It's been so wet here the seagulls were 'puddling' in the grass for worms!
I've only seen swans do it in shallow water before.
That's interesting.  I think that for seagulls this is a learned behaviour.  By mimicking rain, they bring the worms to the surface.  They started to do it around here a few years ago and it is now very common - and not just in wet weather.  I recently saw one of this year's seagull chicks doing it on an urban road-side verge in front of the chip-shop, as if the chick had already made the associations that chip-shop=food and puddling-on-verge=food, therefore puddling-outside-chip-shop must = food!
  • Yup, the seagulls around here do it too, mostly appears to be the juvenile ones as i see their speckled markings.

A real mixed day here, all 4 seasons so far !

If we see any gulls here, we know things are pretty bad on the coast!  :o
Sheep have gone to pastures new and the freezer is groaning under the weight of the payment. :)
Sunshine and showers, so it's back to windows and gutters now.... :/

What do you expect? What height are you there; about 300m give or take a foot? :o
My parents bought a place on Exmoor at 250m. Shortly after, I moved out!! :D
We're at 140m here. A bit higher than I'd like, but we seem to escape most of the stuff that hits the moors. Not as equable as Taunton Deane, but OK in these days of climate warming. B)

Errrr, no D, definitely nowhere near 300m 🤔

Just checked on an elevation finder site ...... we're very low indeed here.

Oh, apologies, I thought you were at least up to the ankles in the foothills. :|
Ah, well, it'll be the maritime influence then...you can't win! :D
Still mild, sunny and a little breezy here. Nice enough for me to get wet cleaning the fascias and not to care.
Shortest day tomorrow, yippeeeee! After that, everything moves in the right direction. <3

  • Hi all.  No seagulls here or those winds yet C.  Noticed lots of goldfinches about in a large group, or flock, or whatever lol.  Wondering if no one else is feeding them because quite unusual to have that many stopping by in my garden 🐦
Just my opinion, no offence 🐈
