jsmith9 said:Not sure if this would work, but could you open a NS&I direct saver or investment account? As an expat you are allowed to. You will get a sort code and account number (generic NS&I) and a ref number - maybe DWP can pay payments into one of these? I believe you can xfer cash from your NS&I account to overseas bank accounts.

This thread seems to have gone quiet for a while but the issue continues. Citibank just advised me they are closing all "UK" current accounts - unless you are mega rich - been an account holder of theirs for forty years whilst resident in Jersey and now France. Got modest NS&I holdings, use a foreign exchange outfit for good rates, just need a UK based sterling current account for a few direct debits and standing orders and a debit card, no overdraft facilities or savings products needed. Any suggestions? Also hope "retiredinfrance" and "Cydiane" issues now resolved satisfactorily.

There were news items in September 2022 saying that Citi were planning to wind down their UK retail business to concentrate on private clients, so I suspect that they are now proceeding with exiting the UK market and your account is going as part of that, nothing to do with you not being a UK resident.0
