I think your MG mate could be good for you

Is the one person away from family and work you can trust to go out with(once you trust yourself)

You have a shared interest in cars and could involve your son and/or wife without risks on days out doing an MG run.

The offer is store and clean my car(you should get good with the new practice) and you can  use it.

Sound like a fair swop rather than charity.

I thought 2.5k was incredibly generous considering it came from tax payers’ money / extra borrowing and will all need to be paid back one day! I do get where you’re coming from with commitments hence wanting to have a few months rainy day money in the bank just in case.

Worried for you about talk of tripping you off - last time was the barbecue when I thought you’d survived by walking away but then found you hadn’t 😟 So hoping you get through this tricky 10 day demons phase this time. Is all the stuff from last time 100% gone gone or does any still need flushing?

It’s a win win for your friends car, he doesn’t have to pay garage fees and you’d look after it.

Day 11 through absolutely whacked ready for bed tbh lol. Was going to spend an hour on the work but just thinking I'll go to bed with wife and put my audio book on. Probably need to think about scheduling in an extra hour tomorrow somewhere for the work though. Today struggled a bit with concentration. Know it comes and goes ups and downs etc. Spent a bit of time this evening concentrating on relaxation stuff I did at the rehab and things I still do for therapy. Tbh I'm more or less working part time around the therapy still.

Cooking went down ok tbh I've done better wife helped me a bit. Son was too tired and still bad with the hay fever not as bad as the other day though but he was whacked from school. Let me read to him again. Probably sounds freaky but sometimes I watch him sleep for a bit. Did light the candles etc but light still when we ate thought that counts eh? Wife picked some classical orchestral music idk what but it was nice had a bit of a dance lol. Not gonna lie we've both had a drink, just a glass of wine each with meal and a single malt to finish. It's been an amazing few hours tbh can't believe it's a Monday night def managed to destress and unwind a bit over the past few hours.

    @getmore4less / @dawnybabes I am tempted tbh.

He's probably the only decent mate I've got tbh. Only one wife will come to a car event with as well lol and he's a bit like an uncle to my son. I should make the effort really main reason I'm avoiding is he is aware of my current financial standing.

@stymied yeah catch me on a different day I'll be moaning about tax payers money being spent on it ha. It's one of my drivers to sort my retained out asap tbh. I've always been in a somewhat precarious position financially and I'm not sure I want that to carry on forever. One one hand I don't know anything else, on the other I don't really want to carry on living the way I have been. I think having a lot of commitments hasn't really helped my stress levels. Suppose I want a bit of security too in a way; just don't see why I should pay unnecessary tax to get it into my bank account.

Yeah I've been struggling a bit today but I 100%, definitely don't have any of it. Don't even have access to the money to buy it. Quite glad that's the case. I know by now staying away from it for good is not going to be easy for me, will be worth it though.

Less financial commitments will mean less stress. I am glad you have seen that and for your health and your family living a different sort of life will mean less pressure on you. Living on a knife edge financially is something many of us do when we are young but usually as you get older most of us crave security especially when children and families are involved.

Your wife is doing a great job helping you keep on track. I think you need as many good people in your life as you can get so your MG mate sounds like a real friend who has offered you the use of his car in exchange for you storing it. It could be a solution to your current wish to still have a fun car to drive whilst not committing huge sums of money to it. Who cares if he is aware that financially things are tough at the moment. If your wife and son like him too then so much the better.

I think you need to continue putting as much time and energy towards your recovery therapy as you are your work. In time it will get easier but these are still early days. Glad that the no access to money is working for now. It will be worth it in the end as you could not keep going as you were.

If your son is 6 or over he can have non drowsy antihistamine tablets from the chemist. So much easier than forcing the vile sleep inducing piriton liquid into him. Mine was easily able to swallow the very small tablets at that age.

Day 12 trying to make the most of the weather before the rain sets in - my phone reckons it's raining on and off for a week from Thursday. Been looking at the adventure park for the weekend was thinking about maybe doing a picnic but weather could be dodgy just get something in the cafe. Reminder went off this morning to look at plans for York trip too.

@enthusiasticsaver yeah I do want to get to a point I've cut some of the commitments down. !!!!!! ridiculous how much I owe to Land Rover really that's the big one I'd like a bit of time off from when it's clear. Don't really want to be on the credit cards constantly either in the future. No problem with using 0% where needed/ planned but I've had problems with the way I've used credit cards for years on years. It's odd having access to £20 really made me think fml first time I went out felt really !!!!!! poor but the irony is it stops me spending so in reality I'm better for it. Long term it's a little ridiculous to not be able to fill my petrol tank or do much at all really but ok for now put a reminder to review at the start on son's summer hols. Realistically I need to get to a position I can trust myself with a bit more than £20 but I'm not sure I need what has been 8 think it was 9 at one point credit cards and my current account debit card all on my person/ phone etc. That wasn't counting the company cards. Take a step back and think fml.

The MG I'm more tempted by as time passes suppose it's just my own embarrassment re him knowing about the fact I owe money to everyone always liked to look successful even if I'm not haha.

@CRANKY40 thank you wife took him to NHS gp got it all for free haha.

I think your overthinking the money and MG mate.

You have owed money to everyone for ever and and always(probably) since you have known him, he has known that.

The change is you are paying some of that back now and I think he is glad you have turned that corner.

Occasionally I get ideas on the finance side to do silly calculation that just waste a bit of time.
    picking up on this

ridiculous how much I owe to Land Rover

I wonder what the numbers would look like if you did the life time of payments to Land Rover(going back to the first one) and your own house, which would win?
Could also crunch the running costs of both as well.

Rich people did not get rich(and stay rich) by spending money.

@getmore4less I have owed money to everyone forever never a truer statement ha fml bad really but is what it is. It’s a strange thought one day might not owe money to everyone, just a few lol can’t imagine being truly debt free ha. Idk been in debt so long in a way feels more uncertain the idea of not being in massive debt. I’ve not wanted other people to know I owe money though tbf you’re right they probably did always know. I’ve always put odd comments down to jealously haha but yeah people probably laughing thinking what a !!!!!! who knows ha. Wife keeps saying I should get to the point of no pgs on portfolio before I buy more to keep, just stick with flip projects for a bit unless the figures do work out really good to keep and worth it iyswim. It’s weird in a way I think she’s right but in another way idk I’m used to being on the hook just think might as well have more units just stick with the pgs.

Ill have to do that calc not now need to do some work ha fml not sure about Land Rover alone but def paid more in cars over the years at a guess. Tbh the equity I have in my home has mainly come from the uplift in value of this house and previous flips I’ve lived in rather than capital repayment. For years I was on the i/o only not with this one because my wife said that was not happening ha would be much smaller payment if it wasn’t on the repayment.
