pink_poppy said:It looks like they want Dusty's verge to get all churned up, not their own precious verge...It's not our verge; we own the hedge and the bank. The verge is a communal asset, like the road. It's the supposed site of the famous 'ransom strip,' or it would be if there was one!
We have an access clause allowing us access/egress along the entire boundary, which is not something the communals knew, or like, now they do know. Mind you, if they'd not lost the relevant bit of their deeds......
It's a fact of life, verges get churned up in winter. Perhaps not at Sandringham or Balmoral, but we're hardly in that league."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity5 -
YBL, you are now a member of the cat distribution service. One will be selected for you shortly, like it or lump itDusty, what pretty white stones, let's see how long they last. Smeone tried that at a nearby area of similar proportions...Quite a few got rolled around into other places....all that effort painting them white must count though eh?Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi6

I'm still alive, just lugging in the Asda delivery
, I've added a ball of string to my next one, never realised they sold it & save me hunting around now Wilko has gone. It's for tying up plants, but string has many uses, of course.
The string subject is because I was tying up yesterday, or more like tying down really, my new apple's branches to horizontal. Also secured the apple to its steady post, and planted my Morries new Autumn Bliss raspberry, it has shoots showing already so it is in with a chance.Do you have any spare white verge boulders, Dusty? We could do with a few at the volunteer spot to prevent people from driving onto the grass & churning it up while trying to turn round:Only gardening today is waiting for the Evri delivery, I found out Home Bargains have postal delivery, so I've BF & B 2kg, plus 1lt Jeyes fluid and 1lt tom fertiliser. The BF & B on offer @ £2.99, even cheaper than Aldi & certainly less than local GCThe letters film sound good, but I've gone into fume rant mode, they needlessly race swapped the woman PC, Gladys Moss, who was the first woman PC in Sussex., and famous in her own right, Blue Plaque etc. Maybe it was scripted by the new Google AI which puts George Washington and German ww2 soldiers as black.Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens6 -

taff the cat distribution line made me laugh! If I 'unsubscribe' am I likely to get double whack, like with certain emails
Nice to see that someone got a bargain in Home Bargains. I was in there yesterday and have you seen the price of their squirrel fodder bird food! Between that and cheese I'm about done in :l:lol:
I only came on to say - bad news Arb, it's a leap year so you've a wee bit longer to wait 'til it's not February any more
I didn't think slugs+snails would be the culprits re daffs etc. I don't see any shiny slime trails anywhere and how do they get up there without snapping the stalks? My wee daffs are properly diddy and weak so I thought it was a flying bug/beastie that could land on them rather than crawl up them... Shows what I know eh.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.5 -
Which reminds me, anyone seen an earwig lately?Have they gone extinct?Yesterday there was a dry if freezing spell and I got my brassica seeds in pots and left them outside as it was supposed to be dry with showers.Well they are going to have to learn to swim because it's been grey, wind gusts that bend fence panels and rain. Also got herbs planted in their new pots outside the back door in the alley. Just hoping whatever was eating the garden ones can't find their way down there. At least I can watch them carefullyAnd the little Apricot is in it's pot with deep pink buds coming.Of course the care says 'do not get wet' and 'cover' - well it's been drenched and bare root for a few days so it had better learn to toughen up! You do what you can do.The gooseberrys seem to be still alive with some buds but growing thorns the size of which you wouldn't believe and the plants are only 2' high yetEverything else seems to be either being eaten or looking dire. My strawberries aren't the hydrophonic sort and they aren't happy. No gardening today due to wet and windy, tomorrow busy and Friday wildly busy but the forcast is much the same. However Dustys warm front seems to have arrived but the air is still lovely and fresh. Best of both worlds.Dusty, there's someone here who's put massive rocks on the verge of a normal street. Everyone is bemused because it was never a drive over point. Looks awful and must have cost a bomb.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

No earwigs here thank god, but don't curse it 2p
Fingers crossed your herbs and tree and strawbs all remember they can swim
Nothing to report from Shawshank Patch. No garden done, his Holeyness isn't being interesting, I've not seen Handsome for a few days, nothing startling growing or dying (other than whatever's eating all and sundry), no new buds on my Ska tree... all a bit samey really. Well the pole people have put another one (overnight!) at the end of the road so the Oracle's grandson is pricing up chainsawsI must have been having too many bad thoughts about those people because my phone/bb bill has gone from £24 pm to £53pm and they're for taking the first payment tomorrow. Urine extraction territory is that, and I ain't paying it. So yous might be seeing a lot less of me if I only have my mobile + data to do this on
Warm out there this morning - 9' They were right about the rain yesterday, except the start time, finish time, and the amount. But it did rain in the end so I expect they'd call that a win. More rain for this morning and then dry but gloomy this aft. Possibly.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.5 -

Looks awful and must have cost a bomb. These rocks have been sitting in a garden since I was a child. I didn't know what they were for then, and I still don't! They're a good size and could be really effective at ....err...something!
[Removed by Forum Team]It rained until I reached the town on the estuary yesterday, but stayed almost dry there. It rained as soon as I left the coast on the return journey too. I saw only the usual stuff in Lidl, like lavenders, primulas and out of season pelargoniums. They'd decided to put a fairly meagre selection of seeds by the exit door, where my trolley and I got in people's way, so I didn't look for long. The same goes for the dahlias and lilies.
More rain overnight here, but it seems to have stopped now. I wouldn't quite describe it as mild, but the wind's eased, so we should see some garden action today."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity4 -
I've got your rain Dusty, very soggy out there right now, and they say there's more to follow. The ornamental cherry on council verge has opened some flowers, I was going to try for a pic, but it's too wet for now.2P, Apricot buds, will you need to get out there with the small paint brush in your best bee costume? And seed sowingYBE, BB bill, is it one of those that you can get it for less, just have to agree a new deal with them? I know my one, NOW, does that, send a daft bill but then has a bit with much lower if sign up for another year.My H Bargains fertiliser pack is on the way, well Evri has it at least so it's somewhere between HQ and me, no rush with this weather anyway.DGD has passed her spraying exams, now she can legally spray away commercially. Changing times as I think back to helping my grandad spray DDT onto his allotment, stick bike pump brass thing into bucket, suck up noxious fluid & squirt it.
>:. Perhaps wearing masks & protective clothing is a good idea after all.
Thinking of following 2P down the sow some seeds route this weekend. The coleus I nearly did a bit back, and have a rummage to see what else is likely.Has any tried the Double Cup method for starting tomatoes? It's on YT, but YT is not known for truth all the time. I'm tempted to try a couple, although I've not had any real problems with the traditional way, just the DC method seems to be easier once started, especially as I only grow about a dozen or so plants.

Sounds an awful lot of bother. I used rolled newspaper for seedlings when I was in a flat.
Now I have small pots and a plastic tray for them to sit in. I can water quickly into the tray for under moisture or from the top and they drain into the tray. A dozen done in one go.
They usually go into the soil from there unless there's no space and then in bigger pots - maybe.
I have photos, tonight if there's time.
I have a policy of not growing anything fragile though......we'll forget the apricotI can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I've had no problems streaming, video-calling/working from home, gaming etc via this method for the last 5 or so years.
Edit: Also to say I don't have a home phone line - just my mobile - so no line rental etc.
I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.6
