If this is anything to go by:
then that 534B cable might be for a satellite, which would imply the box is a splitter/distributor, which is a requirement for that as you can't split a satellite signal by just separating the cables from the dish.
  • Hi,
what's under the black tape, F connectors?

It looks like an outdoor splitter. The grey plastic is to keep the splitter dry. I'd suspect the piece where the cables enter slides out.
Check the "bad" wall plate fitting, it might be a loose connection between the cable and plate or loose wiring behind. Also check the connectors on the lead you are using.
  • Nothing to do with satellite but the satellite cable used is much better quality than standard co-ax.
There is nothing to see inside the plastic box other than a metal box.
You are wasting your time until you connect a power supply e.g.

The power supply is normally fitted behind the main TV and send 12V up the co-ax to the masthead amplifier which then feeds the two amplified outlets from the aerial.

It's a masthead something or other that has been used in the loft.
The front cover slides up and off (it will click into place when slid back down so be stiff to release initially).
THEN and only then can we say what is inside the box.
(It's an older style, the modern ones hinge open).
It may be a passive splitter or an amplified splitter with remote power requirements (fed up one of the aerial coax cables).

As suggested the power supply for amplified splitters (aka distribution amplifiers) is possibly missing and they are often packed up / picked up by removal men being 'helpful'...
Check if any TVs or PVRs you own have a feature in the tuning setup menus for 'antenna power' and try switching that on when connected to one of the outlets?

I'd put money on it being an older model of this:

Do amplified splitters work without power?
