Christmas is not a retail celebration although many try to make it so. It is about spending time with friends and family, relaxing and chilling and enjoying some laughs with a few games, nice food and drink and of course for those who celebrate the religious aspect of it. Most of us when we get to your PIL age are not interested in presents as such so believe them when they say they just want nice photos.
I like the MGs so if I was to have a fun car I would have that. Not a lot of room in those for child seats though.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Day 178
Spent £65 on AF dinner as we split the bill. Went out with MG friends did offer to pay but they know I’m hard up so insisted we split the bill lol. No chance the MG was coming out in this weather though. Will only probably see them once more before Christmas. We have ordered, paid and just waiting for their gift turning up with rest of Christmas F&M order; they like foodie type gifts so that works well. Still not really coming around to the festivities tbh I’m struggling with it for reasons mentioned. We were invited to a few events but declined - I’m glad we have but there’s that little voice saying I’ve turned into a boring old !!!!!!. Conflict for me of avoiding situations I don’t want to be anywhere near and tbh not really even wanting to go but I suppose some feeling of obligation / should go etc. Idk hard to describe.
@RelievedSheff My parents like photos too and I don’t even send them pictures of me if I can help it.
@Sun_Addict / @RelievedSheff mentioned AF cocktails to wife and she likes the idea made it her task this week to come up with some recipes lol so thanks.
@enthusiasticsaver I am going to try to remember that thank you. We do alright for food lol. Was actually thinking about taking my son to church I know that sounds a bit odd with what I’ve said on here about not believing in god. I still don’t think I do but this probably even stranger as I’m not sure I have any faith but I have been praying each night and idk finding some sort of strength from it and churches are special places at Christmas anyway. Perhaps I shouldn’t be stepping foot in a church when I’m not sure I have any faith in the first place but idk just something I’ve been thinking about a fair bit recently.
There’s just enough room for my son in the back and my Mrs has also sat in the back but not for long lol. No room for baby seats or two of them though you could always have one as a fun car just you and not for grandchildren.2 -
Delurking to say have a look to see if any local churches are doing a Christingle Service - perfect for kids! Or just a Carol service……

@MatyMoo thank you for your suggestion just found the church in town is doing a few events including a christingle and carol service and next week a Christmas tree festival son would love seeing a load of Christmas trees lol; they seem heavily invested in music and also they’re doing Vivaldi Four Seasons at Christmas concert, my Mrs would absolutely love that. Thanks mate.2

@alt80 churches don't expect you to know exactly where you stand on religious questions before you go in. Lots of regular attenders whizz up and down the scale and it's considered normal. Hope you have fun. Love Humdinger x2

@Humdinger1 thank you. I went to fairly strict CofE schools and as a kid God seemed nothing but a taker of fun and fearsome to the extreme. Idk if anyone else has this kind of view but looking at this recently as an adult I have started to wonder if the bible is to be understood in an allegorical way. Lot of these type of thoughts come from my recovery tbh can’t say I thought much about God prior to the last six months and even if I did it would have been to protest I don’t believe in God. Anyhow bit too deep for a Monday morning ha whilst avoiding heading out to middle of !!!!!! nowhere Derbyshire in this weather.2

@alt80 yes deffo!1

Actually glad to have been dragged out to Derbyshire today. Been a great drive into the countryside and saw three wild deer crossing the road in the snow my son would have loved to see them but no chance to take a picture unfortunately. Def a Range Rover day though not sure I’d trust EQC in this ice lol. Bit of a strange appreciation for free things and trying to look at the world in a different way was definitely rewarded with that today.4

A winters drive into the countryside sounds awesome to me. No snow down here so an hour in soft play with youngest DGD today and a cafe trip for us. I am not sure where I stand on believing in God either but have done Christmas service. I expect we will take our granddaughters when they are a bit older. The Christmas trees would be nice to see.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. I always go to Winter Wonderland on Xmas eve and book the last ice skate of the evening rather than be sat at home with an over excited child. We go on a few of the fairground rides and get some hot festive food and hot chocolate. It started about 6 years ago with 4 of us going and this year there’s 22 of us as more family/friends join us every year.MFW 2022 #71 £4400/£44002
