Farway said:Those connections are what was always fitted way back, maybe lack of Earth was reason for 3 pin plug, even though all double insulated etc? I expect it is all explained on page 129, para 4, section 2b, footnote vii of EU directive 18000CAlmost exactly my thoughts, except maybe sub-section 2c....The trouble is, some people fitting stuff after-market will put the male connector on the live side!

Gawd, another wet & stormy morning and another day of zero gardening. However, I do have a T & M catalogue arrived to browsePlus, a very tempting e-mail from T & M, "patio" fruit trees, 3 for £15, could this be my chance to get a small cherry & have it potted under bird proof cover? It's Sylvia, & from RHS website, "This is a naturally dwarf cultivar, forming a neat column; suitable for growing in a large container."Very tempted, but I'll hold off until I check P & PPoor DD, the fresh water problem may now extend to next Wednesday, seems wrong sort of water has got into River Itchen and the water works can't sort out good from bad, probably too much bad that the same company has pumped in further upstreamAnd ironically the reservoirs are running short of good stuff, plenty of bad stuff, reminds me of, I think was Bevan, who, to paraphrase when food rationing was around, it takes special skills to run out when surrounded by it. In his case, it was fish & coal post-warHope you received some good news from Council DustyEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens4

On a lighter note, word came through at the 11th hour from the powers that have too much, telling us we can now build a new farm track to replace the tricky one being sold off with our barn.
It's only taken us 13 months to get to this point, though we could have had it all done and dusted last June, were it not for more people with time on their hands, three of them owning more than one property.
I'm doing some 'special thinking' for a couple of them!
OT: It's wet, but the drunkards are promising some sunshine with the rain later, so I may pop into Rosemoor later for a walk in their woods.Meanwhile, continuing the wet theme, here are some water droplets on a plant I can barely spell, let alone pronounce:"There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Wow! That must feel good Abs
What a difference.
Next week a garden. It's exciting.
Cold and wet with enough sunny spells to make you go out and get soaked slowly after.
Rain forecast for the foreseeable again.
Can cope with the wet, grumble through the cold but this dark and changeable is miserable. All those jobs you save for rainy days are mostly still waiting.
I'm suffering from lack of gardening meditation too.
Only 47 days and then it starts to get light again
Hope my bulbs are in by then! Seem to remember the same last year. Should have left them where they were....
Farway, that sounds a good deal on fruit trees. Go for it. It's an adventure.
Yes Dusty, i still have those sockets. Trimmers used to come with them near the handle. I've still got a couple spare from deceased tools for joining leads cut by the mowerI can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

And it's been lovely to see there's good soil under all that bind weed/brambles/random junk. The digger is just scraping it all up and they're going to get a picker in to take it from the front.
EDIT: and I just looked at the time - 6pm and it's pitch black outside! Time for a Victor Meldrew impressionI'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.4 -

Next week a garden. It's exciting.Looks nice and dark; what we used to call 'occupational soil' for reasons I'll skip here!Dark at 6pm? Sadly, I think it's general.Driving down the big valley at around 5pm, I thought I was catching sight of flooded fields, but when I got a good look, it was mist swirling-in, as it does, just after sundown. Soon, I'll no doubt be watching out for patches of ice if I'm out 'late.'
6pm is curfew for me now!
We still have a few flooded bits of road here, but with the 4x4 those aren't a worry. With fresh MoT, it lives again, for this winter anyway. Two whole weeks in the garage, not for a massive amount of work, but because the poor guy had gout!
We didn't go to Rosemoor. The showers were too close together. Instead, much research on crab apple varieties; so much I want one now. It's not a big space, so it has to be smallish, still look like a tree, and preferably with red or dark leaves, red or orange fruit, and pink flowers that smell nice would be good too! AGM would make it perfect.
Hmmm...Incidentally, Farway, that orange canna lily is still flowering."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity3
