Glad I left the playground some time ago !
There can't be many people still sticking it out at these prices ??
It was a good deal cheaper last winter.

To say thanks, we’re offering Octopus customers with an eligible smart meter 4 hours free 100% renewable electricity to cook your turkey on Christmas Day, or just to celebrate — in whatever way you see fit.
The 4 hours are from 08:00 - 12:00 on Christmas Day.
You should receive a personal email with a link to accept if you have "Accept Offers" turned on in your Account Details.
Just checked my bill for December and we've been charged for those 4 hours on xmas day even though we registered for the free period. 😣
Not going to bother chasing them as it's only about 40p but I'm glad I didn't charge the car and house batteries !
Anyone else had their bill and noticed this ?

I complained about this - they say they are calculating this and we should see the credit in the next bill. i.e. Jan's bill in Feb.

I haven't had a bill yet but wouldn't have expected to see any sign of a 'refund' yet as all they' ever said was that it would be credited to accounts by end of January and glancing at my calendar I note that's still two weeks away.

In my case,  the refund should be approx £4.50  (I charged car whilst cooking Xmas dinner) but it's not going to make a h'aporth of difference to actual payments :  my direct debit is fixed so that amount taken at end of Jan will be exactly the same as those from Nov & Dec or due in Feb and unless we get several weeks at or near 35ppu I'll still be in credit by Easter.

And to comment on main part of thread,  a couple of weeks electricity at present prices isn't going to upset things very much.  My  account balance is currently well in surplus thanks to having fixed DD level at roughly same as it was for previous supplier and although I've recently reduced it, I don't expect to need to increase it again in near future.

Thanks to 'lockdown' we're using car very little at the moment so it probably won't need to be charged for another week or so and we've cut back on any major appliance usage for a few days as well.

It did say in the T&C's for the offer that the credit would be applied at the end of January.

It fires up the immersion using a solid state relay when the battery gets above 80% and switches off if it gets to 70% so basically uses the battery like a buffer. Proportional control isn't really possible with just a relay.
It gets the battery soc from a serial cable connected directly to the pylontechs.

The Pi Lux controller gets a forecast of our pv yeild for the following day from solecast.com and works out how much to grid charge overnight during the Go period.
It's not doing much at this time of year but will probably start cutting back our grid charging from next month on the better days.
