Oh 2 p sorry to hear you are without heat again, and all the other things piling on. I would stay out in your little car and stare at those stags they are beautiful.
Well done Farway getting out whilst in bendy mode.
I am off for a week now and hoping to get in the garden at some point. Not today as I’m walking into town to an appointment, after I’ve hung out the washing if Ventusky is correct rain is due about 2 pm. Quite dry rest of week if they are right.I have got dry eye and the constant running has made the skin red and sore. It’s been driving me bonkers at work this weekend. Everyone must be hankering for spring as the £1 daffodils at work are flying out. The ones in my garden are a way off yet. And most of my primulas are eaten by the slugs .Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.8 -
Good morning everyone,
Sorry to hear you're still having trouble with your heating 2P - I've got my fingers crossed it gets sorted for you this evening. How on earth did you trap your fingers??? Sounds super painful. I appreciate the risks you take to secure quality pictures for usthe deer look so healthy and I adore the fat pony (that'd be me if I was a pony!!).
I swam on Sunday morning - the sea temp was 5' and the air was 2' - it was freezing but thought I'd share the pic of the sunrise! We managed to turn our faces to try and get out Vit D fixIt was a refreshing start to the day and the energy stayed with me all day.
Thank goodness for your stove PP - I have my fingers crossed the amaryllis come good for you.
You tired me out -Taff with all of your gardening related activity - I haven't done a thing apart from fill up the bird feeders for the last few weeks. I have a growing list though! Sounds like you're licking the allotment into shape. I watch Homestead Rescue - it's a guilty pleasure - and I love the inventive solutions they come up with the grow their food or defend their homes against predators.
Your amaryllis is a stunner Farway - I think the 28th February is a date for celestial manifestations in the sky. I have a note in my diary but not sure where I got the info from!
I like your bus stop pic Dusty - my first thought was that the fancy bus stop was flirting with the rather gormless looking bin. Your beach walk looked amazing. We don't have anything quite so wild and windswept close to us - our coastline is fast eroding so it's rare we get clear blue waters. I love it's ruggedness and raw honesty though.
I was at Mum's yesterday and took these pics especially to share here - the sunrise was really beautiful and the walk i had with Rome0 was long and flat!
I think I'm going to start making lists today - lists of what I need to sort in my garden - I'm hoping to get cracking this weekend by sorting the storage in my garage - I need to re-do everything since I lost the green shed last year, It's fair to say everything was just thrown in there until Spring! Slightly regretting the decision now tbh. At least I have a plan now.....
OT it is cold and bright today a bracing 5' when I took Romeo out for his early morning walk - he's snoozing on the sofa whilst I work!
Have a wonderful day everyone.

Great pics all, and thanks for the explanation of the bus shelter D!I'm in sunny (tho not today!) Wales Poppy - we're on a funny little ridge in between two valleys, which in turn are between two mountain ranges (well, what they call mountains in Wales - which are sometimes what I would call hills, but I digress)... We seem to have our own little microclimate, and temps can be several degrees different/flowering times a week or two later, than villages only a couple of miles away, in the relative lowlands....9

Dull day so far, with hint of sun trying hard.Nice to see you've all been busy, and more photos to admire, and sea swimming this time of year is astounding, I was never keen even mid-August in UK.I found I was better suited to shallow seas, with palm trees on the beach, which I guess would suit 2P right now, perhaps pop your ex trapped finger amongst the ice in your cooling drink?Dusty, those Petasites fragrans you mentioned, I've seen them around here but never knew the name, I just classified them as “a weed” to my shameIn case anyone has missed seeds, T & M have their 89p seeds back, not as cheap as Lidl but maybe something temptingOffer ends midnight, 5th February 2025 or while stocks last. Normal delivery charges apply. Use order code TM_TN5646W..No gardening today, weather and my weekend bends seem to have caught up with my back, not bad but a rest will do no harm

pink_poppy said:AR, did you decide what you're going to grow your tatties in this year?? Sorry, I can't remember if you've already said. I've seen a couple of garden centres advertising seed potatoes, so might have a look in a couple of weeks. I won't be using the plastic hessian sacks I used last year, or if I do it'll only be one plant per sack, not three.
Speaking of which, I was doing so well today... I got my bins out, I managed to clear one of my drains that's been blocked /slow draining for months, I sorted a load of stuff to go to the tip (and booked my dad to take it), and I even got some sticky things off the wall that have been annoying me for yonks - and that's where I messed up. Dropped a big bottle of isopropyl alcohol everywhere! Not a huge issue you'd say, but 'everywhere' includes on one of the trays of my seed potatoes. Does anyone know if they'll be okay...? I immediately washed them/submerged them in clean water and they're currently on a paper towel drying but I'm worried I've killed the eyes
Plus the house STINKS of nail varnish remover and it's too cold to leave the windows open - but at least any bacteria on the surfaces are no moreI'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.8 -
Weather here was dull and rainy this afternoon, I styed mostly in except for some shopping but I did do some Ruth Stout reconnaissance re hay or straw bale usage because I think I might give it a stab for the potatoes this year depending on whether I can find some for sale, and I can transport them.I did look at the leaves of your flowers Dusty and think, they look like nasturtium leaves, but then when I magnified it, realised I was wrong...so I am now better informed about flowersBlimey wm, I want to say well done for braving that temperature but I also want to cringe....omgthat'sway toocold for me!! Farway, I am also in favour of shallow warm seasthe walk looks lovely, especially as they have my favourite things spinning away in them.2p, ouc! for the fingers, that is definitely not a thing which is a good thing.Arb, if they chit, they're fine
you and me both needing a tip run, I can only book me to go though..
I am also looking forward to soting out seeds and seeing what I need want and this year, having splashed out on a book, am determined to fill it in so I can succession sow for a change.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi6 -
Blimey WM! I'm impressed but not enough to do likewise. We have groups here that do that. They keep asking me to join and I keep saying no. My friend also has an inflatable plunge pool in the garden for when the sea is too rough. Reckons it helps her arthritis so Farway - perhaps you're missing a trickMe I went for an indoor swim, very long hot shower and a sauna to build up the heat.Wort dry eye is not nice. Anther friend has that. She uses some eyepad thingys to moisturise, warm, chill the eyes.Taff and Abs, we look forward to all this stuff you'll be doing and keeping the thread relevantLess, your spot sounds perfect.Dusty I love your little bus shelter. Used to be a time when local people did that sort of thing around here to give a little cheerfulness to life. So many people now seem to think only of themselves. Posh house at tv says, carpark for a garden. Wot volunteer for free to do something, far too busy.Heating's on for the moment.

LessImpecunious said:Great pics all, and thanks for the explanation of the bus shelter D!Oh, I much preferred all the answers here to the real one, especially those which saw the shelter and the bin as having characters.
You're lucky; if I'd been teaching you, your homework would have been to write the conversation they might be having!
I can relate to Farway's experience too. For years, I didn't know what those large round leaves were, or when the plant flowered. I began to think it didn't.Respect to WM and her early Sunday dip, which is something I could never do.And although our wild, rugged coast is photogenic in most weathers, I think you've had beautiful, atmospheric results with the wind turbine landscapes.
Like you taff, we had wet and windy weather for much of today. I was happy enough to rest indoors, having perhaps definitely overdone the physical stuff in the previous 3 days.Hope the fingers are OK 2p, and that the plumber maybe helped with diagnosing the CH.. Our window man phoned today and asked if he could visit on Thursday. I'm not sure who he thought I was over a week ago, when he said then he'd be with me by 13.00. Wires crossed, I expect. Here's a close-up of the Petasites. Promise not to mention it again! One benefit of being a 'conspiracy theorist' is having slug pellets that work.8 -
Beautiful leaves Dusty.Textures I'm told but I'm hopeless at that.Just found what I was talking about with the stars. It's the Planetary Parade. Best in 50yrs they say.I have seen Mars, Jupiter and Venus tonight. I must pop out and see if I can spot Saturn.........Not sure if you need binoculars for this. Uranus is there too but you do need to see through something for that.Cloud in the way of Neptune and Uranus. Tried to photo Mars but it wouldn't come out.Loads of info on photographing stars online. By the time I've read them it will be cloudyMy last owl is out there hooting for a mate. The one who had a hiccup in her hoot. Seems practice it's got better but now its a 'hoo' not yet a 'hoo hoo' .Still warm for the moWeather has been bright, dark and wet and this afternoon, brightish. Not really cold out. Up to 9c and a stiff wind this morning bringing the rain.

Beautiful orangey pink sky this morning... rain on the way.
Agreed, where you live sounds lovely, Less.
Gorgeous pics, W_M. I've wanted to wild swim for years, but have never plucked up enough courage. There used to be a group here that I followed on FB but they seem to have disappeared. I need to work on my DH to see if I can persuade him - he does occasional dips when we're on holiday (in Scotland) but takes ages to get his shoulders in, and when he finally does he makes sounds like a baboon
AR, I hated my hessian sacks for tatties last year too - I think they were just too narrow and it made it difficult to water them. Gave me a good crop of spuds though. I'll have a look at those pots you've got. Shame about the spillage, hope the house smells better this morning.
Glad you've got heating back, twopenny. Hope the finger is less sore today. I love the term 'planetary parade' - it was lovely and starry during the night, but I didn't have a proper look, wishing I had now though.
Dusty, I thought those leaves looked more heart shaped, a bit like lily pads.
Enjoy your week off, wort. I hadn't heard of dry eye before, but it doesn't sound very pleasant - hope it clears up.
taff, you'll have to keep us posted on the hay/straw for tatties if you decide to go for it.
Rainy today, but tomorrow and Friday are looking promising'A watched potato will never chit'...7
