    Toyota also do a price promise;

    "We’ll also make you a promise: if you can find a lower price for a service using genuine parts, we'll match any like-for-like written or e-mailed quotation within a 10-mile radius of your local Toyota dealer."

    I joined the scheme just prior to my car's 5th anniversary then decided to use an independent for servicing. Car had been  Toyota serviced until then.
    The "Club" replaced their previous fixed price scheme which was cheaper and included more, depending on which service. e.g. brake fluid change, pollen filter change. these were previously included, not now. Make sure you know what is included before jumping for joy at the changes!
    Toyota were very cagey about what was or was not included (at the price) when I asked them.
    20% "off" the full price is still expensive for a main dealer stamp.
    More than happy with my local, recommended locally, independent. No coffee and biscuits though.

    I'd pay more for a local independent to work on my car once the car is out of warranty because I trust they know what they are doing with the car which I certainly don't with the main dealer.  The last time the car was at a main dealer while under warranty they charged me £40 to tell me they didn't know what was causing either problem with the car and wanted an ridiculous amount of money to proceed with dismantling part of the car to investigate further or replace a significant part of it.  I took the car to the usual independent I use who diagnosed and fixed both issues in one go for a fraction of the price I was quoted.  I wonder at times how a main dealer can be so useless with repairs but then I guess all the banners and cars advertising brand new lease offers is my answer.
  • If you have a hybrid don't forget to factor in the cost of the hybrid check to keep the battery warranty.

    The 5+ Club has not replaced fixed price servicing.  Toyota still provide fixed price servicing.  The 5+ Club gives you a 20pc discount on their fixed prices.  Presumably they are doing this to retain customers who would otherwise use an independent garage once the car is out of warranty.

    I had a full service yesterday.  There were no extra charges.

    I was incorrect in that! Should have written that it replaced the reduced fixed price for older Toyotas. Ooops. My 5th(interim) service was at that reduced fixed price
    Did they change the pollen filter and brake fluid as part of the full service?
    That is what I couldn't get out of Toyota when asked.
    They didn't retain this customer because a 20% redution of an overinflated price is still overinflated and more than that it replaced.

    I wasn't aware of any previous reduction for older vehicles; that's why I posted this.  I've been getting my Yaris serviced at the main dealership since I bough it new 12 years ago, and paying full price until now (although I was on a service plan most years, which gave a discount anyway).

    Personally, I don't know enough about cars to know whether an independent garage is good or bad.  I know there are some excellent independents out there; I know there are also a lot of cowboys who do work that isn't necessary and charge for work that they don't actually do!

    I've always been very happy with my Toyota dealership - I feel they have always gone the extra mile.  When my car was less than two years old, it was smoke damaged from a fire in an adjacent garage.  My dealership checked it over and cleaned the engine - no charge.  A couple of years ago my car was making a strange rattling noise when starting up on cold mornings.  I took it in to the dealership.  They kept it for 36 hours to check it cold, but couldn't find anything wrong.  They provided me with a courtesy car - no charge.  Until this year, they would collect the car from home when it was due for a service.  They still provide a free courtesy car.  There pay be cheaper options, but I trust the dealership and am happy to pay a little more.

    They certainly changed the brake fluid when they serviced the car this week.  I don't know if they changed the pollen filter or not.  They inspected it.  I don't think I've ever been charged for a replacement pollen filter, so I presume they replace it if necessary at no extra charge.  The only thing they have ever charged extra for (apart from tyres and lamps obviously) was re-gassing the AC.  They also advised me to run the AC year round to prevent the seals drying out, as this was more economical in the long run.

    Re what is included, if you book on line it tells you;
