If eBay are banning people purely on the basis of having once used the same IP address as a miscreant, that's an absolute load of bull.

Well that's how it looks at the moment. Not only ourselves but all our adult children (only one of whom lives with us) are also currently banned.  When I sent an email to query this yesterday, I received only the same stock response, saying their decision is final, and they are not comfortable with our selling practices or business model. Other similar emails have referred blandly to our activities putting eBay and its community at risk. They refuse to address any of my questions.
  • SAR fir the full info ,nothing hidden or missing
  • In your position I would try someone like Katie Morley at the Telegraph. She investigates a variety of cases and is able to get responses from ebay. Ebay are like Amazon, they simply refuse to engage with people in these instances.
  • Thank you for this. I have just submitted a subject access request to the address kindly provided above, and will see what happens there. When you know you are completely innocent and have been served the most severe punishment that eBay has at its disposal, it's impossible not to fight back. Katie Morley sounds an excellent person to contact. You're right - eBay absolutely refuses to engage.
  • Did you send proof of ID and address too?

Thanks - when I sent off the subject access request I gave our home address, email address and eBay account name, and said I was willing to provide proof of my identity should they require it.
I sent a detailed email to Katie Morley last night and said I would add the findings of the subject access request when I receive them.
  • All companies I have dealt with in relation to a SAR have asked for proof of ID and some have asked for proof of address. So I’m certain they will want it.

I can't imagine that it's as simple as IP address. Most people's IP addresses change when they disconnect/reconnect to their ISP (unless they have requested a static IP address), and it would not be at all unusual for a user to access eBay from a number of different IP addresses (home, work, hotels, friends' houses, etc) over time.
