I've taken the following from BT for £24.99 a month on a 24 month contract:
Fibre Essential
- Free access to over 5 million UK Wi-Fi hotspots
- 200GB secure online storage with BT Cloud
- BT Parental Controls, BT Web Protect & BT Virus Protect for worry free browsing
- Dedicated UK and Ireland-based support
Pay As You Go Call Plan
- A standard charge of 20p for all local, national, mobile, 0870 and 0845 calls
- Free add ons
- Caller Display
- BT Call Protect
Since I took out this package on Thursday 24th September 2020 the price has now increased for others to £26.99 monthly.
This package is sufficient for my needs.
Going back to my problems with Virgin I forgot to say one very worrying problem recently is my Mailbox is now constantly showing as "Not Secure". I do have my own computer security via Norton so I can rest assured my security is being taken care of elsewhere.

Regarding your Mail, who provides you email service (Google, Yahoo, Hotmail/outlook, Virgin?) and what software are you using to access the Mail box ? Unless you can post an actual image of the "Not Secure" message, it will be difficult for anyone to help you. eg. It perhaps may be a pop message from Norton ?
(In unlikely even you are using Virgin email, you will lose it when you leave Virgin)
Reminder you have to give Virgin 30 days notice to cancel broadband service.

This is what I am seeing on the toolbar of my VirginMedia webmail page. Other tabs on my web browser including MSE show the "Locked Padlock" symbol.
I am using a Microsoft Surface Pro with up to date Windows 10.
I gave VirginMedia notice yesterday and I am being connected to BT on 29th October so that is over 30 days notice. I will be able to access my VirginMedia emails through BT and will gradually change my main email address to my new BT email address.0 -

As it stands, you will be paying £24.99 for 24 months which is a total of £599.76 and there is a one off upfront fee of £19.99 so your total will be £619.76.
If you can switch to the Fibre 1 deal at £27.99 per month (and an upfront payment of £9.99) your total over 24 months will be £681.75 but with this, you get an £80 prepaid mastercard so taking this into account, your total outgoings over 24 months will be £601.75. This will be £18 cheaper over the 2 year contract and you get the benefit of slightly higher speeds (up to 41Mb download as opposed to 29Mb with the Fibre essential).

I switched to BT a couple of weeks ago (Fibre 2 package) and I received a £100 Mastercard.

You are best advised to move to a free email service such as Google or Outlook etc (Sign up at mail dot google dot com, outlook dot com etc) which you would be able to use with any internet provider. It would also avoid the pain of informing friends, relatives and businesses every time you change your address, and losing incoming messages because a contact continues to send messages to your former email address by accident.
Regarding the 'Not Secure' issue with Virgin web mail, apparently it is nothing to worry about:

Thank you for working out what appears to be a better deal for me with less cost and faster Broadband speed and a £80 prepaid mastercard.
When I signed up for my deal I went through a cashback website and I am expecting £115 cashback so I am still better off with my deal so I would prefer to leave things as they are now. The much slower download speed is not an issue for me as I only use the Internet for browsing, emails and TV via iPlayer. I do not stream movies or download vast amounts.
Thanks again.

I have Mozilla Thunderbird installed and do sometimes use it to access all my email accounts. I prefer using the Internet Provider's email service via Windows Edge browser as I can have it as one of the tabs and I don't have to keep jumping back and forth from Edge to Thunderbird.
Is Thunderbird recommended as being safe to use?
Further to the Virgin issues I forgot to say another regular problem is when I first log on for the day I often get an error similar too - Connection Error Server Error Please try again. I can't remember the exact wording as I just refresh/try again and it usually connects me after that.0 -
<Is Thunderbird recommended as being safe to use?>YesVM are closing your email account after you leave ?? or will you pay for it .

you can keep the BT email address for free , if you want premium email service then you pay, it’s inaccurate to suggest that you have to pay in all circumstances
