Bluey - "back/hip/pelvis? That combo reminds me of a woman I used to work with, Karen. She had the same complaint and she was ages getting it sorted. They kept telling her she had arthritis in her hip joint."Well isn't that just exactly the same. The first doctor said it coule be coccyx (I had to look that up!) but she said nothing could be done. The second was getting somewhere before lockdown and he's left.Yes, I have the arthur-itis now because it hasn't been dealt with.Anyhoos loving the stories on this forum - going to miss you MsBlue but we'll carry on. Going to be a long read. It's facinating how we all have gardens but are doing so many things so differently/Yes I have some good shots but they aren't garden related.Dusty, that's some hard working wife you have there. Glad to see the knees are fully operating now.Somebody mentioned not liking the pale huceras and I'm ambivilant about them but here's a photo from Open Gardens where someone displayed one really well I though - copper coloured potWas gloomy and cold this morning but the sun has come out and it's warming up. So the Drunkards have it. They must have closed the pub, the new programmes seem to be working.Goldie, amazing detail and light in the wings. What did you take the photo with?Wort, My great grandmother managed 96......but I think she had a healthier life than I do

Looks like MrsD is in fine form Dusty
And if yous get sick of them hedges I’ll have em!
Farway “Results are whatever you want them to be”Were you in the diplomatic office ha haa! I just said what I did to keep him on his toes
We’re in the ‘content with our lot, let’s sort the paperwork’ camp.
Change of scenery is right, we’re right at the top of the north - mountains and water - it does me right
And I can recommend Morries clematis. My one hasn’t died a bit, it’s not even unhappy :clapping:
This is why I like rambling conversations 2p, you never know when you might say something helpful. If I remember rightly they didn’t do anything for Karen’s ‘broken bum’ (we thought we were so witty!) but they gave her painkillers and a leaflet on how to not sit on it properly. She went out and bought herself a pile cushion thing so she wasn’t actually sat on it and give it chance to heal. It took a long while but it did heal itself. She used to run a very hot shallow bath before bedtime for the ease too. I’m still not a doctor etc.
More washing to go out now, it’s beautiful sunshine here. Drunkards (and CountryFile) nailed it again!I don't wanna shut up, I want a 7up and a 10p mix-up.6 -
Not the same, but I'm away for four nights in October for work (not all together) and I'm getting low key stressed about all the traveling (nearly 40 hours on a train between all the trips) - so I'm trying to distract myself by thinking about tidying the garden.
I was going to pull my butternut squash and tip the soil into the compost, but found it was growing a surprise second squash under all the leafiness! Now I'm trying to work out how long I can leave it to ripen before it's at risk of first frosts and if there's anything I can do to protect it... any advice? (and yes, I did take a picture and will get it on here in due course).I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.5 -
Have you got any bits of wire somewhere? Never get rid of these things, you never know when you're going to need them.Make a cage and put some fleece over it. Poundland used to do it but now it's all halloween/Christmas etc. Ask,beg, borrow, etc.Long train journeys - notebook, small gardening book etc?Bluey, problem is I've got a 'cushion' in the attic from when I ruptured a disk. I can't get up the ladder, at least I can but can't get down to get it.Off for a swim and sauna then into the garden I hope. Enough sorting probs for today.

Fleece isn't an issue as I've got some real wool insulation as well as lots of microfibre blankets that can be sacrificed to the cause if required. Mum suggested bubblewrap but I was worried about it getting damp/condensation.I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.4 -
Things to do on travels.. I often just gaze out the window or end up talking to someone. But I always stick a book in my bag, or some puzzles, or music on my phone. Or you could eat some hours on fora…. Always have your phone charger handy and sit next to the socket
Whereabouts roughly generally are you? Is bad weather likely? A fleece would be my call too if you’re expecting frosts.I don't wanna shut up, I want a 7up and a 10p mix-up.4 -

Ok so you’re not at the top of Scotland or somewhere that’d go from sunny and mild to 6ft of snow in a New York minute.Cheapo fleece it is thenI don't wanna shut up, I want a 7up and a 10p mix-up.4

You should be ok with cheapie fleece, it needs the sun to harden the skin but if you leave it as long as you can you can just eat it straightaway. We normally start getting frosts mid October but you can check yur first frost date online. And as others have said, do it once, do it properly so your schedule might be pricey but ig you never have to do it again, worth it.Beautiful drgonfly goldfinches...I know it's the sun but it does look like it's been dipped in gold..2p, I really like that heuchera, I've not seen one as pale that wasn't green before. All mine are in the ground [or seddling it up in pots] and haven't noticed any wv yet. The red oones were in pots for a few years until I put them in the front garden, I alwaysewhen the weather was warming after winter even if it didn't feel like it because they would 'lift' themselves off the pot earth.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi5

Yes, I think a lot is having them high and where the sun shines through the leaves.I have mostly the very dark ones because they do all seasons but I was tempted by this.Another helping of runner beans cooking now. And another to come. The tomatoes I put to ripen are deceased. Shame. I really miss real tomatoes when they stop. A whole different beast to the shop ones.Good news. I've been mowing and weeding and for those who've been on here a while I had a rosemary each side of the bird bath so just a foot or so apart. One grew lushly and the other side died repeatedly (3 plants and varied types). I saw on GW that it's a virus. But why only one side?Anyway, the lush one seems to have rooted a sturdy branch so as well as cuttings I'm going to try that branch. Perhaps it's a variety that is resistant. One way to find out!
