Can anyone guess why I took it?My best, very speculative, guess is it's a modern building, with what looks like two eyes... YBE!? But then, I failed completely on the quiz question...Less, you win the prize for the most creative, divergent thinking!
It's nothing as subtle as that.
Oh dear, 2p,but at least the weather's mild. Can the plumber assist?
The wind's gone around here, so I can't re-start my conflagration from yesterday. Had to cut two more willows. One fell over when I pushed it (!) and the other was leaning down in the way of tractors. I still have about 3 dumpy bags of hazel to pick up anyway, and that's without those I'm turning into tomato and pea supports. Seems never ending. Here's a close-up of the hanging baskets on the bus shelter. They aren't the primary reason for the picture either, but they're jolly in their own way, and they make me smile every time I pass in the car."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." That's a very cute wee bus shelter, Dusty. No idea on why you took the pic though??
Sorry to hear about your heating, twopenny, I hope you can get it fixed. Glad you managed to get into the garden - I wasn't sure if your use of the word 'viewing' meant you're still thinking of selling up?? We never get frog spawn in our pond, or if we do the newts eat them
Farway, what does the HT stand for when you said HT roses?? Hope it's not too noisy for you today.
The moon and Venus (??) looked fantastic last night - I actually managed to capture the waxing crescent shape in this pic...
But my favourite pic is this one... it could have been a much better pic if only I could get the hang of photographing the moonI still like it though - I thought the UFO aeroplane was going to go in front of the moon to make it look more 'Spielberg'...
Whoops - OT... damp and drizzly today.

AFter fabulously sunny weather yesterday, back to gloom today but at least not raining. Went to the allotment again helped to circular economy by taking some metal mesh from ndn there, very kind of him. Chopped down some dead cherry tree, emptied and cleaned two waterbutts, laid some more cardboard, burned the snaky ends of the weed fabric, That was about it. I'm still wondering what can I get to edge the keyhole garden with. At the moment,m it's cardboard and large hole metal mesh but I'd like something prettier but easily transportable and relatively cheap or free. Aswers on a postcard please. Maybe willow sticks if I can find some.Dusty, I reckon because there's some sun on the building
and it hasn't been vandalised. Jealous of your lots of sticks too. Not the never ending work though.
Less, there's no need to run in your good weather, you must be in a secret part of the Isles where the weather goes for a holidayFarway, sounds like there's a whole lot of gardening going on now, fingers crossed for better pins...2P, how pants. Fingers crossed for a heating solution. After staying in my unheated sisters house [ except the kitchen] in January, I feel your pain...but I'm afraid I did laugh at not checking your BP just yet...what a run of unfortunate things.I didn't see any planets except for venus blinging away last night because it was actualy clear for a change and really bright considering the moon is a sickle.PP, that looks more like a meteorite than a plane...or could it be superman?

Less, you win the prize for the most creative, divergent thinking! That's a kind way of putting it!
I actually thought the flowers must be plastic as nothing as colourful and unsheltered could survive in these parts except briefly in summer (and around best-kept garden time
)
Less, there's no need to run in your good weather, you must be in a secret part of the Isles where the weather goes for a holidayYes, it's just that usually we get the bad stuff while everyone else is having the good stuff...tho' we tend to be a bit happier in a heatwave than everywhere else...

Farway, what does the HT stand for when you said HT roses?? Hope it's not too noisy for you today.HT - Hybrid Tea, unlike Floribunda, climber, rambler, dwarf etcIt's the “normal” large, single bloom per stem oneThe sort you find at weddings & in vases of flowersOne of mine is Deep Secret, which is deep red & heavenly scentI know someone else here, 2p or YBE ? Has a beauty as well.PS drilling & banging stopped, presumably job completed

Happy monday.
I did my typical this weekend - Saturday was lovely so I spent the day indoors thinking about what I'd do on sunday... then it rained
Today is better though. Between doing bits of the job I'm paid to do, I broke up a small stack of boxes I'd been collecting in the shed and put them down as weed suppression under the fruit trees. I also had a few bags of 'composted bark' that I bought last year thinking it was ornamental bark (I can english, honest), and had a pleasant surprise when I dumped them out and they were full of worms. I swear they can teleport... Used that on top of the cardboard to stop it from blowing away, but I would expect the goodness won't do any harm either.
After the discussion of bean supports, I also figured I should get mine out and decide where I was putting them this year. I'll probably move them several times before actually planting anything, but at least I know they're there and seeing them will remind the back of my brain to think about it (likely at 2am when I'm trying to sleep).
Off topic, but I'm really craving pancakes for some reason... Lunch I guessI'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.9 -
Thanks for the good wishes everyone. Glad your noise has stopped Farway. Thanks for the link DustyHeating man 'coming to look' tomorrow night.Aeriel man came but I'd trapped my fingers in the ladder so he wizzed round and did a 10min job for an eyewatering amount. But it's done. I can now camp in the bedroom if necessary. So between the desicated fingers and seeing Physio tomorrow it's unlikely I'll get to the garden. Before it's too chilly to sit here I went for a drive over the moor to clear my mind/be warm and this is what I saw.Unusual, there were about 9 youngsters and I had to photograph through the car window as I was on a narrow steep narrow hill.Had to duck with a huge flock of Field Fares flying low - and banks of Snowdrops. In my garden 1
But I'm happy with it.
Also Dutch Iris has blossomed and Crocus and Daffs on the way.Not sure why everything in so early?I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

What lovely photos, twopenny. It sounds like you had a nice afternoon, with fieldfares and snowdrops too. Hope the heating gets sorted tonight. We're still just relying on the stove for heat after the storage heaters went kaput after Storm Eowyn.
AR, did you decide what you're going to grow your tatties in this year?? Sorry, I can't remember if you've already said. I've seen a couple of garden centres advertising seed potatoes, so might have a look in a couple of weeks. I won't be using the plastic hessian sacks I used last year, or if I do it'll only be one plant per sack, not three.
Thanks for the rose info, Farway. I too love the heavenly scent of some roses, but hate the thorns. We had a David Austin rose here when we moved in, but it had no discernible scent and had the most vicious thorns, so that got dug out.
Less, are you England, Scotland, Wales??
taff, you're steaming ahead at the allotment. I'm now trying to get rid of the ear worm that is 'Oh Superman' out of my head...

PP, that looks more like a meteorite than a plane...or could it be superman?Vandalism is unlikely there, as there's a small population, nowhere to park and a busy road, which we had to walk along for 300m to reach the footpath. A mile away there's a posh hotel place, and there they just happen to have two extremely posh bus sheltersAs you can see, it's Farway's fairies, riding unicorns, who were responsible.Returning to my workaday shelter with the plastic plant decoration, the reason I posted it, was a rare glimpse of Petasites fragrans, which is a 'blink, and you miss it' flower that pops up in winter. There's loads of it in the valley we walked down, but the ones in sunshine by the road were ahead of those. It's amazing what folks can spot when out and about at this time of year, like 2p's deer, for example. Our 'strange sight of the day' was less appealing. A guy was expertly preparing pheasant carcasses on the tailboard of a truck, no doubt for use in the local hostelry!I think pp's 'plane' was an alien mothership heading for the Americas and a meeting with a certain president, who's slapped a 25% tariff on Netflix broadcasts to Alpha Centauri and had aliens banned from holding X accounts. Quite right too! Let the aliens produce their own drivel! In other news, it was a gloriously sunny day yesterday, so of course, I was still cutting down trees and collecting the remains. Too stiff to do the same today, but rain is on the strong wind from the south, so a spell indoors is OK.Here's a final picture from last Friday's walk. I think 2p will appreciate it.I'm always concentrating on the junction ahead when driving, so I've never spotted him before.
