resentment from hundreds of years ago and butchering the people / physical fights between the two countries and everything else, but the politics of a certain female PM.

The Brexit / independence thing is because the PMs barely see anywhere aside from London, let alone the rest of England. Scotland doesn't stand a chance of having the right thing done for their country if it's not being done for the whole of England.

It's political and I broke my one rule of never discussing politics to ask about the old history (my OH thanks AskAsk for the resulting laugh when I asked him about it), I also asked where any issues potentially stem from and that's where MT, the former PM came into it.

Perhaps I should send out a group message to my friends up here and ask them the same questions, to get the opinion of more than one person.

I also hear my boyfriend talk about down south and loads of people have mentioned it, Does the north not like the south?
I'm generalising hugely but the North/South divide is a bit like the Rust Belt in the US compared with  other, wealthier parts of the country. The North (well everywhere but the South East really) has suffered from the loss of heavy industry and little being put in it's place since so people in the North feel (justifiably in my opinion) that they've been ignored and left behind. Manchester has done its best to reinvent itself as a destination city for entertainment, shopping, conferences and universities but it's not easy. The government is trying to level things up (allegedly).
I think my explanation, a couple of days ago, of the North/South divide matches your opinion quite closely moving forward. 😊

Loads of rubbish here. It’s a well known fact that us Londoners are lovely and deeply misunderstood by the yokels up north, who are jealous of our exorbitant house prices and speak funny.  And of course the north starts at Watford, not Watford Gap. 😀😇

Where I'm from a baguette is long, probably 6-8" maybe - not good with sizing, but crusty not soft
That's my understanding of a baguette too  🥖
Like a French stick, but smaller. The soft ones don't work as well with bacon, eggs and brown sauce.

I'm originally from the West Midlands, but have lived down on the south coast for nearly 40 years (Oh my!). Where I grew up, bread rolls were long and cylindrical (like Swiss roll shape), soft or crusty. Cobs were flat, circular and crusty; baps were flat, round and soft/floury. I'd never heard of a baguette.

Down here, on the beautiful south coast, rolls can be flat or cylindrical (my OH calls the cylindrical type 'finger rolls') ;baguettes are larger, crusty and tapered at each end.
    It's not difficult!
