Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Dogs eating peaches is annoying. Mine used to put both paws round a strawberry to popp it though the netting 🫤
Less I'll post a photo of a lawn that's planted with 'weeds' and it looks lovely. Got to attach camera to laptop so it may be a bit.
Nice bowl of cherries 🙂 I've found that currens will eventually ripen after picking in a bowl with ripe ones.
Poppy, I see your problem. Could you not throw lots of poppy, cornflower seeds in there to make it a wildflower area? Less trouble.
Farway, thanks for the tip. I think I'm going to have to go down that route.
Beans planted at last, just in time for the slugs to come out with the showers tonight
Photo of the poppies that have come with me for decades. They used to be singles. Not sure what happened .
Includes one of the many tomato plants that have grown themselves. Don't know why I bother with pots and compost 🫤
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Not me with the dog , just a cat that thinks he’s a dog. But hoping his Op goes well.
2p I’ve never seen poppies like that before, I want those 😍
YBE finally got some rain yesterday but still hot over here. Having said that today is overcast and very windy but it’s early yet. Work is cool until you go for breaks when the catering unit is a like an oven think metal roof and no air con 😅
Last night was terrible couldn’t sleep went to bed at 10 and watched the clock till past 1.30 the woke at 3.30 to bird song and cat crying to come in. Going to work now hope I can get some rest tonight .
Pp what’s the plan for the problem area?
Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.7 -
Nice to know I don’t need to confirm I’m a hooman anymore, the matrix has decided to just trust me
Well I didn’t get fatally fried to death in my bed last night so I spose it’s right.
I hope Anonymous Dog’s reduction goes well today gbAre you all ready with ice packs and old towels to wrap them in?
Did you have a relaxing Sunday 2p? You’ve reminded me I missed BG on Friday…I’ll catch-up up tonight.
Dusty shame on you putting the ferrnerr to work in all that heatand not a bit of Elfin Safety in sight! "Sold to a developer" ha haa say no more!
Climacteric, that's a new word on me Farway. I didn't realise chatgpt was quite so ...chatty... No wonder it's harder for teachers to spot cheatin' yoofs, that's almost 'real'. You beat me to it on the clematis, one of mine's is out and it's lovely. No scent (I don't think) and the petals are a bit crinkly. I'll go get a pic.
I don't know how you got smut outta foxglove ppOh wait, anyone else remember "no glove no love"? Your problem area... I think I'd leave it while it flowered and looked pretty, then when it was about to go to seed I'd be in there in my gloves ripping the beggars out by the handfull. Either that or cover the whole area in black weedproof sheeting, and start again on top of it. (Tatties are looking well btw
)
Blackberry and apple tree is also very pleasing LessAll you people with cherries and my pair of trees couldn't even ersed to flower
Dogs pinching peaches made me giggle HD, but what about the stonesI had a dog that liked apples - he'd lay with one between his paws and chew round it like a corn-on-the-cob
Jeez I miss that boy.
Popping strawbs through the netting 2pThey're so smart sometimes aren't they. Your poppies are fab! I've never seen them that full of petals before. Are they interbreeding and producing new breeds of themselves or something? Very attractive colour they are, I could stick swathes of them
Hopefully the new cool will make work easier today wort. I kinda know what you mean about working in an oven - well himself does. When he's not on site he's in an old aircraft hangarSome parts of Elfin Safety are optional sometimes it seems
OT nicer here this morning.12'c and breezy says my phone, which feels right. It was hardly dry at all yesterday, we had shower after shower after shower. So that's the garden watered and the place is hopefully a bit happier. Today is also dry, they say, and only up to 18'c, possibly.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.7 -
Clematises (didn’t realise another one had come out).First one’s about the size of my palm, second one’s are only diddyI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.8

No time today.....blimmin' builder has decided to visit us to do the stuff he should have done last autumn.
Perhaps this is a proper sign of the recession to come?
Back later, perhaps, but in the meantime, here's a picture of two plants having a fight...."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity8 -
Another early riser here, same as the rest of you, must have seen every hour in awake last night, I finally gave up & got up at five.Out and emergency watering the Morries perennials at the front by six. I noticed they were drooping in the heat yesterday, not surprising because only been planted about a week, so basically still in pots.LessImpecunious said:Was quite surpised when I spotted the actual fruit in the second shot, most of the rest of the tree is only just in flower...The rose is way too high and vigorous to consider clipping - it's a hack-back after flowering where it's trying to invade paths (and now apple trees
)
Farway said:twopenny said:As I only had a dozen I've wound the fleece round tight and hope.
Less says they ripen indoors but I read they don't?????Just asked Chatgpt about this, and it saysThe difference in ripening behavior between cherries and apples comes down to whether the fruit is climacteric or non-climacteric."Climacteric fruits (like apples, bananas, tomatoes) can be picked unripe and still become sweet and soft.
Non-climacteric fruits (like cherries, strawberries, grapes, citrus) must ripen on the plant to reach full flavor and texture"
Let me know if you want a full list of climacteric vs. non-climacteric fruits! Not sure if that last bit was you or ChatGPT Farway - certainly is quite chatty if the latter...It's ChatGPT, very chatty. I suspect if a clever bod one would speak & ask into your phone & it would be like a conversation.Way beyond my needs, but I could see it being handy, wondering around GC, "Oi Chat, is apple [insert name here] any good?Or, "Oi Chat, where can I get a flamethrower"OT, but I was using it for Family History research, seems it will whizz along online records and ferret out ones you never knew existed. Failed to do so for me, but it did offer to write to National Archives.Would you like me to help follow up with the National Archives at Kew or the British Army records at TNA (WO series) as well?Oh Gawd, I've gone down rabbit hole, Chat has written a poem about fruit ripening for me
Here's one verse, before it goes way OTBut cherries hanging on the tree
Are bound to branch and sun,
They will not sweeten once they're free—
Their ripening is done.Back OT, those curly poppies used to pop up in my old garden, stared life as Opium poppies and cross-bred to muddy purple. That were prolific self seeders.PP patch, I think I'd flame throw it and then plant / sow something like daises, or echywahtists if they grow for youToday is easy day, may water using the hose, may also catch up on GW from FridayPic is my front steps, I asked Chat to write a poem about them“Steps with Flowers”
Stone by stone, the path ascends,
With blooms that lean like faithful friends.
Petals nod with every breeze,
Whispering secrets through the leaves. Each step a pause, each step a song,
With flowers blooming all along—
A quiet climb through scent and shade,
Where peace and colour softly fade.

Lots of ice packs and towels here YBE, but he'll have to behave while I'm working. I've already had a photo of him sitting in his kennel looking perfectly happy. They'll let me know when he's in recovery. He has PJs and an inflatable collar, so hopefully he'll be good and back to normal (being chased by the cat) soon. Thankfully he loves it at the vet, and will probably be thoroughly spoilt when he comes round.
I need to make the most of him not being here and get some work done, strawberries picked, peas picked, and sweet potato and butternut squash cooked up for his kongs and lick mats.

Aw, I hope Stinky isn't too sore after his op. I've been cat-sitting my DD's wee kitty and he definitely needs the snip - he walks like John Wayne...
wort, I think incineration is the answer to the problem patch. I honestly can't think what else to do with it.
YBE, I want that area to be a seating area, so I think some decent weed suppressant and either gravel or slate on top. The tatties have looked like that for weeks - they grew like mad initially and then just stopped. Mind you I haven't fed or earthed them up because I didn't want them in the first place this year and kind of resent having to look after them
Gorgeous pic, Dusty, it looks so pretty.
twopenny and YBE, your poppies and clematis look an almost identical colour, sort of mauve I would say. Really nice, I'd have both of them.
I bet the neighbours are envious of your front step, Farway, it looks amazing. Not bad poems either and definitely worrying for teachers and lecturers marking work in the future.
Less, it was the bush reference...
OT - sunshine and showers.'A watched potato will never chit'...8 -
Stinky is feeling sad and wants cuddles. Which isn't really compatible with work and all the other stuff I need to do. He's had lots, but is very clingy. And not keen on his PJs or inflatable doughnut collar. From a quick inspection PP, it looks as if the castration is done internally, so there are still dangly bits... just smaller than they were (I think... it was only a quick look when undoing the PJs so he could go for a wee.7
-
Aww poor little soul 🤕
He's probably more upset about the PJ's and collar than the other.
But they do heal quickly.
I think they just take out what's in the dangly bits. The rest will shrink.
Dusty's gone quiet 😉
Lovely garden Farway. The plants wind themselves beautifully around the steps.
Poppy that idea sounds nice. You're welcome to poppy seeds should you want. The purple would look good against the slate and they are indestructible. Probably easier just to buy some 🙂
Not a lot to report. Grey morning, some brightness this afternoon with a goodly wind. Mostly watering and indoor stuff with table tennis and tea as a reward.
The jasmine has done well this year but the climbing rose has taken a hammering.
Some tidying up needed as you see. Saving lawn mowing either for the wildlife or for neighbours sons nap. I'll let you decide ☺️I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
