Never managed any apple pruning, back is a bit too delicate to risk it today, just have to do some proxy gardening using Beech GI love the buttercup field 2P, if I had acres I'd let a few go like that, and another would be Snake's Head Frit.Dustyevsky said:Farway said:Wheelie bins, yes, I'll finish up with four as well, don't know colour of the food one yet.I don't think they'll all be wheelies, judging by how our council do it. The food waste is a lidded bin of about 5litres capacity, emptied weekly. Any longer in summer. and it would be maggot territory. We have 3 large trugs with loose lids for plastic, glass, cardboard, paper, metal, batteries, small electricals, and clothing. There are allowable combinations of the above. These go out bi-weekly.Finally, there's non-recyclable waste in a wheelie bin, emptied only once every 3 weeks. Some people apparently need 2 of these, and others 3. Our nearest neighbour has 3, despite burning all their paper, card, and plastics in one of those dustbin style incinerators. Well, it's a 50m walk with the non-wheeled trugs to the collection point!Which reminds me....I'm still trying to mend our sack truck. SiL decided to re-inflate the tyres. There was a loud bang!
Investigation revealed he got his psi and bars somewhat confused.
Hope sack truck get pumped up eventually, I assume spare tyres are available, at eye watering prices.Hard bit may be fitting them without “proper” equipment, stout boots, washing up liquid, big feet & rubber mallet?Just rechecked council food waste blurb, seems we will get a “kitchen caddy” to trip over, plus a 23 Litre outdoor bin.Which is handy because, the River shop sells bio liners for them.Glass we have an open small boxAll our other bins are wheelie. The bin men usually tip the glass boxes from neighbouring houses into a wheelie bin & trundle that to lorry. I expect the same will happen with food waste. With fingers crossed they do not select my wheelie for food waste trundling.Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens7 -
They keep the glass one open so everyone knows how much alcohol you drink 😉

We have an inside food caddy which they provide compostable bags, we then put that bag in the green wheelie with the garden waste.blue bin is paper and card , brown is plastic and glass, black is general waste all emptied on rota,
Yesterday turned out nice, cut the geraniums back, and took another big branch of the forsythia. Garage is getting full , garden waste next week, hoping neighbours have some bin space. I needed to water tubs even though we had drizzle it wasn’t enough to wet them.
Great butterfly pics don’t think I’ve seen those before. That lily is very yellow Dusty! Farway hope the back is better.
I’ve had a terrible nights sleep ,awake round the clock. Into work now ,going to be warm again they say.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.8 -
Gawd you're preaching to the choir re missing your dog 2p. As well as nana-bums Ben would wait for the last slurp of tea from my cup. I ended up buying a pint mug so he had a goodly share and could get his tongue down to the bottom of it. I hardly lasted any time at all before I had to bin that mug, it was agony every time I looked down and he wasn't there for a drink
A field full of buttercups are the perfect antidote to misery
Anonymous Dog will be great for vitamins eh gbKongs are a brilliant invention, I hope they made plenty of money from it before the imposters came out. Also, rereading your post I can honestly say he eats better then I do ha haa!
I don't remember food collections for pigs Farway but I know a fella who's made a fortune doing it now. He started by collecting food waste from chip shops/cafes/restaurants etc for his pigs (pig farmer). Then when one of those chips shops came up for sale he bought it, then he opened another one, then 2 more, and a deli/cafe in Posh Town. All the waste circles through his pigs. You want to see the spot he lives in - one of his outhouses would do for a Rottery AcresLovely fella with it though, good fun to go drinking with
Anyway. Good to hear puppy isn't a bit bothered by Young Love upheaval
The liners for the food waste bin - check your council doesn't give them away. I collect ours from the library, you can take 2 rolls for free
Dusty I hope the hunt for sack truck wheels is more successful than my hunt for a wheelbarrow wheel! Imagine needing 3 landfill binsPeople that burn plastic and the wrong cardboard shot be shot. Actually the neighbours should allowed to shoot them cos they're the ones suffering the fumes. Ask me how I know  Thanks for the pic of the Zantedeschia btw. I know I've had one in the past because I'm still reusing the pot but I don't remember ever having a flower like that
Funny how all our bins are different wort. Here we have 3 bins. Brown for garden + kitchen waste, blue is all recyclables, green is landfill. They gave out little caddies for the food waste but mine eventually died on me so I bought a new sagey green one from Dunelm. Good luck at work today, it's always a long hard day when you've had no sleep
OT it did cheer up yesterday but that humidity took long enough to lift. The sun almost came out in the afternoon and everything. Warm and sunny too warm today, they say. They could well be right, you can feel it coming alreadyDomNon today but I'm not hanging about with it cos I want to be out. I'm not spending my day off cleaning and tidying any more, now I realise the value of them with not having them all the time. So quick DomNon then up to mum+dad (might take them some lillies if I can find nice ones) and then drop in on Posh Friend cos I've not seen her for a while. I was thinking of going to the beach but the schools here have broken up now so it'll be heaving. 14'c out there now with a high of 24' to come, and wall to wall sunshine
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.8 -
Nice outside - mist first thing (cats were up early), and condensation on the outside of the windows. Nice early walk too.YBE - Stinky eats better than me, and you can tell! I clearly need a personal chef controlling my food intake!8

Well you look alright from here gb 😊
Just popped in to share this while it’s still relevant -Also, here’s my bird-sown sunflower just testing the world before going for it/sodding off Norf -I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.7 -
Another hot day....... Would normally be a nice thing but the continuous dry , too hot to sit in and everybody out is becoming a bit of a trial.
At least I know my spring bulbs I potted up and left in a rain shadow should be well ripened. If something hasn't eaten them.
I guess it might be an opportunity to buy more plants ...... But with garden centres having taken over there's not much good or interesting to be taken.
Even the moorland is reluctant. Bell heather is out but there isn't the glorious colour that's usual and people aren't out walking. Too hot.
Bluey, my Ben was a tea drinker too. Walk, tea rooms for tea and cake and some in a saucer for him. Last bit of cake 😉
I did quite enjoy getting the whole cake to myself without being constantly supervised.
Wwort I hope the day goes easy on you. Tough when you're not up to it. I can still remember that.
Green bee, oh the pleasure of condensation on the windows. Not that I say that in winter.
How's the back now Farway? Does the heat not help at all? Or does that just make you do too much?

Dull and humid, no rain forecast so out feed & watering the pots at the front first thingMy early foxglove looks like it will be white or creamy, buds showing colour and expect fully opening early next weekOne of my dwarf dahlias, from seed, has a flower just opening, it's a right poor effort, a tomato flower is larger !I'll name it Farway's Flaming FailurePerhaps subsequent flowers will be better, don't some flowers have manky flowers first, sort of trial runs ?To add more insults to injury, my courgettes have got soggy ends, far removed from Dusty's sturdy yellow globestwopenny said:How's the back now Farway? Hello everyone,
It has taken me all week but I have finally caught up on over 150 posts. Real life has got in the way of participating on here. Gosh I've missed you all.
We've had rain, sun and fog over the the couple of weeks I've been AWOL - my grass hasn't been cut and you can see where Rome0 has fertilised various patches! My privet is in desperate need of a trim - the guy who cuts my neighbour's side has reduced the height about a foot from the top at my request so it feels like it's going to be easier to manage.
The brambles have started to ripen here so I have been collecting bags full whilst out on my morning walk and making jam! I've had trouble getting it to set but it tastes delicious so my friends have forgiven me!
I've been loving the pics and tales of weddings, stinky dogs, lemon tops, veggie produce and all round loveliness in this area of the forum; it's been great to read and recharge.
I am hopeful I'll get some actual work done in my garden this weekend and I'm going to a local Open Gardens event in a village I've never been to before so I am excited about that #middleagedfun
OT it is sunny here highs of 24' forecast.
Right I'm going to have a catch up on here and make a plan for the weekend.
Take good care everyone
