    Or maybe the alarm company are living in the past or just haven't got themselves organised in time. They would have been well aware of these changes and should have been preparing their products. 
    One works during a power cut - the other doesn't

    My ONT box works through a power cut via the backup battery .

    Openreach no longer install ONTs with battery back-ups.
    Powercuts tend to all into two categories, brief outages that last from a few seconds to 15 minutes or so, or long powercuts measured in hours, the longest recent one was 6 hours
     With the longer power cuts, the mobile phone networks in the area start disappearing after 45 minutes to an hour, with the only way to get help if needed being via a wired phone

    I remember the good ole daze, when the national telephone network was owned/controlled by the Home Office and BT was a 'licensee'.
    So will the red telephone boxes disappear?

    The red telephone boxes would have disappeared if BT had had their way.
