It has been really slippy here on the roads  and pavements.  Good luck with work.

     Whoops!
Buffy, Juicy. Savingholmes and Enthusiastic - you were all hiding on the next page and I didn't see your posts until my last one was posted.
Thank you all for your comments - its great to think that somebody is actually reading my wittering on and endless lists!
  • How much £ do you need to afford your lifestyle change and how much will you release by selling your house / other means?
I've had a look at the most recent house prices for those that have just gone on sale or been sold on the estate that I live on and after my mortgage of about 50K has been paid off and I buy a 2 bed house in Wales as a cash buyer with no mortgage there will be at least 50K left over. I also have some savings that will be partly used to finance the move (conveyancing, moving costs etc).
That's enough to allow me to have a month or two off to settle in and start building a small business, whilst supplementing my income with some part time supply work.
With no mortgage I've estimated my monthly outgoings (household, car etc) as no more than £900. If I can get rid of my car (its still on a contract for the next year) and downsize it that will significantly reduce. It's the only thing I'll really miss - I do love my car and its completely affordable now but would be a luxury then. Needs must though.....
So, its all doable but will take some adjustment
Just a thought regards car leasing, if you set up your business and it is registered for vat you would then qualify for a business lease I think if you lease through the business , I thing you get 50% of the vat for the lease of the car and 100% of the vat reclaimable for any maintenance plan. As I say I'm not an expert just relaying what one of my friends who had his own business told me when he got his new car, he got a LOT of good advice via his accountants. So you may be able to run a similar vehicle but for a decent saving to what you pay now. Savings are not massive but about £40 a month on a £200 lease for an SUV
