Toyota 5+ Club - discounted servicing for old Toyotas!
Comments
-
We've had a number of Toyotas always serviced at the dealer (Monty's of Sheffield now Burrows) and they are always able to go the extra mile. Service is always around what I can get it done at an independent.
To be fair I'm not sure I'd be happy at an Arnold Clerk or Evans Halshaw franchise0 -
(Just to clarify, Arnold Clark don't take part in the 5+ Club.)0

They always make me laugh these deals where it is cheaper to service an older car than it is a new one. On a brand new car they will miss loads of service items just because it is new. Do you really think they will take the wheels off a 1 year old car with 5000 miles on the clock to check the brake pads? So it's much less hassle servicing a brand new car than an older one but they charge more! I went to 2 main dealers recently looking for a part that no-one could get. It dawned on me how irrelevant main dealers have become to me. I have a 5 year old car that I got from a broker. So we drove a long distance to pick it up. Presumably very low margin. It's never been near a main dealer since. All parts bought from eurocarparts. Dealers obviously trying hard to remain relevant.0

"As a matter of interest, what car do you have, and how much do you pay for a full service? "A 2014 Toyota Yaris, 1.33l Icon+ (with the optional rear brakes). Looks like they no longer include changing the pollen filter (inspect) or the brake fluid which used to be included, even in the reduced price service for older Toyotas.I think they want about £40 to change a £10 pollen filter which takes maximum 10 minutes to complete!Without digging out the invoice, I think it was about £180 for full service and M.O.T. with the independent. £179.32, I checked.0

As somebody with an 05 Prius with only about 46,000 miles on the clock, this thread is of special interest to me. It's my old company car which I bought 12 years ago. My wife loves it and wouldn't dream of replacing it.
We have always used independent garages for service since out of warranty. I'm feeling this could be the right time for a 'proper' service. They want £340 for a 100,000 mile/10 year service and £54.85 for the MOT, presumably discounted prices. This is more than I would normally think of spending. Should I jump in? Thanks.

Dealer: Sorry you have a problem, sir, you have been keeping its serviced to schedule at a VAT registered garage using original parts haven't you?
Fred: Ummm, errrr, no I have been watching youtube videos and getting pattern parts from the cheapest motor factors I can find.
The response from the dealer is the one given by the car hire attendant gives the Steve Martin character in Planes, Trains and Automobiles0 -

You don't automatically get the 20% discount, you have to sign up for it. The discount applies to the MOT as well as the service1 -

And I've never been charged for a replacement pollen filter.0 -
Of course they changed the brake fluid. You have absolutely no idea whether they have or not. Can't prove anything so they will have. Probably never been charged for a pollen filter because you have never had it changed. Love the idea that main dealers would do a 'proper' service. Main dealers are just garages who have made an agreement with manufacturers. Build a fancy showroom so you can charge inflated servicing prices. In independent tests main dealers are as lousy as independents.0
