c. -5 morning and evening, but sunny all day and no wind, with temperatures up and quite pleasant out in early pm... But cold enough not to encourage taking phone out for more pics, so this one will have to do...

Morning all - search New Year New You  

Aye it is warm at work 2p, only 32' though. BBM is a bit worried about the gas bill - I said have you tried telling people to wear something more substantial than summer clothes in January to see if that helps? He looked at me like I'd said I'm only speaking Urdu today *shrug* 
I knocked on The Oracle's door last night to see about some Snowfire again, she said - "if you need to borrow it twice you need to buy one." Not Very Christian imo. 

Booo to your power cut but yaay for your pics Dusty! Jeez they're good. I love the colours in the first one, and look at the detail on the close-up moon Why haven't they fixed the crying emoji yet..? :'( Maybe we should rename this place Baby Shampoo - no more tears ha haa!  

Chrissy cake is probably like honey Farway, if you left it be it'd never go off. Himself thought 4 would get him 'til Easter when a next batch of sugary junk seasonal food hits the shops. The irony is he's not even here to eat it, he's down your neck of the woods in that salty place again.

How many pics are we having per page on our calendar? Cos I think Less’s wants to be on there too A lovely thing about all these moon pics is the perfect calm you can feel on them. Lovely. 

Did we all watch Only Connect last night then? Anyone who did would have got at least one right - honi swanky malyponze was one of the answers And I enjoyed your hedgehog thing 2p, who knew they were such dirty little rutters

OT well it's cold out there still. Depending how much you're allowed to drink at work it's either -3/-6 or -5/-10. Actually I think the drunkards have this one right for it doesn't feel like -10 to me. Another dry sunny day though with either some or no snow or rain this evening, possibly.

We were promised warmer temperatures today but woke to -2 and heavy frost! House with heating was only 14c 😕
They are still saying southerly breeze a 4c but no sign of either yet.

So no gardening or garage clearing today. Just keeping warm, probably work at the library for some of the time. Probably tackle the huge pile of ironing as that's warming.

I did notice the garden looked cheerful yesterday with the coloured pots, bench and flowers out front so I think I'm going to set about putting the same out the back and buck that up a bit. But not till it's warm enough to swan around 🙂

Frosty again, but not as hard as it was, and no more snow, so that's our snow over for the year

Seems power cuts are all the rage, those who fancy conspiracies may join some dots of cold, still air, windmills, all electric houses, heat pumps, EV charging etc

I have ordered some bird food, some from Up River and some with my Asda delivery tomorrow.

This will ensure all frost & snow vanishes instantly once I have food available for starving birds

My pots of flowers at the front are looking very bedraggled & droopy, not sure if frost has done for them or just frozen roots.

They are hardy, foxgloves, honesty etc so hope it's just frozen roots. Find out come the thaw by the weekend

I had to look Snowfire up, looks like I should have found it sooner. I think a blend of Snowfire & Tiger Balm would solve a lot of problems

No gardening, but I have proper seed catalogue just arrived, Brown's, nothing I can't see on line, but flicking through pages seems much better at times, with cuppa & a LO mince pie to hand

You don't want to apologise for pictures like that, Less. Lovely colours!    And, yes to the calmness too, Bluey.

Our power returned quickly, thanks, Farway and 2p. Cuts aren't unusual here, but bearing in mind problems elsewhere, especially on the continent, it's wise to be prepared for longer outages. We won't starve or freeze if the grid goes down, but with multiple fridges and freezers, it had better stay cold outside while the leccy's off!  The answer, short term, is a probably a Jackery, (or similar) but I'd prefer to go solar panels and household battery. That'll never pay for itself in current conditions, (see what I did there!  ) but perhaps those may change. 

Our difficulty here this week, has been lack of gritting. It seems they decided to re-route the bus, so didn't bother gritting our hill on Monday. It was an interesting trip down there this morning, with the ABS earning its keep. By the time we reached the river, it was almost a case of IBS too!   

Luckily, the far hill was better, so we made it out of there and set the compass for Barney Rubble, only to hear on Radio Devon they'd just closed our hill, as it was considered dangerous.   The main road wasn't much better, which is terrible, considering it's a major route, albeit a quieter one. It seems  there's a lack of staff, machinery or willpower, if a few cm of snow is too much to cope with. Most of it was actually hail, which froze in the early hours and stayed like a tough crust.

Anyway, we're all stocked-up again. So, with a full fridge and Farway's bird seed order, surely we've put a hex on this approaching storm Goretti, at least so far as the south's concerned. I sure hope so, 'cos it's due to arrive with our log delivery on Thursday.  :'(  Still broken crying emoji.

Well, I'd forgotten (again!) what it means, so had to do some gargling and this is what popped up    

My mind is now boggling with the idea that Gargle AI is visiting the forum and mining our chats, not least Farway's collaborations with ChatGP... no wonder AI is hallucinating... (I thought I was when I read the above...)

OT - above freezing today, with snow beginning to melt, encouraged by rain this afternoon! But more snow on its way...

I don't know whether I'm a bit impressed or a bit freaked out with your gargled () AI thing Less I might be the only one who's saying it now, but I got it from Daddy and he got it from Rigsby on Rising Damp. It deffo used to be a thing. It translates as - Shame to him who thinks evil of it - roughly, perhaps. The people who lived across the road from us (Cockney Rebel and his Moll) used to say it too. Mind those people are all gone now so maybe it is only me saying it...

OT Well we've climbed above freezing today, they say, but it doesn't feel like it out there yet. The imbibers says it's 2/-2 and the sobers reckon 1/-6. I think the sobers have it this morning. Windy to come though, perhaps. I hope you suvveners aren't too battered by Goretti... looks like a right filthy swirling mess on the drunkards app, but hopefully they're wrong. Again.

My sleep is going 8hrs now thanks Bluey. But then Boyo seems not to be leaving the house for the last 3 days. It's totally random which is why I can't learn to sleep through it.
I also miss a bit of the day so it can't go on and I'm blowed if I going to bed at 8.30pm like they do.

Less that's scary.

Dusty's hill reminds me that the Highland cows on the moor get the lids of the salt boxes and eat the lot !
So mo going over there in snow and ice.

I've got Snowfire cold cream in a tin for chapped lips. It's brilliant stuff but you can't buy it anymore.

So it was +2c this morning. Felt lovely and warm after the last spell. They've promised 6 or 7 but that hasn't turned up yet.
Forgotten what it's like getting out and about.

Doubt there's gardening today. Cold bit of a breeze, rained a bit last night.
Blackie has eaten the mealworms and had a drink at the pond. Found the fatblock gone last night and the cage on the grass. Possibly a seagull so out in the cold and dark securing it. We'll see.

Almost forgotten what it's like to plan a day.

Blue sky & sunshine, the frost has gone. 

As predicted, now my bird food has arrived the blighters have the whole world to find food in.

The fat-filled bamboo from Up River arrived yesterday afternoon. I put it out right away, and blow me, my Robin came down right after to inspect. 

Failed inspection  , he turned his beak up at the thought of hard work getting some bits out, so flew orf.

The half coco nuts arrived this morning form Asda, not out yet

I saw a squadron of blue chests [MSE profanity avoidance] flyby the bamboo thingy, it is, at least, under surveillance

That Gargle AI finding us is spooky Less, have I let a Trojan horse in?

Slightly OT involving AI, head honcho at Microsoft has triggered the Streisand effect, he was moaning about AI generated content being referred to as AI Slop, 'cos MS has gone AI with it's web stuff. 

Now naughty folk call his firm Microslop. 

No gardening, not only cold but now it's damp. Good news is my limp flowers at the front have perked up, so seems it was just the frost making them droop

At least the hard frosts should have triggered the fruit buds, vernalisation something?

The new storm, Goretti, seems just wet & very windy for me, but from what I heard it won't take much to change that to snow
