Well it can be all the cloudy it likes out there but I'm not going back out 'til the UV drops. I can feel it even in the shade
So Madeira is like the IOW in one respect then wort, v hilly. You've made me fancy it even more now though, but prolly in their wintertime so it's cooler and less humid :fingerscrossed: I love the colour of the chairs in your sitooterie
Which reminds me, I've 2 Beechgroves to catch up on, woohoo!
Did cake work wonders on your lurgy pp? IIRR from my childhood you have to wash it down with ice-cream to make it work properly
Nelson + Whizzley sounds like a good weekend Farway. Next time himself can wangle a friday off work we'll go back down again. I'll let yous know when we get it sorted so you can plan indoor things for it'll surely lash down as soon as we arrive
Here's a few more pics. A swimmysitooterie, and Things You Can Plant Plants In(Not a great pic that cos it was uphill from me, it’s wheelbarrows, orange Henrys, and a loo.)I’ve never seen orange Henrys before.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.7 -
Late to the party.
Our guests have now gone! I've caught-up with the neglected watering, ordered 3 months worth of cat food and stocked-up on heating oil. The latter remains at a 3.5 year low price, but for how much longer?;)
Whipping through the past 24 hours, I spotted a Triphylla hybrid fuchsia among wort's photos, plus two exotic bums, taff had a couple of nice Cistus, (much nicer than cystitis!) and Farway was displaying his plums again. I saw one of my plums had turned reddish today, but it fell off in my hand, so it was unwell, not ripening. :|However....looking along the newly planted toms this evening, a Sungold had turned orange, and that was ripening, not plague. So, toms in June is about to happen, as predicted.Hmmm..I imagined the first would be Cherry Falls, not one of the taller varieties.
I'm definitely not the poster who started the bum thing, but I've an inkling it might have been a poster from north of the border. Wasn't the rear view of a seagull on a roof the first?Anyway, here's one I may not have posted yet. If you've seen it already, I blame my age and the lateness of the hour."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity8 -
Well welcome back all our travellers 😊
Hope you are all refreshed and raring to go.
I've grown small cystis,,, they're just brown twigs in winter which put me off. Pretty though.
Love a bee in a foxglove. I used to paint them on porcelainlace plates so if you see one, that's me😊
Which reminded me mine didn't grow this year except the self seeded one in the gravel that was a lovely yellow but got knocked down by wind and rain .
Finally got the last of the tomato plants in today and another bucket of deadheading.
Still watering pots despite the rain.
Cherries surviving under fleece and almost ripe but it's been a couple of years since I last got to this stage I can't remember what ripe looks like 🤔
Still eating strawberries and the raspberries have ripened too so I should be getting healthy..
Doesn't seem to work on the creaky bits though.
More sunny spells predicted for tomorrow.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

This is the time of year I get jealous of all your fruit, I love berries 😍
YBE the Henry’s made me smile would never have thought of those. The boat is my favorite though. Thanks Dusty for the plant ID. I was blaming Farway for the bums as well!Last bit of washing done and dried yesterday, then a quick tidy up in the garden, mowed and cleared the edges, cut back a climbing hydrangea.
Back to the grindstone today (sigh)Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.7 -
I don't know if it'll help you Dusty (or anyone) but Cissie always says the price of a fill of oil goes up when the nights start noticably changing, and that's the 12th of July. Does peace reign supreme at your place then? Well just long enough to get you back on form and ready to work again eh
Good news re dem yoofs getting their house finally - sorry, I forgot to mention that earlier! Bee Bum in Foxglove is one of my faves... there's something special and different about it, like seeing the moon in the daytime
Boooo to the weather knocking your yellow foxglove 2p. Hopefully it lasted long enough to self-seed?
Back to the grindstone here too wort, I really don't want to go to workThe boat was my fave too, but it was orange Henrys that caught my eye - I've never seen them that colour before. I'd sooner have had orange than red if I knew they existed!
Oops I pressed post instead of save draft
OT nice and cool here at the minute at 14'c and a gentle breeze. I've the whole place wide open to let the cool in before I go to work. It could get up to 25', they say. That's just unnecessary frankly. Another warm yacky night to come too, possiblyLovely low humidity though at 47% this aft.
The strawberry moon was clear as a bell at home apparently but it was late on. Cissie had one more drink to keep her up so she could get out and see it, and then another one more to make her sleepI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.6 -

The strawberry moon was clear as a bell at home apparently but it was late on.In an ordinary world Cissie might be right, but in the years of manufactured madness since 2019 the old rules no longer apply. A couple of missiles up one's Straits of Hormuz, and the price could double overnight! There must be a north/south weather divide at present, as I woke to 8c and a realisation that my wee under desk heater had been purloined for the caravan! We've crept up to about 12c now, but there's no sign of the advertised yellow thing.I hope things improve, because we have the garden outing I chose today, and 30 odd people (some very odd!
) will have 'expectations.' The weather's one thing, but ultimately, it will stand or fall on the quality of the tea and cakes.
In a sense, success doesn't matter; last week, the committee voted to return to the usual venue in '26.
We're a conservative lot, here!
You've reminded me, I saw the strawberry moon. It was late, and the sighting wasn't planned. I was just doing what a man of my age usually has to do at 04.00.Not much else to report in the eerily quiet house this morning, except.......it's back!!!(Unedited photo)Hmmm... Orange Henry. Wasn't he a special edition produced for Ulster? Should really have been called William."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity6 -
Yes we've got a lot of crows around here suddenly causing a disturbance. I'm guessing they are keeping an eye on their youngsters and seeing everything off. Seems to have quietened down now and the little birds are back 🙂
Have a good day all you workers. Almost wish it was me. I've got a lot of confrontations to make in the next couple of days and I'm not looking forward to it so the photos and stories here will keep me sane - perhaps 🥴
Have the idea to get the back lawn mowed today, still have a last bag of manure to spread but not sure weather to put it on the established fruit, shrub area or the compost heap. Not enough room to just tip a pile.
Thoughts?
Anyone been to a lavender farm? I always fancied it but wonder if it's a case of 'ooo that's nice' and then the shop or if there's more to it.
It's a heck of a long drive and planned Abbotsbury house and garden. Dusty?I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Doing well with the plums Farway! I thought of you when I saw some ripe raspberries mashed into the bird betting yesterday at the allotment that I then forgot to pick because I was cream crackered. I did pick some peas though of the ones that struggled ot survive and ate them all raw when I got homecake washed down with ice cream ybe? I had a lovely one once in this country, apple crumble ice cream, proper home made stuff in Lacock, where they filmed some of Downton, was bloody lovely. Your things you can plant plants in was really good, I liked the orange henry too, it would match my front door. I would also say if your house is hot in the upstairs bit when you go to bed and it's too hot, open the attic hatch, the hot air will whoosh up and it'll be cooler in no time. [ Thsi doesn't work if it's 24 degrees at ten o clock like it was here last week and also doesn't work if your attic is proper insulated and done out. Cissie has the right idea re using alcohol to wake up/go to sleepWell done having toms in June Dusty, mine are, the plants that is, about eight inches tall now..2p, I think I have one but it just seems ot be twigs all the time, maybe I'll let it live somewhere else, it's a bit of a boring plant really. I vote for spread round wot you'll be eating, it never goes very far despite looking all big and bulky. For confrontations, stand up and strike a heroic pose before commencement, you'll feel silly for a few secons then you'll feel like you can take on the world. So hold that imaginary sword in the air and take a step as if you were ready to impale someone. So I had a letter from the allotment people saying I had 14 days to sort my plot out, phoned up about it, the guys on holiday, spent two days worrying and getting angry, decided they must have meant a 2 sofa sized area I let the grass grow for wildlife, spent an hour sorting that out because of course it's the most inaccesible bit with odd bits of wood stuck in the ground and lumps of rock etc.. Spoke to the bloke behind me, he told me the bloke next door had also had a letter, he turned up after I'd sorted this patch out, and told me, yes, it was a mistake, it should have been sent to someone else, and they knew they'd sent one by mistake to me, but they didn't send me another one to say ignore that....Two days I was worried about that! Mind you, I did cut down the 5 ft hawthrone tree that was growing next to the fruit cage and injured myself several times trying to get the various little brances out of the mesh...That was one job I was supposed ot do and was putitng off.Weather is dry, sunny, not too warm yet and OH has finished spraying the greenhouse frame black so I can get on with putitng it together...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi7

PS Hope the garden outing goes well Dusty and you aren't in stocks when they get back!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi4
