  • Hi
Just read your diary and feel so sad for you.  Sending hugs.  Do you have a close friend you could talk to?  Hope the water is an easy fix. X
Thanks SuperSavingD.  I have friends I could talk to but not sure if I will just yet, too many connections with OH so I need to choose carefully.  Here's hoping to an easy water fix too x

  • So, insurance told me to get a local plumber out to fix the burst pipe.  Insurance will cover any damage caused by the leak and anything that gets damaged to get to the leak.  Well that'll be the kitchen unit and plasterboard for starters seeing as the pipe is being there.   Plumber coming round this afternoon.  Cup of tea gone cold, was tempted to put it back in the kettle to reboil but necked it back cold instead!
OH come home from work early as he felt bad leaving me to deal with leak on top of everything else.  He's handed his notice in, has told them everything he told me.  He's happy to have got it off his chest and I suspect they'll be supportive, time will tell.   Will go get water supplies later depending on what the plumber can do today.   We have some big water butts full at the allotment that OH is suggesting we empty into smaller contains at least for the toilet flushing.  That could get a bit messy so may go for the more expensive, but less messy bottled water option.
Plumber here now, he's just knocking through the kitchen wall, thinks we might have to have the kitchen units taken out......

  • Whilst the cupboard is out see if someone can cut a hole through the backboard so if it ever happens again (fingers crossed it doesn’t) you have easy access, that’s what we did when we fitted ours, just an idea.

Hope you get that fresh brew soon.

  • Plumber no.2 been and gone, leak has been isolated and we have running water yippee, just a couple of gaping holes at the back of the base unit and above the top unit.  Getting to the pipe to fix it will be a bit trickier as the kitchen units, tiles and maybe cooker will need to come out.  Not sure if this will be BG or home insurance but pretty sure it's covered somewhere, I'm in touch with both.
Any other time this would be a massive pain in the rear which I'd hate sorting out, but strangely it's giving me a welcome distraction from bigger things going on in the house.

I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

  • I’m finding the situation at home difficult.  OH is up and down and me trying to help makes things worse.  Tried talking, being nice, staying positive, giving him space.   He hasn’t phoned the doctors and snapped when I mentioned it.   I’m not sure what else I can do so I’ve given up and will just focus on what I need to do.  If he wants to go now, he can go.  If he wants to drag it out until the new year his behaviour has to improve.  If he can’t control his behaviour and won’t speak to a doctor then his family or his new best friend can take him in.   I’m done.

I need to work out my monthly budget excluding his contribution.  My back of fag packet calculations tell me that I should just be about able to manage but it will be tight.  I’ll do it properly on my budget spreadsheet.  Positive news is that I should be getting a bonus from work this month.  I had planned to use it to pay down a chunk of nasty CC2 and have some for Christmas.  What I think I’ll do instead is tuck it away somewhere and it should give me 2-3 months breathing space.

I also need to make some space for myself where I can just shut the door and not risk upsetting grumpy by breathing.  Off work next week so going to concentrate on clearing/painting/moving furniture around in the kids former bedrooms.  Will move youngest stuff into biggest room for when she is back from uni and I’ll have her old room as my space to work and chill in.

Leaky pipe saga continues but is getting sorted.  Plumber 3 came yesterday, acknowledged his colleague (Plumber 1) had got it wrong, it is a central heating pipe that burst after all not a water supply pipe so I am covered by their policy.  He will come back on Friday with Plumber 4 to knock through the kitchen wall tiles to see if they can get to it that way.  If not, the kitchen units will have to come out and it will have to go through my home insurance.   Will have to turn the electrics off when they comes so will probably work upstairs until my laptop battery runs out.  Need to empty the kitchen cupboards and think about if the fridge/freezer will be OK turned off for a few hours.

So my new To Do list is
Email insurance with update and photos
    Empty kitchen cupboards
    Sort Bedrooms
Revise budget based on single income
    Eat, sleep and breath (quietly)

  • Your OH sounds like mine. He walked out in March. He had to come back because of lockdown. He now carries all this guilt around and he doesn't think he'll get passed it. He's always depressed and can't see the positive in anything. He thinks us separating will be better for me because I wouldn't be burdened by him. I also feel like I've tried everything. If he did leave, god knows what'd happen financially. It's so difficult so I hope you're ok.

You seem to be coping remarkably well considering all your difficulties. Good on you for doing your best to support your partner.  I’m sure this virus and the associated lockdown has put huge strain on lots of relationships.
Thoughts with you as well @vixx_123
Now is just a point in time and I know many who have gone through real relationship difficulties but are now much happier.
By the way, if you have 5 seconds to spare, then I’ll tell you the story of my life  ;)
There’s of course a world of lyrics by the man who knows. Like you I’ve gone off him as a person but he certainly seems to get what it’s lack to feel angst and unhappiness which is kind of comforting.
Keep going. Will watch your story with interest.
