PP glad you’re feeling better,
2p hope the gastro is ok now. I’m miles behind on these post again, and I’m sure I’ve missed some.
YBE work been ok so far, does depend which managers in though.
Dgs came Friday and attacked the weigela took it back to fence height,he also lopped off the sapling growing at the back of my fence before it got too big.The bin full now,and it had just been emptied. BIL did a bit of trimming of shrubs too. So good result all round.I had tidied the weeds Weds between the paving at the front.
Mixed bag of weather, boiling then cool and raining. Off to work shortly, it was hectic yesterday ,everyone and his dog seemed to be out.
Apparently we are in for some big rain hitting me around Mon and Tuesday .Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.6 -
Early feed & watering this morning, the pots at the front. When I was potting on the broad beans yesterday, I realised just how dry the pots were, despite the rain. All sorted nowI may join Dusty in some tomato pics, the “leftovers” I bunged in spare spaces planted at the front are ripening, Labels gone, but they are cherry type.I know one is Veranda Red, which BTW also had a tinge of blight about it. Foliage now removed while fruit fully ripens. For me, while Veranda Red looks a nice plant, getting blight this early has kicked it off my listI still have one VR that is blight freeBig picking of runners later today, I wonder if I'll have a glut? That would be ironic for someone who was not going to grow beans this year.I'm sure I'll find takers for any excess, CBA to freeze, and I still have RB chutney from previous yearsThe Kong coleus were sown yesterday, I had intended to just sow a few, but as you can see they are very fiddly, and the lot fell out as I was trying to tease some out.Anyway, now covered in a touch of vermiculite & in poly bag “greenhouse” in the conservatory, where it is nice & toasty at the moment.Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens7

Ooh Ber months pp, I really like that! I'm deffo a BER person
Glad they're not running you ragged at work wort. I reckon you'll get whatever rain and wind is left when it crosses the water from Cissie. Looks like it's got plenty enough for everyone.
Blight FarwayWill de-foliage-ing it stop the spread? Jeez I will laugh if you end up with such a bean glut you run out of folks to offload them on
Dusty named the exotic flower - it is a Tigridia pavonia and did come from Lidl. It was only cheap too so I'm pleased with them. Mind I planted the whole net (about a dozen or more iirr) and I only got the one flower... Santa better be bringing me a shotgun for Christmas
All a bit mad here. Bob sups more tea than Cissie and Beloved Cousin did combinedGood job I keep healthy stores of proper teabags in. I'll ask Cissie to send me some more. Speaking of cups - finer or no - I could drink coffee out of the one with ...paws.... on, tbh I could drink coffee out of a clarty welly, but for tea it needs to a delicate cup/mug.
The weather here's been lovely these last couple of days. Sunny but not strong sun, a few clouds, a bit breezy, highs of 21 ish. Perfect, leave them dials well alone now St FiacreI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4 -
Not a bad day here, and nothing major in prospect, though rain looks set to spoil a local club barbecue planned for tomorrow night.
We can eat indoors, but watching the sunset from a balcony, like last year, would have made it more pleasant.
We have guests, so very little will get done here, I suspect. They're all off to a local attraction which features diggers and every other sort of earth-moving equipment. Having finally just rid ourselves of those items from the garden, we can't see the attraction, but it's 'for the kids!'Sounds like you're back on track, wort, but don't overdo it. Good you've had some family help in the garden.Big D, taff? Err....I don't want to be big....well, I'd welcome 5cm more height, but the bit around the middle is too large and I need to shift it. Again, with guests this week, no chance of that.Anyway, you're up to wall plate height already, so that extension's going great.
Watching your walls on the other channel, Bluey, and it's looking good there too.More guests on their way, so I'd better get going. No new flowers among my photos, but Mrs Dusty's tomato haul, or part of it, will do. The elongated ones are the Datlos, which are meaty and not too bland. I'll grow them again."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity5 -
I'm a bit late saying but - Big D and the Eff Meister gets my voteI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.3

More slows it than stop, taking leaves off allows more air circulation, and removes all infected or tainted parts, may just give extra time for fruit to ripenA bit of a race against time & a gamble, but like shouting at TV, feels like you're doing something at least.Nice bowl of toms there, Mrs D.Here's my blighty Veranda Red now ripening at the frontThe sharp-eyed can name that seed pod, for amusement only, no prizesEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens6 -
Alice I just pour boiling water over rose petals (Gertrude Jeykl in this case) and leave to steep for a few hours then remove the petals. It comes out brown but the smell is heavenly. There are other ways to do it, I think I took more care when younger. It's really good as a moisturiser or after sun. Also Boots used to sell Glycerine and Rosewater lotion. That was a quick body moisturiser. You can make it by distilling or in the oven. Lavender water is much more stable and I have used it as a room spray. The book that started me was A Book of Pot-Pourri - new and old ideas for fragarant flowers and herbs.Having a lazy day to try and shift all the aches and pains from trying to do too much lately and all in one go......not that there was much choice. It's interesting.I appreciated hanging the washing out as the bed linen brushed the lavender (though it will probably get stained with raspberry), the sound of the water fountain (yes it's working), pizza for lunch with some of my own basil. It's surprising how you race round not noticing that you have actually achieved what you wantedPicked up some of the neighbours apples. I must do something with them.................Weather is pale grey cloud, warmish but a cold wind. Washing out to dry.BTW a friend who sold antiques said to lay washed whites onto grass to dry in the sun as it helped whiten them. Mine are on the line as the grass is parched and not so green.Sheesh this site is slow and sticky - and it's not just Vanilla though that was the last straw!

thank you @twopenny for the info - I do have a couple of Gertrude Jekyll roses though not in flower at the moment - they may repeat flower. I'm fond of the fragrance of Austin's 'Bathsheba' so I'll have a whirl with that.Off to order the book now!Fashion on the Ration 2025 37/666

You used to be able to buy Almond oil cheap pre pandemic. Only online now, in the shops it's all the refined expensive stuff.I wonder if the petals would soak better in that and so keep better. Getting them out would be messy though
