Happy New Year to you BC, and to all the others reading this thread. o:) I'm a  little bleary-eyed this morning and it looks rather unwelcoming outside, so here's one I did earlier.....last night in fact, when the weather started to close-in....

    Happy New Year all
Had a quick browse through my D T brown catalogue, nothing tempting so far, but I've already bought this year's seeds so easy to resist
A useful thing within the catalogue is a section marked out with with sowing pans, progress & results charts to fill in etc. I've never done this in my 50 plus years of growing but I know it would be useful if I did. I may give it a go
Thought I'd mention this because I sometimes see thread  asking when to sow what, crop rotation charts and the like and this part of the catalogue could be a useful tool

Another thing in there is read to plant veg, sort of plug veg.
Now I know this would be useful for those with limited space, or easy / quick option but for the life of me I cannot see the sense of paying nearly £6 [plus P & P] for ten plug beetroots to grow on, which makes each one 60p each, more than one costs in a greengrocer.
I can see where plug broad beans or peas for instance would be useful, cropping over a period & getting more than one meal from them plus freshly picked taste

To make you feel all smug about having 'homegrown' veg obviously :)

Maybe you should sow a few extra seeds and sell plug-plants outside your gate :D You might make your fortune!

'Cause, nowadays, the experience of having purchased an item is tantamount to having brought to glorious fruition the dream that was conjured in clouds of rose tinted glory when first your eyes lit on the display of seedlings with their lovely photo labels.
At least this is my theory.
If things for sale included on the label the hours of work required from the purchaser to achieve the result shown in the photos we would all be better off and have fewer started but not finished projects cluttering up the place.

Heyho, Happy New Year one and all. Remember if you're lucky enough to catch someone you dislike bending don't waste your opportunity.  >:)

  • I have to complain- the Met office got it wrong. Snow was forecast here at 2pm. It actually started snowing at 2.04.pm. How wrong can they get it? Seriously though I'm pretty impressed at the accuracy of the forecast.

Ground and everywhere has quickly been covered in a blanket of snow. Next door neighbour's dog was going mental in the garden chasing snow flakes It's only a puppy . And next door neighbour has finally given up trying to erect his mini greenhouse. A braver soul than me to have gone outside in the first place!

Lol @ ms, the Met Office needs Carol Kirkwood! 😹.  Doesn't matter if she gets it wrong or right, she's just plain lovely lol

No snow here, getting very cold now, sent hubby out for fish n chips.  It sucks being in Tier 4 but at least that's still classed as essential 👍

It was so cold first thing I couldn't prise open my wheelie bin!  I long for the Summer already!
