Awful weather - typical Brits talk

The hurricane has now moved on, my posh dahlia has taken a battering, it's looking quite cheapskate now, but I'm hoping it will regain it's posh ness & stature once the sun gets backThe lilies are fine, they were my main concern, but they are now opening up and all being well will be really open any day nowI was hoping to feed the pots today but still windy & cool, so I'll give it a few hours to see if it warms up a bitIf it warms up, I'm going to try & get one of the fresh Merton blackberry shoots into a pot to tip root, and inspect the likely spot for my on the way BoysenberryLove the mulberry AR, there was one near me, but the owners removed it, I think because it dropped the very staining fruit onto the fancy paving belowGorseB, now that hydrangea seemanii seems underwhelming, especially after a seven-year wait, not in same league but reminds me of my wrongly labelled pear, wait years for it to fruit only to find it's not what was on the tin
.
Ordered some fleece to protect my blackberry from the birds this year, arrives today, if it is OK I may get some more to wrap around my outdoor tomsTried for photo of my runners, but too windy to maintain camera focus, so gave up, however I did get one of newly opened buddleia, grown years back from one of my "car park cuttings". This one is courtesy of the Co-op, the sort of divi that keeps on giving

I agree about the weather app, it's definitely the most reliable around here. The biggest problem here is that the closest weather monitoring station is about 5 miles away and on the coast; so they get the broad strokes right but not always the detail thanks to the microclimate.
Today they've said the bit of rain we had first thing will be it until tomorrow morning, so I'm risking putting some laundry out. Might not get hot today, but it'll have a blow at least
My strawberries lately have been being a bit munched by something before they're properly ripe. I've had a poke around and can't see any slugs hiding anywhere... any advice?I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.4 -
I love buddleia. I have a deep purple one from a local seaside walk. They've self seeded into multiple colours and it took ages to select one for colour and scent. Then spot it's location waiting for autumn cuttings.
It's currently suffering in a pot.
Those are unusual leaves for an hydrangea Gorse. Pretty flowers though.
There were 2 beauties by the community centre behind me. The groundsmen managed to kill one but the other has eventually come through. I must nip up for cuttings before that succumbs too.
I'd forgotten about Dustys marquee! Heck, I hope he and the tent are still standing after yesterdays weather.
Today predicted 2 brief showers and no wind. Yesterday they said thunder and yellow wind warning. Thinko it may be time to go back to pinning seaweed outside the window.
Or the Cornish weather stone

No, we survived, and so did the marquee, gazebo thing, and tent. True it was gusty and rained for about 30% of the time in quick bursts, but we had 40 people, and they even managed to remember to bring food & chairs. It's true, only an intrepid few had a real look around on the paths I'd cut, but that can be for another year.We once tasted black mulberries, at Malmesbury Abbey, I think. Then we were told off by the church warden, who said they all belonged to God. I replied to the effect I'd heard God was OK with sharing the fruits of the earth with mankind, or something like that. They were very juicy, and God had let many of them spoil, as they'd fallen to be trodden into the pathways. To stay topical, I'll add that next door to the Malmesbury Abbey is the Abbey House and its gardens, created and once tended by a nudist couple, the Pollards, who were known as The Naked Gardeners. It has now fallen into American hands, but it seems to still be a place worth visiting - maybe 4 stars now rather than 5.Here's one I shot earlier.....like around 15 years ago

I love that weather stone. Years ago the reason for it being gone was not "tornado" but a nawty word that referenced African persons...
I'll try the youtube thing. Do I have to have an account to do it? I'll check it out tonight. We're off to himself's less horrible sisters for xmas lunch today. MiL isn't expected to last that long now so it's been decided to bring it forward. Yeah.
I do like the look of buddleia, the flowers are an attractive cone shape. Something different to look at
I can't help with your strawbs Arb, except to suggest either mice or birds, depending on the state of the nibblings. Something's eating the whole fruit on one of my plants - mice? - but just the little sacs and leaving the central white cone on another - birds? Neither are waiting for them to fully ripen either *shrug*I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4 -
Sorry to hear about the MiL and I hope you all have the chance to make some good memories while you can.
If you have an account to watch youtube vids then you can upload - here's the guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9Dk6wMc8UM&t=2sI'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.4 -
I was hoping to regenerate my strawberries this year but it looks like they may have a virus
I'll leave them a little longer as they've been hit by every sort of bad weather and see what happens. Don't fancy buying new. Expensive and pathetic imo.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

MiLs may be a pain when they interfere where they shouldn't, but without them.......The buddleia I'm seeing in several places around Rosemoor is this one, which looks good:Fell out of favour for a while, like me and MiL. Now back in favour, apparently!

There's one I follow, Trash Nothing, son of Freegle. not selling but giving or asking, always FB of courseDusty, glad the "do" went well, and love that buddleia. I'm going to try & root some Buzz cuttings this year, now it has recovered from vine weevilsStill windy, and now my eyes are itching, maybe hay fever? Anyway, zero gardening unless the arrival of the horticultural fleece counts
