greenbee, you should be called busybee
You sound very organised, on a par with AR.
twopenny, the germolene is in a tube and it's white cream, not pink. I remember the pink stuff in little tins. I can't remember where I got the tube from, but it was probably Home Bargains.'A watched potato will never chit'...6 -
I've just got some. Disappointing because the tin seemed more comforting :)But I'm sure it's more hygenic in the tube. Thank you for reminding me.In case people don't visit the charity shop thread I got this the other dayThe plant of course 'just appeared'

Thanks for the manure reminder, i forget about that all the time. My mother and father used to take a buvket and shovel with them on walks sometimes, to collect it for their roses.2p, i did lagh at that, I've made so many horrible things trying out my own magic touch, hedgerow jam is one of them, yuk.Agree about the worms, they just turn up in the end, build it and they'll come kinda thingMy hedgerow jam turned out nice, but I guess a different recipe.Mine was mainly berry fruits, currants, windfall apples and the like, possibly an offence under Trade Description as not strictly hedge row produce. No rose hips, elders, haws, or rowans etc in mine, so perhaps mixed fruit would've been more correct?OT, Germalene, just been down a rabbit hole, seems the pink stuff was withdrawn in 2014, not banned, just not available but may be obtained on prescription it seems, or OOD, for historial research only, on e bayThe pink stuff was oil based, white is water based and shouldn't stain clothesEven more OT, for real old 'uns, did anyone's mum apply a washing blue, AKA dolly blue to cuts & grazes? We were real rainbow kids back then, blue grazes, purple painted spots, plus yellow iodine patchesGardener’s pest is chef’s escargot5

Mine had haws. Do not recommend, no stars. I think that was inspired by HFW which is why I now take a mental pinch of salt. I dont have to eat everything...PP, hope your blister wound scabs quickly and doesn't keep breaking. Co-incedentally, I have some Germolene in the cupboard but I remember the smell of the pink one better...Did not dig grass.Did go to the gardne centre on the way back from giving someone some pots, may have succumbed to a few plants...and some seeds...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi6

I love that cup and saucer, twopenny. Is it for show or to use?? Pretty plant too.
I didn’t know pink germolene was oil based - I probably shouldn’t have plastered it all over my face when I was a teenager 😳
taff - ‘fess up... what plants and seeds did you succumb to?? I went looking for leek seeds when I was on holiday and it was the only packet out of stock. I’ve got loads of toilet roll inners ready and waiting as well 😂
Talking of rhubarb - my parent plant doesn’t look very healthy at all. I would say two thirds of the leaves look like this...
I couldn’t get over to my new rhubarb patch planted out last year as I didn’t have any shoes on, but I could just see possibly one leaf looking the same. Are my future rhubarb crumbles doomed?? 😕'A watched potato will never chit'...6 -
The giant cup has a hole in the bottom so it's a planter :-)
Love my tea so it will sit in the garden. An injured teapot will hang for a robins nest.
Seems like Alice in wonderland
That leaf looks like leaf miner. Which is odd because it's supposed to be poisonous and used as an insecticide.
I think slugs are immune.
Should be ok, it's vulnerable if newly planted - but I'd pull the stalk and eat it. Get rid of the leaves.
The experts will be along tomorrow :-)

PP, I have no idea sorry, I thought rhubarb was pretty bombproof. In answer to your question, I got a couple of erigeron because I know I can divide them if they live, an eryngium because the slugs seem to love the one I had before, some echinacea, basil and tagetes seeds. I have sown some echinacea already but I'm not hopeful of it's chances. I had levingtons with john innes compost this year, and nothing seems to be sprouting particularly well in it.2p, rhubarb and vanilla jam [ with added apple] is lovely, just like rhubarb and custard, probably better for tarts or something though...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi6

Can rhubarb get rust (aka could it be fungal caused by damp/poor air flow)? I'd be tempted to cut out the worst leaves so the air and light can get down to the plant and see if that fixes it. Assuming of course the plant does have more healthy/healthier looking shoots.
Talking rhubarb - my nan used to make rhubarb and strawberry (jam and just stewed fruit). It was the only way I'd eat the stuff as a kid.
I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.7 -
Don’t cut rhubarb leaves! Pull/twist the stems gently so they detach at the base. Cutting leaves the plant susceptible to germs… it could be a fungus.4
