Dreich here too. Himself just said "is it gonna be this miserable all day?" Apparently "only 'til it gets worse in an hour or so" is not an acceptable answer ha ha!
We're only a few hundred yards away from a church and the bells are ringing goodo right now. I'm not a religious person, but church bells ringing out on a Sunday morning is just right, you know? The Irish poet Brendan Behan became an alcoholic at the age of eight.3 -
We have had a mainly golden and sunny day which I spent walking and admiring the autumnal leaves. I was just taking this photo of fallen oranges and the hosta leaves when the person on the other side of the tree amused me by stating confidently to their companions that the fallen fruit were lemons and inedible. I nobly resisted the urge to correct them.
I spotted a jay burying acorns in one of the flowerbeds but couldn't get close enough for a good photo so I'll try again another day. As the bird flew away its cry reminded me of a horrible football rattle one of my brothers had as a child but I do like them even so.4 -
Looking a brighter day this morning. Sadly, the lovely orange Bishop's Children dahlia has been beaten to death by yesterday's rain, I may take a photo just as an example, not sure any more buds will flower seeing it's nearly November, but it's something to look forward to next year now I know at least one of the seedlings came goodWell done GF resisting corrective urge, I have sometimes piped up when there's been a question, "what's that?" Etc and info is usually well received, at least no one has yet told me keep my nose outEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens1

Love that wiggly knotty tree GF 😊
Looks like a brighter day here too, the sun’s just trying to come out now. Good job too cos I’ve had my bedding on the line for the last 3 hours! The Irish poet Brendan Behan became an alcoholic at the age of eight.1 -
Sunny morning here, which means I've spotted my next task of clearing up the conservatory now the tomato plants are dying or fig shedding its leaves. I'll wait for a warmer day though because it can get chilly at timesSpotted one ripe fig in the garden, which i may sample later, and my pot grown Pinova apple tree is at last showing a decent sized crop, it's on it's the third year now, and I've had very mixed results in past years which I put down to hot & dry summers and young tree. They are not ripe yet, still not parting from the tree fingers are crossed the mild weather continues to ripen themEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens1

Fingers crossed for your fig tree Farway. If you ever end up with a glut I'm right here
Lovely and sunny here too. I've a good load of washing on the line but the breeze is dropping.
Nothing exciting garden wise to report. I used an app to ID some plants and it said one of them is JKW! I don't think it is - my neighbour says this house was owned by the guy who ran the local Chrysanth Society and that that plant has been there for years. She doesn't know what it is but it's really slow growing. *phew*
Oh and some bird news (I'll say this quick before Woolsery comes back). My pair long tailed tits are now a coupla dozen ish, and I've spotted a few blue tits too! Very happy and chirrupy and summeryThe Irish poet Brendan Behan became an alcoholic at the age of eight.1 -
Well I've been awol because the weather has been lovely here. Too nice to be at home so I've been wandering the beaches and moors with my camera and having a wonderful time. The garden needs quite some attention but with rain at night and the cool it's been very wet and long shadows so not great for gardening. I have sorted out remants of plant cuttings, cleaned seed pots and trays so it's sorted, just waiting for me to plant the last. The tomatoes are still producing but signs of ending with yellowing foliage. They have mostly split with some heavy downpours so soup and sauces stacking up in the freezer. The roses have started blooming again! Here's a photo of a rescue. It's doing ok but has never been strong so is tucked in a corner and is delicately scented. Quite delicious. About 3ft high and surviving on a couple of stems. I've got the name somewhere .........

What a lovely rose 2P, the foliage looks reddish as well, is it or just the lighting of the photo? Good to hear your garden is retuning to normal after the summer, not sorted mine yet but DD has promised to come over one day & do the heavy stuff for me, not holding my breath though, she's on holiday in Portugal right now, far better for her than mowing my grassA sunny day here, envy you a bit 2P wandering beaches etc with camera, if I were fit enough I'd be out there doing the same, so I say enjoy it while you're able to take advantage of itEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens1

Thank you Farway. The leaves are a very dark green with burgundy veins and stem. Not bad for£2. It's by a seat so I can keep an eye on it never quite got sturdy.
The same applies to a Dublin Bay that was rescued. That's coming on but just shows how careful you need to be to check roots if you're paying full price.
Yes, even the new Jingle Bells has survived the drought and is flowering. Seems something with jaws likes the flowers. It's just all been left alone and fed.
Interesting that the peat free compost is coming in very expensive and the pots I did with it aren't so flourishing. I can still get the old bigger bags with a drive. Another excuse for a visit and an excellent cheese scone
Indeed I'm enjoying getting out despite disapproval by some who think I should be sorting the house out. I did clean the gutters yesterday evening. Does that count as working in the garden?
Rain overnight again, clloudy and windy so I may just tootle over to an historical photo exhibition.
Glad your not too near. Your photos are amazing. It would put me off.
I may post some weather ones when on my laptop to keep in theme.viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on
