I went today to see The Diving Bell and The Butterfly, an arthouse type of film of which I am not at all into, but nevertheless I was attracted by the title so, down I sat for a film that if it is not given at least ONE Oscar, and I'm being mean, I will never pay any attention to the Awards ever again( not that it makes much difference to me what the awards do ). The film is risky, courageous and beautiful to the full extent of the word, the acting superb, hence everyone in tears.
I tried over and over to imitate the face of the actor and I miserably failed...After an attack of some sort he ends up totally paralised with a terrible grimace on his face, the rest you will have to revisit by yourselves. Be warn it will make you cry unless you are ....
I just arrived home and my friend left a message she cannot come with me to Juno the 31 Jan@5.50 pm (to be sure we get in without any problems) at the Vue Leicester Sq. . So if anyone would like to share this ticket you are most welcome but let me know soon.

I saw The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, too, and thought it was stunning. I knew what to expect, as I read - and really 'liked' - the book a few years ago. It was true to the book, and yet the film was great in its own way too.

A good measure of a film is the speed people leave - and most sat to read the credits (glad I did French at school - some things were of interest). And there was real empathy when you looked at anyone else on the way out.

I really, really recommend this film, but... it is sad and painful, but it has joy and humour in places too. Check out what it is about before going ( it is about a very successful man, who is paralysed after a stroke). I know many people who have faced such circumstances, and who would find this harrowing. And it is also subtitled - but good practice for those who have studied (or are studying) French.

Marialionza - totally agree. This MUST win Oscars. The book is fabulous, but the scriptwriter, actors, director, etc. did wonders turning this into a film.
