I've just been reading that we had another earthquake here around 3am this morning. I didn't hear/feel anything this time, but I heard the aftershock rumble after 8am, just didn't twig what it was. Eek.'A watched potato will never chit'...7

Hazy sunshine with hard frost this morning, hopefully one of those "It'll turn out nice later" sort of daysNo sign of Planetary parades here, hazy clouds with just one solo planet, no idea which one, and that was allMy daffs have buds showing at last, I was starting to think I had pots of blind ones. Of course all labels lost so no clues what is in which pot.E-mail from the council with collecting details for my two subsidised trees later this month, I'll have to sort out two large tubs to temporarily pot them in for when I get them homeBy sort out I really mean tip out the stagnant rainwater that has collected in themMy back is easing from the weekend, if sun appears properly I may have a prowl around the garden later, those dead fern leaves are not going to shift themselves. The figs are starting to show pointy green shoots at the tips, no fig babes yet thoughPotential invite this Sunday, to DS, no doubt finishing up in Easter tat filled GC café with a cheese scone & cuppa. May even have some plants there, I bet daffs in pots will feature, could even be some old Xmas clear out stuff?Actually reminds me, I'm giving DS a potted & rooted thornless blackberry, if I can find it among the clutter that I call a sheltered spot.He has three fences that are ideal for it, not that he will use those, probably just leave it to grow in a heap and buy frozen berries from TescoHope everyone's bits & pieces are all working todayEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens8

Lovely and warm this morning in the sun, nice and dry after yesterday's downpour, more of the same from me
Whoever lived here years ago had a bit of a trek back to civilisation
As usual not a soul in sight, another 4 miles under the belt today and a week or so of dry weather on the horizon so slowly working towards losing a stone in weight. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces9 -
I can recommend a bland diet for a couple of months LessBut I know 2 people who shifted more than that with walking in a speedy manner.Oooo Poppy, earthquakes! I'll be optimistic and say one is probably related to the other and it will fizzle out.Can understand why you don't do star gazing with the heating centrally located.Farway, I too was emptying out the pots I put randomly last autumn on an 'I'll sort that tomorrow' basis. Also found that I'd put the TaT daffs in mismatching pots - they are supposed to slide into where the geraniums are in summer. Oh well. They are almost out so I'm not fiddling in this weather. There's still a lot of things that need sorting but I did get 4 tubs of 'prunings' down the tip so patting myself on the back. Now I have access to the stuff that's to go to the charity shop. Not buying any supermarket fruit trees this year, still waiting for the last one to show signs of life. It's looking fine but never produced a leaf.I love your pots with handles Arbs
can't afford them with the car change, heating probs etc but may have to get back to you when the bank balance has recovered.
Yes, cold this morning @ 3c with an unpredicted deluge which hasn't dried out. But okish with enough layers. Just grey again.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Farway, my back has been twinging this afternoon too. I had a few days last week where I was hobbling about, it eased off, but it came back again today after I'd been in the garden.
Gorgeous views, lunatic. I bet it was lovely living in that house, even if it was a bit of a trek back to civilisation.
twopenny, I lost a lot of weight and toned up by walking speedily. It was a few years ago, but you've made me think I should get back into doing that. I have the achilles problem now though.
I spent a lovely hour in the garden this afternoon, not really doing much, just despairing looking at things that need doing and listening to two robins serenading each other
This is one of them singing his wee heart out...
A third robin appeared, which caused a bit of chasing around. If you zoom in you can see the three robins (with a photobombing blackbird) in the Rowan tree they all ended up in...
Photobombing Mr Blackbird decided to then pose for me on the fence...
It was actually quite a nice day today, between the showers. It felt nippy though when the sun disappeared.'A watched potato will never chit'...9 -
That's gorgeous Poppy!Isn't it a treatI went for a sit at the beach because I'd done too much and there was a blackbird singing sweetly on a hut. It's a different song to the morning one. Made my day.Bad luck on the achille. Mine took a year to get right and it really hurts.Less, it looks wonderful - just a bit too remote perhaps but great for a short stay to break from the modern world for a whileI went out while waiting for water to boil (sheesh it's cold tonight) but had to go get my camera for the ring around the moon. Never seen it before and some distance from the moonlight. You can only just see it in the photo but quite distinctive in real lifeAnd of course, there were 2 bright planets either side. Quite something!
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

You're mixing me up with Luny (if that is that an appropriate abbreviation?!) 2P - I'm not quite as remote as that...No moon halo here - it's too clear, and I did see the full parade (well, the naked eye bit) tonight - first time I've knowingly seen Saturn8
-
Indeed I did! Sorry about that Less.Lucky you - there was clound around some stars and the moon so I tried but no chance

I couldn't sleep so I've been outside stargazing. I only came back inside because I was getting spooked being outside on my own at silly o'clock in the morning
The moon is really bright considering there's only half of it visible. I didn't see the ring around the moon that twopenny had, but when I first got up and looked out of the window there was definitely an 'aura' around it. I could see Mars, but couldn't identify Saturn, Less. My comedy binoculars that I did actually get for stargazing are in our bedroom and DH is fast asleep so I don't want to risk waking him as he's a light sleeper. Oh well, we've got clear nights forecast for the next two nights so there's still time.
twopenny, I've had the achilles problem for about four years nowI was seeing the hospital podiatrist, but gave up recently because I felt I wasn't getting anywhere with the exercises I was being told to do. I'm usually 'okay' when walking, but it's when I stop, sit down and get up again that the pain is really bad. My DD has started with achilles pain after running (she's training for a marathon and half marathon) and was advised to try CBD balm, so that's something I'm considering, along with the ear wax tiger balm.
Right, time for a milky hot chocolate, see if that helps to make me feel sleepy...'A watched potato will never chit'...7 -
Sorry the aches and pains continue.
Winter makes these things worse, though I'm not complaining about our weather down here, so far. After a bit of enforced rest, my aches and pains have now returned to normal, but Mrs Dusty isn't doing too well.
She hasn't fully recovered from her hamstring injury, and she's currently waiting for more X-rays on a hip that's been playing-up. There's a podiatrist in the pipeline too. Having limped along, physically and figuratively, for some years, I'm beginning to think we may need to consider alternative options for a lifestyle in the next year or two. There's no immediate panic, but I can't see health services coping with the demands likely to be placed on it in the next decade......Mrs D isn't even of pensionable age yet, either!
Although not outdoors as much as usual, I've noticed a change in the bird activity around dawn and dusk, with the blackies, in particular, altering the atmosphere with their songs. It really has felt like spring, although the weekend forecast looks likely to alter the mood a little.I haven't spotted a mate yet for our robin, pp, but it looks as if choices have to be made in your robin picture!
This morning, we have a light frost. Gladys tells me it's OK as her grey hair could do with a few highlights:I asked, "Why so serious?" but she wouldn't say. I think she's miffed she can't join that ladies' cold water swimming group up your way, 2p.What are they called again? Ah, yes, that's right, the Bluetits.
