It is a fair point though, if the Government are bringing in these kind of restrictions there really should be a "pot" available for people who are going to be financially suffering to stick to them. And they then wonder why people ignore the rules.

But such a "pot" will never happen, so in the meantime the OP just needs to keep things quiet and crack on as they have been doing.

Are you certain of the detail? The 6 person rule has just been announced in Wales. Here, children under 11 are exempt. It might be worth checking the guidance if you are in England or Scotland

Working in a school you have a professional responsibility to follow the rules
What happened to the teachers being worried about going back to work and being safe - now we know why - they cant follow the rules themselves, it wasnt the kids they were worried about, it was themselevs.
You will think I'm being unfair and harsh but having continued to work in a hospital throughout, I have seem many colleagues with much trickier arrangements to make, but they  managed without breaking the rules - which now happens to be law - we would probably get at least disciplined for bringing that type of risk into the workplace
Maybe it would help the OP if you could give any examples of what solutions your colleagues in trickier situations came up with. It might give some ideas that he hasn't considered.

In England all children are included in the 6...but would not be surprised if it changes

there's dozens of possible solutions, but not knowing the OPs exact circumstances it's pointless making any suggestions
It seems people currently have a melt down and are quick to say "I can't"
what they mean is "I can't do what I've always done"
there's usually a solution if you actually look for one, but you have to look
no ones saying it will be easy or free or cheap
  • Those who are saying register as a childminder, it really isn't that easy! It takes weeks if not months, there's courses to do, enhanced DBS, payments to registers etc. OP, I would carry on as you are. If it's acceptable for kids to be back at school with their teachers, it's acceptable to do what you're doing.
  • At school there should be social distancing measures in place - I really doubt they are observed at the grandparents
Not sure if the guidance includes children but if not - then It’s NOT acceptable, it’s illegal
Working in education, you need to be setting an example to the kids, not showing them that it’s ok to break the law when it suits or is difficult
