Taff have you watched Monty Don's Mediterranian Gardens, the local ones not the fancy ones. Oh I so want to be there and do that. I mean visiting and picking and eating......I watch it often and dream for a while.Good idea about the milkshake but I can't be bothered. It's not bad, just not chocolate. Sadly people have been complaining about there not being enough milk and there's a sign in big letters 'We only have 3 cows' and then a lot about cost of land etc.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

-taff said:Less, who said that? the advice that is...great haul of toms too, say what the ukrainian one is like and maybe save some seeds for a swap?Haven't tasted one yet - tho the first ones I picked are ripe now, waiting for a dish at the weekend... The advice comes from a blog by a chap called Robert Pavlis, in the US, who looks at scientific studies in relation to gardening advice (or "myths" as many turn out to be!) - https://www.gardenmyths.com/myth-is-born-tomato-ripening/See also Charles Dowding, another usually reliable source of evidence-based advice - https://www.charlesdowding.co.uk/post/july-mid-month-new-companion-plantings-seed-saving-tomato-ripening-your-gardens-onions-compost

I like your moon pic too, twopenny, quite spooky looking.
wort, the hydrangea is looking gorgeous this year. Last year it didn't even flower.
I agree with Dusty, you do have a lovely skyline, YBE. Definitely a weird sky with those tornado clouds.
I'm loving my new phone for the pics, it's a decent camera for sure.
Dusty, your moon pic is lovely too. Zero chance of seeing a moon hereAbsolute bargain with the plants - well done to your DD for spotting them.
Wow to your tomatoes, Less, hope they taste good.
taff, I would move to Italy for the weather (and then spend all day complaining about the heat).
I managed to strip the outside tomato plant of most of the leaves yesterday (in between showers) and was surprised to find 10 fruits on there now. I bought these in Lidl on Monday and can recommend them - £1.19 on offer.. nice and tasty (I'd scoffed two before I took the pic).
We have a yellow warning for rain, which I think is to do with the tail-end of Ernesto. It's chilly too (feels like 6 degrees according to my phone). We had the fire on last night and will probably have it on tonight too.
Took a couple of pics this morning when I was out reading the meter - rain spattered fuchsia and holly...
I do wonder if there's somewhere between twopenny and I that is 'just right' weatherwise. twopenny is too dry, we are too wet. Who has the Goldilocks weather, I wonder??

I just can't use the day.
Mrs Dusty has had to use what's now our only car to take an older lady to the doctor some miles away, so it looks difficult to get where I planned to go for a walk.
Never mind, I may just take my walking friend some much-needed mulch instead. I want to clear our yard of that, and it's beautiful stuff.I can see I'll need to up my game with the photos now! I have some rain spattered Agapanthus somewhere, but no match for your fuchsias!EDIT: Vanilla buxxerixg- about again today!"There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. A bit late on parade because I went up to volunteer place & watered all the pots, luckily not dried up because the forecast heat wave never really arrived.Everyone has been busy I see, nice pcs as usual, and what a great haul Dusty DD.Nice spooky moon 2P, and good tom selection Less, once you have success it makes it worthwhileI've read through, but apologies if I miss someone.I went to Morries post watering, they've reduced the dead bamboo to £1.50, dead standard roses are 99p, dead potted fruit trees are £1.50, dead standard posh willows are 99pSomeone needs shooting
, honestly if they had sensibly reduced them while they were still a bit green they could've covered costs at least.
That phone camera is a cracker PP, what is the make of phone? Just in case I find myself in need of one.Got to dash, back laterIn the meantime, here are more border pics from Monday GC visit, I'm oozing envy from every poreEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens7 -
I don't think you need any help with your photos, Farway. You always post lovely pics. You and Dusty both
The phone is an iphone 15 pro max. I went for a decent one because I'm expecting it to last as long as my last one (10 years).
DH has just lit the fire - it's cold, pouring down with rain and windy here
Kudos to the collared dove (or Streptopelia as my phone informed me) for having a nap on the whirly in the pouring rain...
Not a very clear pic, as my kitchen window is even grubbier than the bedroom window... (in my defence, it really hasn't been window cleaning weather here, honest m'lud).'A watched potato will never chit'...8 -
What's this? A clip from an old Spielberg movie, perhaps? No, this is the countryside at around 01.00, where the big machines are still out, harvesting! They'd finished by 02.00. Maybe they decided to push on, with the wet and windy weather we're having this morning in the forecast. It's not that wet, though, just miserable. Aww brave little dove
You'll be flooding the place with photos now you've got your phone pp. Yous have got it bad up there and no let up for a few days. You'll just have to get hunkered down in front of that fire 'til it passes. Your rain-spattered pics are very Autumnal
If we're purely going by north/south then me and wm are in the middle of you, but I'd hardly say our weather is a sweet spot ha haa!
It was forecast a bit sunny and windy here yesterday, obviously that actually means lashing wind and rain so I got togged up to go to Posh Town (we don't learn, do we wort) and it was cloudy and a bit sunny and windy. Swines. Who mentioned Christmas? They've put up the big decs at the top of lamp posts already fgs-
I like your rudbekia Farway, they always look like they're happy to be alive and puffing their little chests out. Like, here I am world!
What dish you cooking at the weekend then Less...? And let me know when you're sick of that basket
We do have a lovely sky line here, but that was our last summer without being overlooked. They're doing up and selling off as they go along, so now the corner has been done they've started on the ones facing usAh well. Everyone pray for a property crash so I can get peace in me garden!
Got my toms defoliated yesterday and I think there's a bit of blight in the stemsThere was definitely a bit in the leaves so I might not have much of a haul this year. I've left them for now, but they better fight the rest of it off so I get some fruits..
No rain forecast today, just desperate wind and coolish. Therefore it'll pour out of the heavens, and I'll sit in and watch all the Yorkshire progs again - they've been really good, I hope they make moreAfter I've perambulated the Handsome one
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.5 -
No rain till teatime yesterday, then not not much again but looks like it’s rained overnight and still going obviously cos friend and I had planned a walk.Ventusky says rain till 12 ,walk is supposed to be 10.I’m about half way just under half way up country but no sweet spot, though that could just be me and my bad circulation that’s always cold. I’d certainly like a bit more warmth, down to 50/60 f today.
fingerscrossed for your toms and skyline YBE.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.4 -
Christmas lights in August!
Why not just leave them up all year, like the rental boards in student areas of big uni cities? Then, Christmas could be more inclusive.
Maybe that's the idea?
Here's a nice, Oriental-style sitooterie, courtesy of an estate agent. No messing with bottles of wine and fresh flowers, just a pile of leaves! Don't forget your crash helmet!"There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity8
