I will send a follow-up letter with proof of ID and address right away, thanks for the reminder.MarkN88 said:As I mentioned previously too, if you didn’t submit proof of ID and address with the SAR you could be waiting longer than a month because they will write back to you asking for this. They have to make sure it’s you asking for the information and no one else.0 -
Thank you for this explanation. So through our IP address, we might have been linked to a fraudster? Yes of course, I can totally see why eBay do not want to reveal the crime, and quite rightly so if this helps the criminal. It's just very frustrating when you know for a fact you have done no wrong and are desperate to find out what you're accused of... And being completely unable to convince eBay of your innocence is hard too.ballisticbrian said:So in a nutshell, an actual device contains a uniquely identifiable address. If a fraudster used a different eBay account to other eBay accounts you are aware of on a borrowed the device from your children, that device is then logged as being linked to the fraudster.
You can see in this circumstance in particular why the staff at eBay aren't allowed to discuss it with you as it just provides a checklist to any potential fraudster.0 -
Yes, but you would never normally reveal your MAC outside of your home network. And MACs can easily be spoofed (e.g. using SMAC) so can't reliably be used for device authentication.ballisticbrian said:Just to add that most devices have a "burned in address", or MAC address which can identify a particular machine, phone, netbook, whatever.

So this is where we are now, 12 days after the completely out-of-the-blue receipt of our MC113 permanent suspension (with no chance of appeal):
We are now 100% certain we did nothing wrong whatsoever - not even slightly wrong.
The trigger MIGHT have been caused by our house guests, but they are as baffled as we are.
In all honesty this remains a total mystery to us. Hopefully the SAR result will show something, though how much eBay will be willing to reveal is yet to be seen...
I would be very interested to hear if anyone else has had a similar experiece.0 -
ebay HAVE to reviel ALL info gels on you , inc the info that caused you to ne banned
they will be a fine for faulure to do so but knowing ebay they will prob put 2 fingers in the air1 -
OK - so do you mean you reckon they WILL reveal the cause? Not sure how we'd know if they were holding something back ..twhitehousescat said:ebay HAVE to reviel ALL info gels on you , inc the info that caused you to ne banned

They will have to provide any information that they hold relating to you as a living individual. That does not necessarily, however, mean that they will reveal why that particular information caused you to be banned. You may just receive a very long list showing every time that you logged on or off eBay, which will leave you none the wiser.dysynni said:OK - so do you mean you reckon they WILL reveal the cause? (And there are also exemptions under data protection legislation where crime detection/prevention are concerned).

Righto, so that doesn't fill me with optimism... but thanks for your comment. So I guess if they have some sort of 'criminal activity' recorded (though for the life of me I can't imagine what that could possibly be), they won't reveal that to me.GabbaGabbaHey said:

EBay say "We're not comfortable with your selling practices or business model". This is so strange as we don't have a 'business model'; and we have hardly ever sold anything. All we do is buy the odd inexpensive item, usually second-hand, and have always abided meticulously by the rules of good practice. It really feels like they have confused us with someone else.0

Were there perhaps some fees for selling something that had gone unpaid for some time? This article is aimed at the US marketplace but a lot of the possible suspension reason will be the same for UK - https://www.3dsellers.com/blog/why-ebay-suspended-your-account-and-how-to-fix-it1
