Which Credit Card for Good Customer Service?

I have had a Lloyds credit card for years.  I chose them initially to collect Avois/Airmiles but they aren't as valuable as they used to be.  I'm a "pay off my balance every month" person and use my Card for convenience/shopping/international travel (under normal circumstances).
I had a dodgy transaction a couple of days ago and they have cancelled my card.  The call was painful - their IVR is terrible and I got passed round people.
I've just called them back because online banking won't let me log in.  I've just had a very aggressive sounding person tell me it is as a result of my card being cancelled which just sounds ridiculous to me.  If I wait until the new card is allocated and arrives I will then be able to access my account again.

I'm so annoyed I want to change provider, but are they all like this these days??    I see lots of articles about interest rates and T&C's but what credit card providers are highly rated for their customer service??

Amex are generally considered at the higher end, though I've never had a problem with any provider.

Amex appear to be very good. At the opposite end of the scale I would avoid Barclaycard. Always have problems every time I need to contact them and their online systems and app go ridiculously over the top on security and then difficult to get the account reset and contradictory information on website. For example their secure chat via Apple devices does not work from a WiFi only iPad as needs to check the phone number on your sim matches the one registered to your Barclaycard account but this is not mentioned on the website at all and it was only after my third unsuccessful attempt to use this function that their representative bothered to mention this to me.

Where as I've not had a problem with Barclaycard, with each provider there is going to be a certain number of people who experience problems and lots that don't.

Just because you don't like Barclaycard doesn't mean others should avoid it!!

Amex are very good like others have pointed out you should if possible have one credit card from Visa, One from Amex and one from Mastercard.  This means you then have a card that you can use should one of the merchant services have an outage or when somewhere that doesn't Amex.
Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.

AmEx are certainly at the higher end, particularly if you take fee charging card with them, and things like replacement cards being with you within 2 working days of reporting an issue.

I've only had one problem with Barclaycard in relation to a chargeback where I had to refer the agent to their own website when he said a chargeback wasnt possible.

Virgin Atlantic I got as a backup card to AmEx but their app, website and service are terrible and the airline increasingly is focusing on flights we are less interested in. Capital One we've had some pain caused by them not distinguishing between cardholders so singular 3D secure and when one card was lost all had to be cancelled.

Going by recent posts on here and my own experience, avoid newcomer Jaja like the plague.
Mind you, their staff are very polite - they never answer-back (nor answer the phone for that matter)!
Having very recently been forcibly been transferred from the Post Office Credit Card to Jaja Credit Card, I am already an ex-Jaja customer. They are that bad - seriously.
Customer Service - in Jaja talk that mean no customer service!

In my opinion Amex has the best level of service. Also Barclaycard was great pre Covid-19.

I've only had my Amazon Mastercard a few days, but had a very good experience when I phoned the provider (NewDay). The lady with whom I spoke was both knowledgeable and helpful.

As others have said, AmEx are good. The problem, of course, is that their cards aren't universally accepted (though I've never found it to be a big problem - I'm able to put 95% or so of my spending on an AmEx card).

MBNA have been decent enough in my experience. Of course, they're now part of Lloyds, so you might feel negatively about them for that reason.

At the other end, I've found John Lewis (Partnership Card) pretty awful, and consistently so over several years. It was their lousy customer service that prompted me to drop them last year. I've also found HSBC to be pretty dire. (Oddly, though, First Direct is vastly better.)
  • Amex are head and shoulders above all the others.
  • For a non-Amex card I would go for First Direct.
