The met office has it's own ideas that it's been warm. I'd like to disagree.

I've sunbathed in Feb before now. How is 5c warm?
The oddest thing about that report (which was repeated on the Today prog) was the claim that lack of frosts harm apple trees (for example) - while the small print in the report just says that they need low temperatures - between zero and 6 degrees... Maybe I'm nitpicking (known for it!) but surely there is a significant difference between zero and a temperature just above, as most gardeners (with tender plants!) would have spotted?.. Still on topic - we have had snow! as forecast (for the first time this winter) - though not continuously from 3 in the morning until later tonight as drunkards suggested - just a few flurries which were quickly washed away by wetter precipitation - laying on nearby hilltops though...

Imp I'm with you on that. Think it's got too mechanised and averages. Obviously the gardening comes from Wiki without reading what they've written.
Wort, lovely colour of that iris. I've got some crocus dark purple. I'm moving them under the blossom tree with dark crimson leaves.
The muscari - wonder if you'll call them delicate when they've run rampant in your plot
Saying that I love them.
Continues heavy, freezing rain. Temp 5 still. At least it's not snow!I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Maybe it was a wasp queen, Dusty. My first thought was that it was a wasp rather than a bee.
Lovely pics, wort. We used to always call Muscari 'Nana Muscari' - you probably have to be over a certain age to understand that...'A watched potato will never chit'...7 -

oo crocus what a lovely combination, I’d like to see that.
Can hear the birds singing outside this morning very loud and it’s still dark, not long till clocks change now .Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.3 -
Funny you saying about hens Dusty. I was talking to my cousin last night about the farm as it was cos she found an old picture and emailed it to me. One thing she remembers is how pleased I was when I finally cracked how to carry a pair of hens. I won't share the pic cos I'm not sure if it'd be identifiable/find-able (learning from you having your pic removed) and I've already been told off this morning and had a post removed
That's a really lovely iris wort. Also, I like your pots
Yep I have seen Castaway Farway, not a bad film. I don't think any of the islands I looked at came with a Tom Hanks or a Wilson but I don't know how much you can expect for £30k
I can't remember what I was watching last night but it had something about the frost and apple trees and the differences in fruiting if it comes too early. I was mentally sorting out where my carrier bags are and if I need to sling the big ones over my trees....
It did rain here yesterday, but it didn't persist it down like they all promised. By the time I got back home (about 5pm ish) there'd been hailstones and snowOnly rain in Posh Friend's town but not a while lot of it and not particularly cold either tbh. Shows what they know. There may, or may not, be rain on and off today, possibly. It's 2' out there now, high of 6', they say. I'll have a tootle about the garden later and see if there's anything left see what's occurring bud wise.
ETA pp how did you do the little bee icon? I only use the emojis in the dropdown tab at the top of the comment box cos I don't know where the others are...I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4 -
YBE, I was at work so was on my phone. I typed bee and the little icon came up, so not an MSE option.
It looks chilly out there, but no frost this morning. The forecast is for drizzle, but it's not looking likely at the moment.'A watched potato will never chit'...3 -
Still darn cold and wet. 3c and my drowning seeds are now cooking under the radiator as thats the only space I have right now.
It's grey and threatening now. I'm not the only one who's thoroughly fed up with this so everyone's grumpy. Only walks are on tarmac.
I bought some walking poles from lidl and told they are good for me. Got to go out and practice. Feel foolish. Any tips would be welcome.
There must have been some, lots of rain last night cause there were beautiful large beads of water on the big broccoli leaves. I tried to photograph them but the jewel like quality wouldn't come out. Something else to look up.
I've got a free emoji site on my laptop. Petty sure you could do that on your phone.
Obviously too wet, too cold to do any gardening so I'm trying not to look.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I've just witnessed a violent territorial encounter between two female blackbirds. It started in the pond and at one point I thought one of them was going to drown
I was all set to run outside to rescue the poor thing. They ended up behind a bush and three male blackbirds joined in the kerfuffle. Eventually one female flew out of the bush and the other female came out looking all triumphant. The males all came out looking a bit shellshocked with their beaks open and flew off. It's all happening here - Spring is definitely springing

I was advised to try walking poles too, twopenny, I'd forgotten about that. I'll have a look for them in Lidl, thanks. No idea how to use them properly - maybe YouTube??'A watched potato will never chit'...5
