It will be a no spends day today. Number 7 of February.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be from stores. Breakfast was crumpets, we have both taken our packed lunches to work and dinner tonight is stuffed chicken with chips and vegetables.
No jobs to do tonight. It will be a night of relaxing in front of the TV with a few beers.3 -
Sounds like a perfect evening - enjoy 👍January spends - £587.583

Sounds like a nice evening @RelievedSheff not out in the van this weekend?Don’t blame you getting the van filled up. Super unleaded last time we filled the Range Rover was over £1.70/l. Could hardly believe it tbh.2

We are out in it this weekend but we are literally going 15 minutes up the road. It is a friends birthday party tomorrow evening at a pub in one of the villages and we are taking the van and staying in the car park rather then trying to get a taxi home.alt80 said:Sounds like a nice evening @RelievedSheff not out in the van this weekend?Don’t blame you getting the van filled up. The dog is off to the dog sitters for the evening so he will be in a bad mood when we pick him up again on Sunday!
Need to get the van cleaned up on Sunday when we get back. It is going back to the dealers on Tuesday morning for some warranty work carrying out. Not sure how long they will have it for so we have not got anything planned for the first couple of weekends in March with it.1 -
It will be a spendy day today.
We are heading to the pub for breakfast this morning. They usually have some good offers on and their breakfast is really good value anyway.
We also need to go to the farm shop for some fruit and vegetables and to the shops for a few bits and pieces.
After dinner we will drop the dog off at the dog sitters. After an hour with them comparing our new vans we will head to the pub where the party is tonight. It will seem strange without Syd on the van tonight.
Looking forward to the party though. Not seen everyone together for a long time now. It will be good to have a catch up.2 -
Sorry I didn't reply to this the other day.joedenise said:It really depends on what sort of things you like to do and where you want to be. Our preference is for aires in Normandy and Brittany as we like coastal places. We also like the Loire Valley and tend to just meander along the river driving for a while and then using the sat nav to find a nearby Aire so we certainly don't plan anything!
If the weather is nice Champagne is really nice but most of the aires are on grass and we don't tend to park on grass when it's wet as our van is 4.5 tonne and tag axle so would churn it up.
Quite honestly we just like being near the water so tend to follow the coast or along one of the rivers. I don't know how much driving you want to do between stops but we rarely do more than about an hour or so; maximum 2.5 hours.
If you are wine drinkers then a lot of the vineyards let you stay overnight but expect you to buy a bottle or two! We've bought some lovely wines but they are definitely not the cheap stuff you can buy in the SM! I think the cheapest we bought was £11 a bottle and that was about 6 or 7 years ago!
The only place I would recommend if you haven't been before is the Bayeaux Tapestry. You used to be able to park up and stay overnight right in the centre of town about a 5 minute walk away but it's been a few years since we went there and I think they've stopped the parking right in town but not certain. You can pay a small charge to get head phones in English so that you can understand what the different parts of the tapestry represent.
The only thing we plan is the date we are leaving and the date we are returning!
We like waterside locations, guess that is a throwback to spending so much time on the water in the past.
We love walking and looking at different types of architecture and building forms. Mostly we need dog friendly places.1 -
In which case you probably want to either stick to the coast or choose a river to go along. There are plenty of aires as long as you avoid the Med coast as they are few and far apart and also much more expensive!2

Sheff Not buildings but this is I think fantastic.

When you see that you wonder what all the fuss is about at Stonehenge. If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.2 -

There are a couple of places in Brittany on the river where we hired the boat that we want to go again. Might see more of them if we arrive by van. Messac and Josselin.joedenise said:In which case you probably want to either stick to the coast or choose a river to go along. I think we will aim to do a mixture of coastal and rivers through.1
