It will be a no spends day today.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be from stores. Breakfast was toast, we have both taken our packed lunches to work and dinner tonight is jerk pork chops with chips, onion rings, corn on the cob and homemade mustard coleslaw.

    Today's jobs include:
    • vacuuming the house
    • dusting the house
    • load of washing
    • making tomorrow night's shepherds pie
    • walking the dog x 2
  • If you're considering selling your car I'd look at Evans Halshaw. They operate an online valuation service in the same way as WeBuyAnyCar but from my experience they are far better.
I sold an Insignia to them in 2016. They gave me £100 more than I was asking.
Also I'm currently looking at selling my Cayman GTS. Evans Halshaw are offering me £45000 for a 6 year old car... several thousand more than WeBuyAnyCar.

Thanks. We will look into that.

It won't quite be a no spends day today, we have to pay some site fees for the weekend. £12 per night for a couple of nights. But that will be the extent of the spending today.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be from stores. Breakfast was crumpets, we have both taken our packed lunches to work and dinner tonight is shepherd's pie with vegetables.

No jobs to do today. We will just get home, grab a quick shower and change of clothes and then we are off out in the van for the weekend. Not going far this weekend, just a half hour down the road to a nice little village we have visited plenty of times when we had the boat. Lots of nice walking for the dog in the area and a couple of nice village pubs. It should be a nice relaxing weekend for what will be our last outing in the van before we head up to Scotland in a few weeks.

    Sounds like a nice weekend.

The site fees all seem quite nominal and your spending seems to be a couple of pub trips/meals which, presumably, you would do from home at weekend anyway. Possibly fuel is the only significant 'extra' then?

Sorry about the car - bit of a spanner in the works after all your successes but at least it has enough value to make getting a replacement not too painful. With that level of spend needed, I'd go with changing it too.

If we were at home we would tend to have a drive out somewhere in the car anyway so fuel isn't a massive extra. The van does use more than the car per mile but the van tends to drive somewhere and then get parked up for the weekend whereas with the car we would tend to drive around more, so I don't think there will be much extra fuel spending really come the weekends. It is when we go away on holiday in it that the fuel adds up. It will be the biggest cost on the Scotland trip later this month.

We are going to wait until we come back from holiday to decide what we are going to do with the car. We can still use it for now.

Sounds like you've a nice weekend planned, have a good one.

Re car sounds like you've got enough equity for a deposit on something else equally you could get it fixed and it give you trouble free motoring for a while to come - can your OH do it iirc he's some kind of mechanic? Problem with keeping an older car running is the maintenance but doesn't really add up to be more than paying for a new car - by the time I got rid of my RRS it was coming up to ten years old and cost about £3-5k/a for maintenance. FFRR is £15k/a in payments whilst it's under warranty it definitely doesn't cost less to run a newer car. Tbf like for like had I gone for another equivalent Sport that would have worked out about £12k/a in payments but not that much better.

It should be a pretty chilled weekend this weekend, certainly nothing like as busy as last weekend!

We won't buy a brand new car if we decide to change the car. We usually get something about 18 months old that has already lost a load of value. Think we are leaning towards changing it at the moment. Not sure what with yet though.

Unfortunately the OH does body work rather than mechanical work.

Haha yeah Whitby on a bank hol weekend wasn’t your best pick if you were looking for a quiet one mate.

Be careful with the 18 month old bargains - alright if you’re buying cash but you’ll be clobbered for the high rates of interest financing it. New cars are always lower rates - used Range Rover is something !!!!!! stupid like 10% through the dealer. I prefer buying new tbh lower interest, know how it’s been cared for from day 1, full warranty etc get buying as 2nd owner can be cost efficient but work exploring both options when it’s being financed. Lease other option but don’t think that is cost effective for personal purchases.

We will arrange our own finance rather then using dealer finance.
