LL hasn't got a clue. See above link. To quote:- 6 months if they gave you notice on or after 29 August 2020
If you are feeling really mean, don't tell the LL, tell the court and they will disallow his application for possession completely. Then he'll have to give notice again and go to court again and pay the costs. Or you could tell him and ask for your deposit returned early and perhaps an additional sum to make moving easier for you. You might have to be a bit more flexible as to area. But even in my area (high demand) there are plenty of properties available for rent.4 -
As Deanna says, the notice is invalid. If you dig your heels in, you could still be there in 18 months time.binns76 said:Notice was served on the 30th September.
Given the landlord has a good reason why he needs to sell, would it be possible for you to cooperate in exchange for a cash payment of say 3 months rent?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?3 -
I would reply saying you're not comfortable with letting people into the property given the current situation with Covid and that you expect them to comply with the laws regarding the tenancy agreement. Leave it at that.

He wants you out, he can’t get you out for at least a year unless you agree, therefore you have the power in this situation and can think about what you want.If I were you I’d want a glowing reference, all the costs of moving fully covered, my deposit back now and a couple of grand financial compensation for the inconvenience/risk of having estate agents, viewers, surveyors etc. Tramping through my home and having to move during a pandemic.Think about what you want and then put your request to him.3

So tell us what you are trying to hide.0

This is terrible. The LL wants to sell the property to save his business and, for all you all know, to save jobs., and you are mostly advising the OP to make his life as difficult as possible. Instead of posting on here the OP should be out looking for another property to rent.
Anyone who rents knows well that they don’t own the property and that a LL can decide to sell up and I know that’s their home but advising people to make someone’s life difficult without knowing the LL side is dreadful IMO.We don't stop playing because we grow old; We grow old because we stop playing.17 -
People tend to stick to people's legal rights here rather than emotions. That'll be why.
2024 wins: *must start comping again!*6 -
nothing personal but business. The LL is acting the same. Another reason I wouldn't be a LL, Tenants can make your life difficult with no control over this at all. The government is giving more and more right to tenants now and in the future.ameliarate said:This is terrible.
