Hope it passes quickly.
You need to find some windfall apples to go with your blackberry.
Don't know about rosehips, I stick to the wild roses. Love homemade rosehip syrup! Lot's of vitamin C. Keeps all winterI always seem to come down with something when I have to go on public transport nowadays. Probably because I'm not going into the office to get exposed to things on the regular.
Funny you should mention apples. There was a small (egg sized) crab apple randomly in the middle of my garden this morning. Not really munched and I couldn't spot any apples on the neighbouring trees so a bit of a mystery.
Google suggests all roses produce edible hips (but dog roses might be the nicest tasting) so worth an experiment in a few months I think. I've got probably 300g of strawberries in the freezer, plus the odd blackberry and eventually the mulberries, and I'm thinking I'll make a jar of jam for Christmas, so if I only get a few I could chuck them/the juice in there.I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.6 -
Wow Farway, your lily is spectacular, I bet the fragrance is incredible
And did you eat that blackberry?
I'd love the sort of garden that's in your pic Dusty, just a whole load of everything all over the place. If it could refresh itself with different flowers all through the year that'd be heavenI agree about the labels being a bit distracting, but I'd put up with them for all that colour and charm.
Did you get your arch rose sorted 2p? Is it the beautiful one you've put up a pic of on here?
A Virginia creeper, thanks Gorse. I'll keep my eye out for one. I need to find a nursery really. Garden centres are a bit dear, and while Lidl/Aldi have plenty of good stuff they're only little pretty plants - I need little plants that'll end up big enough for backbone. Having said that I bought 2 campanulas and another sunflower bush thing in Aldi yesterday
I hope your friend's mother is alright? I don't know how these nursing/care homes aren't accountable in this day and age. All the money they charge and can get away with doing very little, and anyone who complains is then worried about eviction. MiL was taken into hospital yesterday morning, turns out she's severely dehydrated and her kidneys are screaming. 8k a month and they aren't making sure she has enough to drinkSo himself left work and we went to the hosp to see if she's ok, then on to the nursing home to ...errr... express displeasure at the situation. So now we're worried they're gonna kick her out. It's not right, it really isn't. Sorry. Rant over.
OT the drunkards were right yesterday! And the day before! The shockRaining here on and off all night and still drizzly mizzling now. No wind to blow it over either. But it's not cold per se, more autumnal damp. Brighter this aft and lovely tomorrow, they say. I'm almost inclined to believe them
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4 -
YBL, it's a common thing apparently, have you had a look for these? They're very useful.
Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi5 -
Taff what a great idea. I might get some. All sorts of times they could be useful.
But hillarious that they are selling water
I'll pass that info on because I know a few who have relatives with dementia.
Also as you age or are unwell, urinary infections are a problem. If you're not exercising your not thirsty.
Darn chilly here. The sun hasn't arrived yet.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

It matters to medical research, but I can't say why, or in what context, so not much use really.Remember Galileo? Nor do I. but it's similar!
The forecast today is dry and relatively calm, but bearing in mind the rain we had yesterday evening was not forecast, anything's possible. A day of tedious trekking up and down the field with a sprayer may be in the offing. It's the price I pay for being almost chemical free, but perhaps I won't find much of interest and finish in an hour or two.

Sunny again, and warming up nicelyMy Boysenberry arrived on schedule yesterday, very well packaged in stout cardboard, well-marked as live plants. Left on my doorstep and right way up as well, delivery drivers are losing their touch, could've at least driven over it to maintain standardsUnpacked and pleased with it, it stands about chest high including the 3L pot, with new this year's growth, so I may just get a taster next year. Watered and left to get fresh air, I'll probably leave it until tomorrow to get it into the groundWent hunting for the Home Page, found it with my blackberry pic on it. Thanks for tip 2PI found more blackberries near my garage, so may follow AR in collecting and freezing for eventual jam. I used to make "Hedgerow Jam" which is basically every fruit you find made into jam, in my case the bulk was apples & blackberries, with sprinkle of goosegogs & currantsYoungBlueEyes said:Wow Farway, your lily is spectacular, I bet the fragrance is incredible

From my experience YBE hospitals are not much better, my mother gradually starved because the fools highly qualified nurses left her food & drink out of her reachWhen we pointed out her weight loss they promised to monitor her weight & food intake, once we started to monitor the record sheets on the end of her bed they removed the records which had obviously been falsified, she was immobile and bed bound, but they had recorded her walking to the toilet, etcI think we'll need a Rant Corner YBEHope your whatever clears up AR, could it be hay fever? Mine is right pain in the eyes & nose right now, with bit of a cough chucked inGardening today is a bit of watering, maybe moan to Council, online, because garden waste bin not yet emptied, but they may have problems, lories keep conking out apparentlySo far my outdoor toms are looking good, trusses of them waiting to ripenCucumber, still waiting, only flowers so far.2P I envy the runners, mine are not there yet, only finger sized, maybe the weekend?Small toms from a West Country supplier who used to frequent these pagesEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens4 -
Bluddy hell taff, they look amazing! I’ve never heard of them. Thank you for that link, I’ll be getting some and telling others about them. (On the other hand, they’re solving a problem that shouldn’t damn well exist… how hard is it to provide a cup of water with a straw in it?!
)
And don’t anybody open a rant page for I’ll dominate it entirely and empty my phone battery doing it 🙄 Jesus Farway, I don’t know what to say to that. At what point does short-staffed/very busy become actual neglect, or cruelty, or worse?Anyway. That’s what my toms look like, just the right size but not the right colour. Some of thems a bit big tbh but still green so… need some warm sunshine (think you’ve got dibs on it today).Speaking of bird food. I love all my wee birds, which is a good job cos the last time I bought them food it cost more than my week’s food shopI buy the big sacks of sunflower hearts and mixed seeds and a big box of suet pellets so it does last a good long while but still. At least the squirrels are happy. Grrr.
I hope your cold/lurgy/virus/plague clears up Arb, summer colds are more miserable I always think.I wonder if those jellydrops would be good if you’re just off kilter in general…? Colds… innards having a clear out… etc.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.5 -
I’ve just harvested and eaten my very first home grown tomato - it was extremely yummy... 🍅😁

Ooh I’m jealous pp, mine are nowhere near!
Did you save some seeds to plant next year?I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.3 -
Ha ha you did need the photo to prove it pops.
My plants are very weedy/reedy and pathetic. Rasps still not ripening right. In fact apart from the runners, a poor year.
I've managed some lawn edging with scissors, dead heading and weeding all on my knees. I can't walk forwards but can climb into benches and walk sideways.
Going to be interesting.
Sun has come out, hot but poking around the garden the soil is still dry despite a touch of rain.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
