  • I'm not seeing any low prices in Agile tomorrow, and as I'm having difficulty interpreting those graphs could you add an explanatory note? :-)

The green lines at the top show the pricing during the day. Earlier today the wholesale price was minus £60/MWh. It is the day ahead pricing that determines the Agile pricing I believe and this was £2.95/MWh. My comment was suggesting that after a pretty dire winter for Agile customers we may be getting nearer to the possibility of negative rates again. Link now added so you can move the cursor around to see how prices change.

  • I'll have a play in the morning, thanks.
  • I really like the idea of Agile but settled for Go when my Octopus smart meter was installed in November due mainly to being a dunce as far as Linux usage for Octolux was concerned  (I even bought a Pi) ;)   As a relatively low consumer where almost 67% of last years consumption was covered from my solar and a lot of this winter so far covered by charging at the 5p Go rate.I really cannot see a major advantage in my specific case.
    3.995kWP SSW facing. Commissioned 7 July 2011. 24 degree pitch (£3.36 /W).
    17 Yingli 235 panels
    Sunnyboy 4000TL inverter
    Sunny Webox
Solar Immersion installed May 2013, after two Solar Immersion lasting just over the guarantee period replaced with Solic 200... no problems since.

If anything, I'm pretty sure you'd be worse off on Agile at the moment anyway Mick.
The average Agile prices have been well above 5p lately.

    "Hi Michael,
Thanks so much for being an Octopus Energy smart tariff customer.
I'd really appreciate your views on smart tariffs. They will help us focus our efforts on making energy smarter, greener and cheaper through technology.
I've put together a short survey that should only take a couple of minutes to complete.
As a little thank you, complete the survey before 11:59pm on Saturday February 20 and I'll automatically credit your account with the average electricity cost of all survey participants for Sunday, February 21 – that ought to be a couple of extra pounds towards your energy costs.
Credits will be added to your account by the end of March."

I think you are right this is a typical day for me....  If I could get on Go Faster and bring the charge period forward to say 10 pm I would do even better...Anyway the sun is beginning to chip in again so it will be 8 months before I have to worry about my electricity costs.  I have installed AC to burn some of my excess solar in summer so will have to keep an eye on that ;)

I got this a couple of days ago, filled it in then replied to the email asking about go faster.

Go faster offers 3 hours at 4.5p, 4 hours at 5p as normal, or 5 hours at 5.5p.... and the best part, the start times can be selected from 8:30pm to I think 3:30am, note that is START times.

Given the thing I can't cover with batteries is the electric showers which tend to run in the evening,  an 8:30pm to 11:30pm tariff will be ideal for me, plus with the batteries running all night I'm less likely to go to export on an unexpectedly bright day as has happened twice this week, because the batteries will be more depleted.

As Coastalwatch said a couple of days ago, its a trial and spaces are limited, and I won't find out for a week if I can get my requested time and duration,  but crossing fingers here. 🤞

Edit, here is the blurb from the email******

We’re running a small scale upgrade to Octopus Go - the tariff for EV drivers and we'd like to invite you to take part (it's invitation only as it's in the early stages).

We'd like to use Go to spread the load on the grid - so we'd like to offer you the chance to choose your preferred cheap period rather than the existing 00:30-4:30am slot.

    The choices are:

    Option 1. Take a 3-hour Go period at 4.5p/kWh and select a start time of 20.30, 21.30, 22.30, 23.30, 00.30, 01.30, 02.30 or 03.30
    Option 2. Take a 4-hour Go period at 5.0p/kWh and select a start time of 20.30, 21.30, 22.30, 23.30, 00.30, 01.30 or 02.30
    Option 3. Take a 5-hour Go period at 5.5p/kWh and select a start time of 20.30, 21.30, 22.30, 23.30, 00.30 or 01.30

There’s a limit to the number of slots for each period - if you miss out on your preferred one we’ll give you the next one available.*****
