Dry & quite warm, sun is trying to appear.Went up the volunteer spot, cut back the Shasta daises, and came home via Home Bargains, where two packs of Tete a Tete daffs fell into my pocket, can never have too many of those.I'll try & find some wire cage stuff to fit over them, anti squirrel. And then Sainsbugs for 29ltrs of diesel. Thought best to get some in before you the know what in October.pink_poppy said:Do you scoff the whole fig, Farway, skin and all, or just the inside?? I've never had a fresh fig. Apple damage looks more like rodent? Spot the teethmarks...birds tend to peck deeper narrower holes, IMESurely "Truss" would be a short season, quick to bolt lettuce? (which self-seeds and regularly pops up uninvited) >:. It could join the Blair range of fruit and veg... (not political debate, honest guv)...7

LessImpecunious said:Apple damage looks more like rodent? I'm v late today, I was up and out this morning to the docs at 0715. Turns out I am diabetic, but it's the 'quit shovelling carp down your thrapple' variety, which is what Cissie said to me weeks ago. The definition of carp has changed since I wor a lass - eg fruit+fibre in the morning? Tick. Anything more than a half teaspoon of milk on it? Big Cross! Milk is bad for sugar - who knew?! Hooray for straight-talking middle-aged nurses eh
This is not legal advice etc.
I remember Fred now Farway, having watched your link. I think my memory blocked him cos I always found him a bit creepyDid SuperstarGD make it down through all that wind ok? Presumably the weight of her washing in the back gave her wee car a bit of substance ha haa! If she can do that distance, in the wind, as a fresh baby driver, on a bank hol. she's set for life bless her
I agree with Less, your apples have more of a scrapey teethy look than pokey beaky
pp Ooh your facefook friend sounds like the OracleUnless she meant you were young looking..? I knew you were thinking of freesias but you got it
I so love freesias, they were my ma's favourite. Makes my heart smile when I see them in the shops
Did you get your insurance sorted 2p? Is it any cheaper to bundle it in with your house insurance? Sometimes that works. I miss brokers too tbh, I'm not sure I save enough money shopping round to make the hassle of it worth it.
Woohoo for NIMBY neighbours giving up the dispute Dusty! :clapping: Are you going to write a very carefully and cleverly constructed 'apology'. or leave them hanging...?
The lettuce talk made me properly giggle, in a non-political way obvs, and I'll not add anything to it.
OT another lovely day here, sunny and cloudy if a bit too breezy.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.7 -
Bluey that's a bit of a bummer. Watching your food
I think everything converts to sugar. Milk is a bit of a surprise though. But hopefully you can reverse it if you do as you're told
Just got the insurance quotes. Only took 3.5hrsWill buy it tomorrow, enough is enough.
Yes, half an hour at the brokers and relaxing. One of my fruit bags has been eaten into and an apple gone. It was where the rat could stand on the compost heap bin - but can't move the tree or the binGot a new spray bottle for the black fly and white fly oon the beans. Got the old one out and the trigger broke into pieces. Have to be done tomorrow now. It's dark again here and now it's raining, not useful rain, just wet. I do not like this. brown leaves all over the paths and man blowing them away in town to stop the drains blocking already.I did see a squirel eating an egg while standing in the woods waiting to go on a group walk and I did the walk that floored me last year and everything is still workingI can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Aw, sorry to read that you've had diabetes confirmed, YBE. Are you having to go on medication as well or do Drs think it can be controlled through diet?? I'm guessing you'll need to keep testing your blood sugar. Will you need to go back to the optician now as well?? I think lactose free milk has less sugars than ordinary milk?? Eating lower carb might help too.
I think FB friend is just obsessed with my sister tbh - always has been...
For Dusty's neighbours... (with a good dose of sarcasm)
Father Jack from Father Ted, in case anyone doesn't know who it is. It was a GIF, but I don't know how to add them. Also available on YouTube.
Shame about your apples, Farway. Hopefully not Roland Rat, like twopenny's.
Weather was bloomin' awful this morning, but it brightened up this afternoon.'A watched potato will never chit'...7 -

AKA politicians one. Here is what happens when my fruit is not netted, I assume it's birds, Lesser Spotted Apple Pecker perhaps? Those apples look like those we have damaged by Redwings and Fieldfares, but it's too early for them. Maybe a member of the same family, like a Blackbird or Thrush?Where's the satisfaction in getting AI to write a patronising response? The one I used to use in my brief encounter with the Civil Service is also brief: "The Minister wishes me to tell you, your further representations have been noted."Grey again here, in a day filled with excitement. Bat Woman arrived early, prompting a healthy half-lunch/ Then we heard the container is arriving tomorrow, not Friday, so a hasty trip to buy railway sleepers was arranged. This was not to the nearest farmers' depot, or even the Head Office site, but to Holsworthy, which is so close to Cornwall it makes no difference. "No, we got none yer, nor up the commercial yard, but computer says they got 200 in Holsworthy. It's strange..." You're telling me!Anyway, they were the real thing, full of lovely creosote and the products of train toilets, so they'll see me out (or off!
) At £30 they're a steal, and I've a job for them when keeping a container level is done with.
I forgot to say, some un-forecast rain fell on us near Cornwall. With the light westerly wind, we then enjoyed wetness from the same clouds again, shortly after returning home.Dare I refresh this page? I started this around 14.00!

Woohoo for car insurance and being fine after a walk, but booo to rats 2p. Bluddy varmints, they're like squirrels - no shame and no decency!
For black/white fly, I'm sure I read on here somewhere about a woman who used to pull dock leaves and put them in a bucket of water, then after a few days use that water to spray plants with. No more black/white/any colour flies
Father JackWith a bit of will-power and a reshuffling I'll do it through diet, I wasn't all that far over the line into type2. The trouble is I don't eat a lot of the things we used to call carp, it's the new additions that'll be a bu99er. I'll have to limit my tea intake (because milk) and I sure as ship ain't drinking black tea *sigh* No medication was offered, instructions for putting on big girl pants and website recommendations were offered. See how it goes and book another appointment in a few months so we can check. Interesting lifestyle conversational point - you can get insulin for type2 now... I'm not going back to that opticians, I'll have to find a new one. And when I've secured one I'm going back in to tell them why I left
£30 for proper actual sleepers DustyThat's more than a steal, that's the deal of the century :clapping: Was Batwoman happy? 'Yes, Minister' had so many good lines... spend an evening binge watching that and I bet you'd produce a cracking 'apology'
Share it with us when you've done one, won't you?
OT Warm and humid out there now. It drizzled a wee bit last night but must have rained overnight, not a useful amount I don't think but better than nothing. High of 23'c, they say.
Oh and anyone else using the Merlin bird app thing - forgive me for stating the bleedin' obvious, but don't forget to do it at night. I've only been doing mornings and evenings when all the wee birds are active, but I was out last night at 2100 and there were 2 owls twitting and twooing at each other - a Tawny Owl and a Little Owl. It was lovelyI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.8 -
You're better at the political sarcasm than I am, Less. A definite case of "Less is more!"Ouch! My addled brain forgot all about Fred Dineage and 'How?'. As a child, I liked Jack Hargreaves best. He was the old fisherman uncle I never had. Once that clip finished, I went down a rabbit hole in Dorset with him in the very last episode of the country programme he used to present. Magic!Sorry about the medical news, Bluey, but it's probably not too late to reverse the situation, though perhaps at the expense of missing some yummy things.
As you say, mucho advice on the internet, some of it good. I wouldn't be where I am today...etc.etc.
Seriously, if it weren't for online sources, I doubt I'd have taken sufficient interest in my health to stave off some old age nasties coming down the track.
We think we're invincible when young, and mostly that's true, when our guardian angels pull us through some ridiculous behaviour, but eventually they tire and say, "You're on your own now, chum!" Quite right, too.
Worst was tobacco in 1981, but fruit juice, the most recent casualty in the sugar stakes, is hard enough for a codger.
After a week or two, though, I'm starting to appreciate the subtle nuances of water, but there'll be no surrender on tea!
I've got to get out there and prepare for container lorry Armageddon soon, but briefly, well done 2p for walking without repercussions. I do believe the body can repair itself, given a fighting chance. Garlic water is good for bugs, if you've no docks, and yes, £30 for real railway sleepers is great, though driving an hour each way to get them isn't.Right, nothing new in the camera, so here's another photo from the greyness that's been our weather for the post few days, despite all those sunny symbols on the charts. Dusk, and it almost went pink, so I cheated, a little bit."Everything's just f.....ine!"8 -
Lovely pic, Dusty. Are Cardoons a member of the thistle family??
Good that you're only just over the Type 2 limit, YBE. Definitely keep an eye (no pun intended) on things and I hope you manage to find another optician. I know you weren't happy with the original one, but she was the one who brought up diabetes in the first place (albeit not very forthcoming unless you forked out more money) and you could possibly have been none the wiser if you hadn't seen her.
We had a bit of sun earlier, but it's cloudy now and we're forecast yet more rain in the next hour or so. Apparently it's official now that we've had more rain this year than normal. Tell me something I don't know...'A watched potato will never chit'...7
