  • 👋 @remote_control yes there's a few of us around with bigger mortgages. Great work on getting the extension done at 0%, we also have a car loan but the rate is so low I'm not fussed about getting it paid early. Focus for us is the mortgage as will give us more freedom later in life (hopefully!). Whereabouts are you based? Guessing in London / the SE as most of us with bigger mortgages are!
Current mortgage (1 Jun 2022): £289,501 - originally £351,999 got to love London sized mortgages!
    OP Goal 2022 = 3.75% in OPs: £6,975 / £13,200
Emergency Fund Target: 3 months saved ✅

  • Yes we are on the outskirts of London. We borrowed on the mort for the extension but paid for as much as we could on 0% to save interest and because I knew I would want to pay it off sooner. I'm tempted to spend on a 0% card when this is paid off and then pay that money towards the mortgage. (That might be what stoozing is). But equally interest rates are so low at the moment I'm not sure I can be bothered.
It's surprised me that yours was the only large mortgage I could find when I was looking through diaries last night.
We would also like to see more of the world, so I want the financial freedom. I don't really have any compulsion to retire early but I'm sure this may change in 30 years time!
  • Great weekend with rugby and a nice walk yesterday in the sunshine. Felt really relaxed at the weekend in a way I haven't in a long while so think the stress ofnthe old job had gotten to me more than I thought.

Got more decorating planned this week and need to finish some bits fully (my Dad always says, finish 1 DIY job fully before you start the next one....and i have broken this golden rule lol). So bit of sorting to do but shiukd be a nice chilled week, just a shame I can't meet anyone for coffee / brunch etc :-( but hopefully that is on its way soon!).

  • Loving having a week off, been able to spend the day decorating and now cooked a lovely dinner of curried chicken thighs, new potatoes and roasted veggies. Don't have time for intricate dinners normally its simple meals during the week 😆

  • 2 loads of washing done, a decent run this morning, dinner is already prepared and I've done the second coat of paint.......I could get used to this no working malarkey 😆 Shame no one will pay me unless I work!!!

Payday is early next week, final pay check and should include pay for a decent number of days of unused annual leave (once I had decided to start looking for a new job i didn't take any leave knowing they would have to pay it out!). So will put half the extra into mortgage OPs and half into the general savings pot. General savings pot has no specified purpose but might be to do the kitchen / boiler / white goods (previous owner generously left us the white goods for free as they didn't want them for their new house and worked well for us as we had no money to buy new when we moved in lol but means we have no idea how old they are and they could die!).

Loving the sunshine, will get out for a walk later too 😀

  • Decorating finished and just in time for the end of my week off! Looks great (even if I do say so myself haha!), certainly much brighter and happier room now. Still got the hallway / kitchen / bathroom / a bedroom and the garden to do lol but need to pause and save some money again for the next job. Must say though, used cheap wilkos own brand paint and wallpaper in this room (normally use decent more expensive stuff from B&Q) but its come up really well, certainly no difference in quality that I have noticed.

Now ready for an evening of rugby, got a lovely bottle of French white wine to go with it (sorry to the Scottish and Welsh!) and a relaxing weekend before starting the new job next week :-)
