Congratulations, poppy! I believe they have MSE 'over there,' so Bluey may see your front page pic if she isn't too busy with other things.I won't get any prizes for nicking others' pictures.
I'd not downloaded mine last night, and now I have, there's only one that's good enough for the illustrious company I keep here! This is it: a Shaggy Ink Cap in the cafe lawn!
I looked carefully, but despite the recent weather and the time of year, no other fungi were spotted.I might have some closer to home, though. We'll see. Another mixed bag of sunshine and heavy showers predicted.....

It's tipping down again, the Ventsky shows a large rain blob in the Channel which fringes over me, but all I'll be doing this morning is Covid jab and quick shufti at the volunteer patch next door. I may try for Pansy faces with rain drops but that dependsCongrats to Poppy on front page. Dusty, I reckon your Ink cap is worthy, lovely photo, I'll have a look while I'm being jabbed at the volunteer grass, we get fungi at times, but I can't see me getting low enough to get a photo like yoursEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens3

You haven't seen the 3 others I took, where it was off to one side, out of focus etc!
Mooching around the garden the other day, I was looking for a new angle and came up with 'Plants flowering now, which perhaps shouldn't be.' I took this photo, and then thought, "Well, it's only October!" Besides, I couldn't find any others, apart from some Japanese Iris, which remain close to opening.....but still haven't bloomed."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Just been around to the neighbours to drop off some halloween treats for the kids/grandkids (in the hopes that means they won't come knocking this weekend!)
I can't decide what the weather is going to do - I'm thinking spotting until at least 6 or 7 when the Tusky app shows a proper rain coming in tonight. It looks like it's going to miss me completely tomorrow... so I'm not sure if today or tomorrow is the better time to be planting bulbs in the front. I had a late night/late morning, so I'm not doing anything for at least a couple of hoursI'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.5 -
I've just seen a crow fluttering wings next to another crow (the parent??) hoping to get fed. I don't think I've ever seen that happening so late in the year. Another thing I noticed when I was out last night about 6.30pm, was the blackbirds in various places were twittering away as they do when there's a predator nearby and they have a nest to protect. Maybe this always happens and I've just never noticed it before...
We've just had a very pretty rainbow, with spots of rain and bright sunshine. It's looking a bit grey and cold out there now though. I'll investigate 'plants flowering, that shouldn't be' in the garden a bit laterLovely pic of the Day Lily btw, but my favourite is the Shaggy Ink Cap.

I'm asking on the energy forum, but figured it might be worth asking here as well... does anyone have a recommendation for a coal bunker? I bought about 200kg (10 sacks) of smokeless ovoids earlier this year (previously I've just bought a bag or two as and when) and the bags take up a lot of shed space plus don't look great.
Google turns up lots of plastic or shinny galvanised steel (neither looking very durable or attractive) - and my builder would probably charge a small fortune if I asked him to make me a concrete one to match the house/raised bed... so I'm open to suggestions

Could you try looking on Facebook marketplace or similar sites for second hand ones?? Or even Freecycle type sites. We have a local Facebook page where people can ask for things for free too; I've got the makings of a concrete coal bunker in my garage that the previous owners left dumped in pieces in the garden, so I'm guessing there will be other unwanted ones around the country. Be aware though that the individual pieces weigh an absolute ton...'A watched potato will never chit'...3

An 8' 6" cattle trough would cost around £200 delivered. Its galvanised finish could be painted over or it could be left to weather (about 5 years!). It would hold around 8-10 bags, and if outdoor ply was used to make some top covers, it could double-up as a seat.OK..... but I am a part-time farmer!Off to sample the delights of the M5 in a minute. With some half-terms ending, probably half of the current population of Devon & Cornwall will be doing likewise!I agree, poppy; the day lily has shades of the 'Little Shop of Horrors' about it!
I've found another fungus, though, and it's a whopper!

That sounds like a good idea, especially doubling up as a seat or work top but then I don't know what you have in your head Abs
I got two old fashioned dustbins with the house. One I've used as a water store and colllect fresh water from the house. I painted it cream. Wish I hadn't thrown the second one away now.
Plastic could be cladded in wood or synthetic grey cladding.
Loving the photos. That spider cobweb of Farways stays in my mind and the detail in that ink cap, these fungi grow real interesting shapes and textures when you really look.
Supposed to be fine and sunny all day but unable to sleep I poked my head out the door at 5,30 and it was spitting rain from a clear sky.
So going to be too wet to mow again
Still plenty of painting to do. Plus enlarging the hedgehog run, cleaning pavers and brick. You know, all those exciting jobs.......I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
