Here you go - toms right now. And a strawb plant cos it just fits there rightly and it was protected from that wind
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4 -
I was somewhat kernackered last night, which is why I lost my post. Three hours traipsing around the field in the heat, looking for weeds, was a bit much. However, it's done now for a month or so. I will have missed some thistles. It's a pity ragwort and thistles have to be 'persuaded' not to grow, because they're good insect plants. Now the good news; we got the ecologists report on the hedge we wish to remove for a rear driveway/field access. Her main finding...."The hedgerow to be removed is not of importance under the Hedgerow Regulations (1997)."...is all we need. It will be up to the Council to decide if they want compensatory planting, but we shall do that anyway, planting along the visibility splay. The only 'loss' in the longer term will be at the gates. All a storm in a teacup, but it's important no one can accuse us of doing anything underhand.
Of course, that doesn't mean a number of our neighbours won't still find something to be outraged about, but if we get a green light from the council, we can go ahead in September without further interruptions.
The only 'lilies' we grow here at present are Hemerocalis, and they aren't true lilies. I was going to post one today, but the photos I'd sorted out seem to be missing, so here instead is the last picture I'll post of Marwood Hill Gardens.

That's good news re your hedgerow Dusty. It'll soon be September and you can get cracked on eh
Losing lovely long posts is a pain in the posteribum, I can empathise. What do you do in those fields that you don't want thistles/ragwort? Have you animals?
Another cracking pic. Don't think I'd fit that in my garden, sadly

Just catching up with the post, some lovely pics of course, I like the glads, but that's another one I plant and never see againGood news on the hedge Dusty, BTW there is a new button, "Save Draft" which I've taken to using since I lost a few posts, seems to allow flitting around as well, with your new comment at the bottom of previous postsGorseB, not sure of my lilies, I know there are two types, one lot has scent, other lot doesn't. Mine are in the scented pile, and look a lot like your ones, except my pot is larger. Sounds like your mystery toms could be a keeper if they self sow & just get on with itTaff, ooh, ripe toms, more envyI spotted a cuc yesterday, amazing to me, could it be I will have one of my own grown? My recent sowing of LG lettuce have been noshed by slugs, they seem to have missed a patch so could be they'll be spared because I supplied more blue slug sweets to the areaSun's out and once it warms up a bit I'll get out & plant the boysenberry, rain due at the weekend so should help get it settled inI was listening to recent news about heat and war, gloom everywhere
, I won't bother listing the problems but upshot is get planning & planting for next year.

My toms seem too big to be cherries, but that’s what I was told they were (unknown variety at the moment but I could probably find out).
So pleased to hear about the hedge, Dusty. One less thing to lose sleep over. Fingers crossed for the planning.
Well done on the cucumber, Farway (even if it is the food of the devil).
My ridiculous looking tomato plant, post haircut. I hope I haven’t overdone it... 😳

Yes, good news that we can actually have the driveway our deeds entitle us to, albeit under the strange assumption of the planning officer that our garden isn't a garden!I found the 'Save Draft' button this morning. Not sure when it got there, but checked, and as you say, it allows flitting about too.Not all my quotes have met with approval from management. That one's safe enough, I think.
I remember coming across it as a teenager and wondering what it meant. Now I know!
I agree '24 looks like it may be tougher. The gloom has been with us now since the end of '19 and shows no sign of abating. Look at any mainstream source and it's all worrisome stuff and nonsense, even the ads. Doing something positive, like basic prepping, laying in plenty of winter fuel and growing more veg is all a great antidote.A good local network is also vital; hence why we try not to antagonise the neighbours!

I’m keeping all the hardcore bags to try and growi veg etc in next year (stop laughing at the back!) As for neighbours - I couldn’t possibly comment
/me presses “save draft” while she go gets an almost relevant picture…Possibly the best pic I’ll ever put up, and it’s not even mine

And I wouldn’t worry about your toms pp. That’s practically what Ziggy’s looked like and his were fineI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.2

I just had an email through from T&M offering snowdrops. Thought I'd ask - when exactly are we supposed to plant spring bulbs?
I'm considering snow drops, bluebells, snakes heads and those honey garlic plants Dusty mentioned a couple of months ago (if I can find them).I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.1
