First Steps to Solvency

As as a retired teacher (Infants) we always had a saying at home and in school ‘Old enough to play, old enough to pack away’.I was also amazed when the children would rush out of school to their parent, drop their book bag etc. on the floor and walk off. Said parent would then retrieve it and carry it all the way home!
My youngest tried it once, in the rain, he soon shot back and picked it up when he realised Mum was going to leave it on the wet pavement. Never tried it again. Early lesson in taking responsibility for your belongings.5 -
I get paying the BTL loan back.
I don't get the 2 year delay when it could be the best time to pick a bargain in recent times for those with ready cash.

I don't think your son is too young to learn to speak Greek. Not complicated conversation, but the basic social stuff, like hello, how are you, nice to meet you sort of stuff. The younger they learn the better. If he has the basics then you may find that when you next go to Greece he will come back fairly fluent. A second language is a definite asset too!

Know why I usually don’t bother when wife takes son somewhere with in-laws. Today was pumpkin picking absolute waste of money, boring and car is now filthy. Steward directed FIL into a space on grass but not very muddy and then directed me to park at the back of a really muddy field no reasoning other than probably envy – there were spaces near where FIL was parked. Tried parking in a reasonable place where the car wouldn’t have got filthy but at this place you aren’t allowed to complain and have to park where you’re told haha. Would have drove off tbh any other day. Completely soured my day then was forced to walk round a field with smug FIL who insisted on paying just to humiliate me. Son enjoyed it tbf but I won’t be going again.
@warby68 Remortgage on res home would give me a decent capital injection. Two years before I can do it so will definitely keep the cogs whirring in the meantime. May be in a position to loan £50k from other business end of tax year which will help get more property.
I probably do chase highs far too much; if it were drugs I was into I’d have a very serious problem lol. Bit more measured will definitely be better going forward for me – less stress too hopefully.
Finding stuff to do with son – laziness yes. He likes being active and its just easier to walk dog tbf rather than getting toys out etc. Wife plays with his toys with him, I usually cba with it, bad I know.
@curtains174 honestly son likes the paper more than anything and treasure hunt around house. Total waste of money a lot of presents my wife buys but she doesn’t see it that way.
@ladyholly tbh I agree with that. I don’t really want to be the bad guy again haha but wife runs after him like he’s a little prince lol.
@Grumpelstiltskin I know it’s a real shame not surprised in NG7 though lol – it has been cleaned off now.
@mamamu haha he’s had the imaginary friend stage too.
No I don’t want him to struggle with his mindset – don’t think he will tbf he’s a really kind boy not like me at all lol.
@TheAble I’m willing to take the risks to grow the portfolio. If I paid down the loans with the aim being to remove the PGs now I couldn’t grow the portfolio. If I use everything spare to buy more property I can grow the portfolio and worry about getting the LTVs down later. Catch 22 - grow or remove PGs. I’m going with grow first, pay later.
@amanda_p My wife just loves him very much not a lot I can do lol. Personally I would tell him to put the stuff away but she won’t. Her reasoning is he gets one childhood.
@getmore4less If I could do it now I would. I’ve spoken to mortgage broker he thinks I’ve no chance borrowing more against the res home right now mainly due to the cards / cars, corona payment hol and BS affordability requirements on res mortgages. Only solution I can potentially think of to get money out of res home is Ltd buying the res home and me paying market rent to the Ltd - can’t see lenders loving that one either lol and there’d also be SDLT payable / CGT implications too probably lots of other issues as well I’ve not even thought of so not workable I don’t think?!
@badmemory my dad teaches him the odd word- he always remembers. Something I should look into as he enjoys it and we could do it together. Thanks.

Goals W/C 12th Oct
1. Spend less than £50 entertainment probably not going to be hard this week. Done - only £25 spent.
2. £10 groceries spend (have everything we need so should not be spending anymore than a few quid on milk or loaf of bread). £5.40 total / £0 today
3. Check and update the Yolt app daily. Check
4. Structured work days - 9am starts 5.45pm finishes, emails off in evening. Lunch with wife. Eat dinner with family rather than wife cooking twice. N/A
5. Train with wife 4x this week. Going to regret this I know haha. She’s already decided what we’re doing so no chance of backing out now. Day 4 smashed it.
6. Activity with son everyday - probably going to be dog walk not going to be allowed to do much else... Another family day but not been amazing haha FIL taking the p***.1 -
But you have a 4x4 and can park in the muddy places and not be stuck unlike a rear drive saloon. Lucky you.
Count this blessings.
But I don't get the pumpkin picking thing for consumers. For the pumpkin sellers it's a dream come true.
You can wash the car with your son tomorrow. Time together, money saving, bonding. It's all good.3 -
He might enjoy his childhood but get ready for a spoilt teenager. Not a prospect I would relish. Perhaps being the bad guy now might be a better option than having a spoilt stroppy teenager.2

@PassElephant the car might be capable but not spent £110k for it to get filthy for no good reason. Knew I was going to have to park in a field so didn’t take BMW for that reason too lol.
Yep agreed re pumpkins- waste of money. Did have a nice lunch there tbf.
Told wife she needs to wash car tomorrow was hoping she’d do it this afternoon but no.
@ladyholly not thought about it like that tbf.1 -
I remember some very disconcerted undergraduates (or very unpopular with housemates) when needing to do their own housework was encountered for the first time.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.
