Package lost by DX via Parcel2go.com no insurance.

Hi all , this is my first post . I think this is the right place to put it but , if not I`m sure someone will move it .
Firstly let me say that I know I made some mistakes here and I`m aware of them so "why on earth didn`t you insure it " needs not be said (yes I`ve read previous posts ..hehe)
I sent a package with Parcel2go.com . I`m a restorer of vintage audio equipment , and when I send it out I don`t insure it because I make 100% sure its packaged for a war and so ordinarily there`s no point and it keeps the cost down for the client . No don`t charge people for insurance and keep it . Anyway I digress  , This particular item was a 1981 Revox B750mk 2 amplifier that I have totally restored and sold to a member of my FB group for £800.
It was sent out on the 8th of Sept and it still hasn`t arrived as of the 3rd Oct . So I have been chasing it and chasing it and chasing it and neither DX ,who just say , there has been an "issue" with your item and , rightly , talk to P2G,  and P2G wont tell me anything at all about what`s going on .  I know that my issue legally is with P2G as its them I have the contract with . Now I`m no legal expert , at all , but , to me the clause in their terms and conditions that talks about loss and sates "6.7 If we are liable to you for any reason, we shall (subject always to clause 7) only be liable to refund to you the cost paid for the Service(s), unless you have purchased Parcel Protection for your Consignment from us.  " seem to me to fall under unreasonable in this situation as they have a legal duty of care to get the parcel to its destination no ?
Any help and advice from people that are up on the legal side of this would be greatly appreciated .

As a side not , the tracking went as follows .
Collected ,
At the depot,
At the delivery depot .
Loaded onto a van for delivery
Out for delivery ....

And thats where it is and has been since the 9th of september .

Cheers all .

No , this was a private  sale . It was one of my own personal pieces of equipment.

As a restorer of audio equipment, you are classed as a business. Due diligence would be afforded that the trinkets were insured in transit. Not the answer you would like, but adjust your business postage in future to ensure against future losses.

I have highlighted the part where is it said you are a business.
  • good grief , i have a right to sell my own stuff outside the boundaries of work , just the same as i would if i were a plumber and wanted to sell my kitchen sink  . This was an amp given to me in 1999 by my father , it was my own personal item , not that that has anything to do with the question I asked .

What do you see as being unreasonable? They failed to provide the service so should refund the cost of it. But for the value of goods sent, Parcel2go have two prices - zero protection or for a little more, £20 protection that can be increased at additional cost. If you want to save money by not insuring or under-insuring (as I often do myself) then you bear the financial risk.of loss or damage.

thank you , that was a sensible reply and the one I expected . The cost was not "a little more " though , it was £11 to send next day not covered and £63 covered .

OK it's not a little more but £52 cost or £800 loss I would not have risked it

Yeah in hindsight I should have done really  , as I said in the original post . I know I should have . I have the £20 cover , so at least I can replace one of the knobs . ..haha .
  • Parcel2Go are very good for giving a low 'base' price with no cover, but their cover is very expensive.
I used to run a large online retailer and would use them for postage of most orders - I 'self insured' and thus covered any loss of parcels from the savings I made not buying cover.

Unfortunately I'd say you're in the same boat I was on the odd occasion they'd lose something - you've opted for a cheaper rate to save money, and 99% of the time you'll come out on top doing this - however this time you're in the 1%.

Exactly. They measure the risk and charge accordingly.
You measure the risk vs cost and choose accordingly.
In this case you chose poorly.
I have no idea if RM have cut SD prices (as this seems very cheap) but this would have been the price if the amp met the size requirements
