Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Good morning all, we have had lovely sunny weather this week, yesterday we had the freezing winds with it like everyone else. Today has started sunny but not ventured out yet. They’re a small chance of showers around lunch time which is when I’m meeting my friend hoping to walk to an eaterie not more than 30 min away.
In the garden I’ve done a couple of bits tbh I’m avoiding cutting some things due to the frost forcast. Love that peach blossom Dusty I would grow for that alone.
well done with the Amaryllis Pp.
It wasn’t me with the slate, I’m not so arty 😂
Farway quick work on the seed sowing and growing, hope the frost doesn’t get them, though you aren’t usually as cold down there as up here. I have a rose very small flower tiny thorns that stick to your clothes, I’m not sure if it is a climber or rambler, but I dug it up and put in a pot as I didn’t know where to put it. Now I have 2 !! I must have left a bit in so it’s in that spot and growing like tops in the tub 🤨
Theres blossom on some of the trees round here, My koji noh mai is just starting to blossom, there’s buds on the forsythia, and one tulip is out.

forgot to say, there used to be a program on tv, not sure what it was called I think the presenter was Alys Fowler🤔 she was showing how to grow veg in with your flowers, she wandered round in a floaty dress with her Pre-Raphaelite curls making it look easy. I wished I could do it. Does anyone remember it?Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.8

I remember an Alys Fowler TV series, quick search suggests The Edible Garden, shown c. 2014; bits of it seem to be on YouTube...Enjoying the pics and keeping up with what every one is doing...7

Not many people solved that one!
wort said:Love that peach blossom Dusty I would grow for that alone. The flowers are stunning, but probably don't last long. It was a delightful accident, we caught them just right, before any petals began falling.
I have to remove some rusty hurdles this morning, so need the van to transport them to the yard, and ultimately, the recycle place.Of course, it's just bucketed down, making the grass slippery, ruling the van out for an hour or two.
Right now, we have bright sunshine, and more forecast, but there was an overnight frost, and temperatures today are well down at 7c.Another picture from Clovelly Court. The magnolia flowers I mentioned yesterday were just unfurling. Not sure of the variety. Few labels out of doors. Not buying into it.9 -
Dull, grey & a cold wind. But on the bright side, my T & M offer begonias & rhubarb arrived safely yesterday. It's too cold right now for my old bones to plant the rhubarb, but I will pop it in a pot of damp compost this afternoon to keep it moist.I remember Alys on TV, and used to have a gardening column in some newspaper. Just searched her, there's plenty on YouTube including personal stuff, probably best I do not mention it here.twopenny said:Farway that's very creative. I look forward to the photos. Lots of pea shoots I'm guessing and then the peas.Very few flowers out in south Devon but did find that if you want to really look at something new go on your own. I could have spent ages looking at architecture and boats but we went shoppingDidn't get enough time at Buckfast Abbey which was stunning. I'd recommend going if you're down that way. Didn't get to see the gardens but a lot of the gift shop and cafe and no oportunity to take photos so I guess I'm going to drive down at some point to see both that and Totness.Update on my current pea shoot crop, green shoots now above the compost, but not yet with stalks or unfurled leaves.I'm happy you liked Buckfast, as I said it was a long time back I went, and agree, some touring is best done alone or with like-minded folksI may have said, but years back I went on a coach holiday and was amazed to see people get off the coach in say Bury St Edmund's or Cambridge and just go into Marks' shopping. My dwarf dahlias, sown end Feb, are now showing the tiniest of true leaves. The chillies sown the same time are a no show so far. The chillies are only experiment for me, and cheap on offer seeds, so not too worried if they are a Norwegian variety.pink_poppy said:No little blue pills have been administered
I took this photo yesterday... on closer inspection one stem has two flowers open fully with a third nearly there. The other stem has one flower open and three just thinking about it at the moment. I've had to prop it up against the table because it's a bit wonky (aren't we all)...

Ooh, lovely, Farway ❤️ I came down this morning (after being awake from 2.30-6.30am 😴) to find mine laying on the floor ☹️ no damage and I don’t know if it just fell over of its own accord, or if there was some feline input… 🙄 There’s very little compost on one side of the bulb (and even less now!!) and I think that’s what is causing it to tilt.
I remember the Alys Flower programme. You’ve got me curious about the personal stuff now so might have to have a nosy.
Nice magnolia, Dusty. Btw, I would never have guessed folly swear either.
Hope you don’t get rained on, wort.'A watched potato will never chit'...8 -
Cold again with a tiny Northerly puff of wind that put more chill than expected. Grey but bright. 6c.Wort I think that's the best idea at the moment with the weather the way it is.Ooops Poppy! Hope its all right. I've dropped and knocked many a plant and it's survived. I think it just wakes it up with the shock and thinks 'I'd better get on and grow before something else happens'Dusty I miss my Maganolia Tescoii. It bloomed beautifully in a pot out front for a few years then some bug got at it two years running with the heatwaves and it succumed. The supermarket plants aren't as good in the last couple of years so it never got replaced.Farway people think I haven't got friends because I travel alone. Perhaps I'm weird but I prefer it. I never seem to find someone arty who likes good coffee. Two of my main requisits for a good day. And I don't get to look at passing scenery which is the whole point of travel, because of the chatting.Today was a talk about the coast of Exmoor by a guy that's interesting. Used to work with him 20+ yrs ago and he happened to have then name of a 19c book I haven't been able to locate. What are the odds.Tiniest bit of gardening today was spreading some BFB around as everything seems to need a boost with the ever returning cold weather.I planted 3 potatoes that sprouted in the fridge too. I've been sucessful before. And cutting yet more Broccoli for dinner. It's performing surprisingly well considering some are growing horizontal over the bed thanks to the winds and some Dwarf Kale too.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Twopenny, you’ve reminded me that I need to get some tatties planted.
Frosty start this morning 🥶 There was a red aurora alert last night and it was perfectly clear conditions for it, but unfortunately the moon was just too bright to capture any colour. Blood moon should be visible first thing tomorrow morning (before 7am), so fingers crossed it’s a clear sky for that.

No moon here, just grey sky & a cold wind, good moon reflection there PP.I'll try & get a blood moon, but clear sky could be a problem here, worth having my camera handy thoughCongrats on a crop 2P, good old purple sprouting, maybe being horizontal has frightened it to “Do Something”pink_poppy said:I remember the Alys Flower programme. !
Had some very different YT suggestions appear last night.Talking of which, my T & M blue hyacinths, some have a distinct pink tinge about the flower buds, so I have my doubts. Maybe some have transitioned and now identify as pink?See what happens once you start watching YT.Gardening for today is plant up the T & M begonias, some corms are tiny and some feel a bit squishy, not sure all is as it should be at first glance, I'll find out for certain once I get going. At least, T & M are normally OK with complaints.
