ELAL’s financial woes were well publicised this summer. The airline was fighting to stay alive and avoid bankruptcy.  I believe the Israeli Government was pumping money into them at a great rate and looking to re nationalise the airline. At one time they were simply not paying out refunds although I think this has been reversed and refund money gradually paid, but with a massive backlog on processing.

I can understand your frustration but I very much doubt MyTrips will refund you until ELAL have refunded them.  Their comment about “your refund is still pending with the airline” may well be true.

Thanks all for useful information. But no-one has answered my original question: what has happened to MyTrip's fortnightly email updates?
  • My son has been waiting for a refund from Mytrip since April. He has continued to receive twice monthly emails and finally the status changed from pending to in progress last week BUT still no sign of the refund. His flights were with Norwegian air
  • I'm also awaiting a MyTrip refund for flights with SAS that were cancelled in October.  I'm getting the email every two weeks but progress hasn't changed.  Has anyone received their refund?  I have called MyTrip and was told they are dependant on the airline processing the refund and they can't do anything to speed up the process.  Very frustraiting.

If you want to confirm where the holdup is you could confirm with SAS that the refund has been requested and whether they have issued it.

I think sadly you may not receive your refund.  Norwegian have entered bankruptcy protection in several locations and just announced a restructure plan laying off more staff and shutting down long haul flying.  The "old" Norwegian has gone.

Mytrip won't refund you unless they get the money from Norwegian - and I have to say that's very unlikely.
  • I’m also waiting for a refund from mytrip, for flights that were cancelled in March 2020. I eventually got the money from my bank via a Visa chargeback, only for mytrip to dispute it and claw the money back! I’m now back to emailing mytrip to try to pursue a refund directly again, but I’m not hopeful of seeing my money without taking legal action.

How did they successfully dispute it if you’re due a refund?
Was your flight definitely cancelled, or could you just not board but it left anyway?

Reasons given were that I didn’t provide evidence and didn’t submit the claim within the timeframe, both of which are untrue and my bank agrees.

Yes, both flights were cancelled with no alternatives provided. I didn’t ask to cancel my booking at any point.
