Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Decided to start with something cheerfulDr JC used to always finish on a positive note. He seems to have lost that since not being with his father at his demise. But I was intrigued by the links to the parliment review, surprising so polite and saying it for what it was it made a refreshing change and interesting to hear reality and not politics. As they tried to shut him down for just stating the links to what we should know (worldwide) he's become a lot more cautious.Back to the real world. Exhausted I stayed in all day waiting for a plasterer who didn't turn up and it's been raining so couldn't get in the garden. I see the toms have potential blight when I went out to pick one for lunch. I'll check again tomorrow.Need a bag for cat poo, my neighbours catThen hopefully it's fine and I can tackle all the bulbs they've dug up.........and may get around to moving the blue grass that's over grown and burying the just surviving perennial wallflower. Got to say though that the front from my bedroom window is looking goodish. Purple leaved plum and Gertrude Jekyll rose waving in the window.Out back needs some serious attention. Want to plant spring iris in a new bed I've to dig, bury the thymes deeper so they fluff up next year. But my one shining light is the little sunflower in this gloomy weather. I'm guessing it grew from bird seed into the pot I stored old compost so I may try planting some for next year. It's not a small one like the Morries seeds and not a huge one. It's just right.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on

That is a cheerful sunflower 2p, and I like the pot it's in
I love sunflowers but I've had no luck with them here. Other than the plasterer how's the works going?
I got a bit sucked in to the B+DrC videos, but I've got your Buster Crabbe link opened in a new window Farway, so that's the next thing.
This is taking soo looonngg cos the page keeps freezing and 'becoming unresponsive'so I'll give it up and come back later.
Raining here, which only Ventusky predicted and is currently showing. Drunkards and sobers just say cloud. Meant to brighten up and be sunny later, which would be nice cos there's not a breath out there right now.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.3 -

The drunks obviously didn't look out of the window. You folk seem more open-minded than most of my friends. Had a phone call from one who now lives 40 miles distant to say she and her OH have just caught the lurgy for the third time. She “can't understand it.” I suggested they listen to the latest outpourings from the Centres For Disease Control via Dr C....but she won't, any more than she looked at info I gave her 3 years ago. “Ah, we're all wise after the event,” was her parting shot on that. Err...OK!To happier things now and some shots of the toms in the polytunnel.See what I mean about the BCs? Almost no support needed, and they just go on, and on. Three in a big pot here. Yesterday here was a complete wash-out, rained most of the day, nice to hear sun came out somewhere in the country. It was raining first thing this morning as well, but supposed to get scorchio for the weekend, which should trigger my sedums into opening, they are changing colour and the bees are showing an interest, but warm sun will be just the ticketIt's a bit humid out now with the recent rain, I've already given some sails flying lessons first thing this morningYoungBlueEyes said:I got a bit sucked in to the B+DrC videos, but I've got your Buster Crabbe link opened in a new window Farway, so that's the next thing. For those old enough, a bit like when the Russians accused US of U2 spy planes, US denied it, up pops Khrushchev at UN with bits of shot down U2 & its pilot Gary Powers on trial in Moscow. Red face timeSpy satellites were the resultNice sunflower 2P, mine came to nothing this year, very odd. I hope your spring iris turn out well, the squirrels eat mine, so I don't bother planting themMy cannas are lush, but zero flowers and being September I think they are going to turn out to have been a waste of space, I suppose they could just flower before the frost if we get an Indian summerI still have some outdoor toms, deliberately left them until September, just for bragging rights. Photo time later this weekendPhoto, these are the Cape Primroses I started as leaf cuttings last year, intention is to sell them off for volunteer funds but so far I'm faffing about and not taking them alongL-R, Charlotte, Harlequin & Red ChilliEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens4

Re the arbour, it was more of wooden supports thrown together by my my late husband, though it’s lasted a good twenty years. The top struts have now gone and the post are listing! I will ask advice from visiting family next week, all gardeners of better type than I.
I had decided to not wash this morning as the drunkards forcast was rain till lunch time. And it was certainly chilly but the sun has come out and there’s an enough blue for sailors trousers. So washers now on.The chili should over winter inside ,they like neglect ! As I can tell being they are the only food plant I can grow🤭
I had a M + S cyclamen in my cloakroom all winter and planted it outside at Easter when it stopped flowering. It has now been flowering for a month outside. I’m tempted to try more.Dithering over what to do today as I am in work over the weekend, till Tuesday when el scorchio is here !!!Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.4 -
Dusty that balcony yellow certainly looks a good doer, supplier is obviously a good one 😉
Farway those cape primroses put mine to shame . Though I’m pleased I managed to keep 1 of the 2 that got damaged in the cold kitchen. I will have to remember to move it from there this winter.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.4 -
It’s been lovely and sunny here the last couple of days, so I’ve been out brambling this morning.
This little critter hitched a lift...
And this big critter laid claim to the brambles i was just about to pick...

Lovely damselfly picture - I think it's an immature female Common Blue, taking on her colour from tail to tip.
I'm amazed you spotted her mixed in with that camouflaged body
I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.3 -
Can’t be any windows at Drunkard HQ, or maybe they just can’t see out of them from their slumped position on the pub floor
It’s lifted to low cloud here now and there’s the mere hint of breeze, which is nice.
I don’t understand why people are closed-minded, I really don’t. I find people endlessly fascinating, you truly never know what someone’s gonna say next. It’s why I’ve happily done a lot of bar work in my life - the stuff folks come out with us one of the joys of this world. It’s right up there with training puppies imo. I’ve had everything from websites that might interest me, new (to me) authors recommended, new bands discovered, new good/drink, hotels here and abroad, and just great rambling conversations in generalAs evidenced on here. We’re on a weather thread, sharing about gardening, talking about energy and what we’ll need to be doing, next thing I’ll be reading about Buster Crabbe. Love it
Your primroses are amazing Farway, I wish mine looked like that. And from cuttings too!
So you got your polytunnel sorted then Dusty? One job off the list eh. Don’t those toms look happy. And blight-less. Are you the only one of us who managed not to get it..?The little cyclamen I planted out yesterday haven’t died yet, so that’s something. Still no blackies though, I wonder what’s going on there….
Edit - saying about cyclamen wort. Mine are from B+M on 2p’s recommendation, if you can’t get more in Marks’I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4 -
Dustyevsky said:(Removed by Forum Team)(Removed by Forum Team)On topic - we had c. 2 hours of lovely sunshine late am, proving the cider drinkers wrong again - they had continuous cloud cover, which they've now belatedly updated to sun peeping from behind clouds - just as the sun has disappeared behind the continuous cloud which has now rolled up...ho hum... Oo - which makes me wonder...are the weather forecasts just another of those circus acts?!And, since I usually just lurk and don't often post, thought I ought to contribute a photo - most exciting insect of the summer - a hornet which has been hunting flies on my marjoram - somewhat hidden by foliage in centre of shot - it was stinging its prey (completely hidden - yes sorry it's a rubbish photo...) before shooting off with it at high speed presumably to feed to its young?Oh, and I looked up Buster Crabbe, but couldn't find much he'd done of interest since Flash Gordon...4
