No gardening for me today - family celebration - 100 years, still at home and going strong!
Great tip re leaf cuttings taff, I shall be trying that. I found two potted heuchera completely without roots yesterday, although they looked well they just lifted off the soil, no roots whatever. I'll be checking for WV and trying some leaf cuttings
YBE - I do love spider webs at this time of year but why o why do they build them in the same place every night? I remove one every morning between the greenhouse and the hedge when I go up to the compost bins. I hate dong it after all that effort!
Dusty - I paid £1.58 to fill up at your local Devon Tesco, £1.48 in West Oxfordshire at Jet!!! I stupidly relied on the large supermarket being the cheapest deal. I remember my mum fuming at a 2d difference, now it's 2/- (that makes me feel old)Love living in a village in the country side5 -
I tried to get the spiders and the webs clearly, but I'm no breed of a photographer so those pics are the best I got wellies
I don't know how long they've been there, it's only cos I was on my knees doing something that I noticed them. I couldn't even tell you if they survive the bins being emptied or if they get knocked off and have to start again...
That sounds like a bunch of money for all your works Arb. Did you see I mentioned you a wee while ago? I wouldn't go for the sandstone slabs cos they're properly cold when the temps drop, I had to put shoes on just to sit and have a coffee. If you're like me - barefoot from april 'til october - I'd not recommend them. I like the sound of the rest of it, it'll make such a difference eh
Forecast cool here this morning (which it is, 13') and dry (which it isn't). Mind least it's better weather than up Aberdeen way like Farway's dgd, haven't they had it shocking up there! Looks like it'll clear out to sea tonight thoughI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.5 -
YoungBlueEyes said:Ring ring, ring ring. Hello is that IrnBru? Ah hello. Right I’m on the brink of digging up actual girders now so will you send a man to collect? Thanks so much. Bye!(50p for scale). That is a fine collection, Bluey! Those iron bars look like they could still come in handy. Here, whenever I dig 'virgin' earth, I get baler twine. It's post nylon, obviously, because they were on easy-rot jute before, but I can't believe the quantity since, what, 1950?I'm using 2/3 of the good finds: a heavy fencing bar with a point about 1.6m long and a lighter bar with a point and a hole in the top bit into which another bar or a bit of wood could be inserted to turn it. No idea what that was for, but it's great for planting leeks or inserting plants into hedge banks etc. The last big find was a post rammer, so heavy it would have needed 4 men to use properly. (4 handles!) I sold it for scrap. Wish I hadn't, as it was possibly a rarity.Lovely sunrise here, but I was too bleary-eyed to look for cobwebs!

Well done all!I don't fill up in the supermarket you name. I once bought petrol for my brush cutter in there and it refused to start.Tried everything. In the end, I emptied it, put someone else's petrol in it., and away we went!
If you are our way again, Sainsburys in Barnstaple is usually cheapest. Not exactly 'local,' but then nothing is!

A 4 man post rammer?! Bladdy hell. Just don't go looking them up cos you're sure to find that they're rarer than hen's teeth and worth a bomb. Sod's Law.
I've dug up dozens of nails and screws but I slung them. That's just the more interesting/weirder bits... I spose I should be thankful for the tree roots or I'd not be digging about in that corner at all.
Oh and I'm calling it the Empty-ish Quarter from now on, because cats.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4 -
That's some landscaping bill, Arb, but if you get the benefit for many years to come, it's no different from a new kitchen etc.
I'm so looking forward to having the difficult landscaping done here, preferably before I reach my dotage. At our first house, we actually got to sit on the patio and say, “Right, that's it all done now!” However, the garden was only 25' long at the furthest point.....and then the neighbour planted Leylandii between us and the big yellow thing in the sky!
Oh, hang-on, here's my mystery dahlia that was going to be unique....Nice enough, but..."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity7 -
I agree with Dusty. It's a bunch of money but it's a bunch of work, so do it once and do it right. Especially so if you have the money sat there and you're not moving again. Or not for a loong time at least. Looking forward to the before and after picsI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4

Part of the sole was hanging off 🥲
Got lots done there huge buddleia cut back just need a big strong person with a saw to take it down further! Forsythia lopped the top off, a cottoneaster also hacked plus many more at least 6 bins worth, unfortunately only 1 bin.
Back for a shower and to try the hottest ever curry from M and S. Definitely a tongue tingler.
love the colour of the sumac tree.Got the washing done , another load in today .Still looking sunny this morning.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.5 -
